    I'mj primarily an N scaler, but my wife's uncle gave me his old HO stuff, an AHM GP9 with a handful of cars. Then I wanted some steam, so I got a trio of Mehano steamers, two Consolidations and a Mikado. Then I needed more cars and a couple of cabooses...then I found an old 4-4-0 like I had when I was a kid...but I can stop any time I want.
    Nice to see you getting the old stuff running again, anyone can buy new but it takes mad skillz to run the old stuff.

    Great video "Engineer Ron." With respect to O-27 and O gauge. You must look at the track as a "profile." Marx made O-33 radius track; Lionel did make O-42 radius track in a O-27 profile. Meaning the track sits slightly lower to "O" or affectionately called High Rail. I built an "O-27 layout a couple years ago using Marx O-33 radius track on a 4x8 and ran Lionel Post War Diesels with no problem. Lionel designed them to run on O-31 Radius curves. There are so many different dimensions of curves, and it can be confusing. The Maximum radius in the O-27 profile Lionel did make was O-54. In a second layout I built using "High Profile" track…. I utilized Pre-War O gauge American Flyer track which gave me O-42 radius curves. Why? I wanted my rail road to be entirely American Made, save on the limited space I had… and keep everything as vintage as possible. Different manufacturers like Atlas, Gar Graves, etc.…have their own unique spin on curves which can drive anyone nuts. Your Marx 666 are beast. They even made one in a side smoker configuration. You can still find them. I like the vintage HO stuff you acquired. I tip my hat to another amazing video. Good Luck with the repairs, and have a wonderful day. Thank you!

    The steam locomotives and the diesel locomotives both have the same engines inside making them very easy to work on and parts are no problem. I love the 666 as it is a scale size of a small engine so it fits with the small 027 cars and lower profile track which looks more realistic. Marks also made 042 radius curved track I have almost a full set Mark's track also has more ties than Lionel and so it looks better. I got one box of marks from the train nobody wanted it so that guy sold me the whole box for 60 bucks. I have one layout for my wheel scale O gauge and then I have another layout with all the old 27 stuff on it so it doesn't look out of place.

    Cool finds. Make sure to check for a battery on the F3A and remove it until it is needed. This prevents leakage or swelling of the battery. This is a common issue on Lionel units with horns.
    As far as the Tyco/Mantua MU2 motors, one could drill out the rivets to access the motor area. The rivets would have to be replaced with a screw/washer/nut combo, but this is doable. I have a Tyco/Mantua F7A from the '60's in which someone has done this mod, and I want to take it apart to see what kind of fasteners were used.

    The 3424 Operating Brakeman car actually does not work by pushing a button. If you put that boxcar on a Lionel remote control track it will not operate. The complete setup includes the car, the telltales, and a set of track trips. The track trips have very narrow blades that make contact inside the blue slider shoes to activate the solenoid. The shoes on this car are unique and will not make contact with a standard Lionel remote control track.
    Another fun video and love watching your channel grow. I think I was one of your first couple hundred subscribers. I gotta ask if you record your own music for your videos? I recall seeing a couple of Strats hanging behind you in one of them.

    • @classicmodeltrains
      @classicmodeltrains  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Greg, Thank you for the information on the boxcar. In my David Doyle catalog of Lionel trains it does mention needing telltales and what not. Now it sounds like I need the very specific ones for this boxcar. DANG IT!! That means I payed too much..... Ahhh.... the mistakes of a newbie.
      Thank you for supporting my channel, and being one of the first few who believed in my channel. I am currently unable to actually "make" music. I have very beginner skills with guitar and bass, and limited intermediate skills on drums. On my subscription based musical songs I use, I have mixed them down to shorter versions. Using just the intro's, outro's, and some thick and juicy stuff in the middle.

    One time the guy who runs the local motorcycle shop came to my house with all these boxes of trains. Lionel from the 50 to the MPC of the seventies they were in the shed that flooded and unfortunately the best pieces for the bottom of the shed and were seized solid. Lots of Passenger cars and he wanted a big price for everything until I pointed out to him that the couplers were missing this was missing that was missing and the small parts that are missing are more expensive than the car they go on. We settled on a price and I took some. The passenger trains I just use six zip ties to zip tie them together because you don't really switch passenger trains. Had an old baker light observation car and after it ran around the layout a few times the lights started to work. 70 years old still working that's American made quality not like the made in China crap we have now. One guy had a box of later Lionel that he wanted a fortune for and I pointed out to him that they were very keep trained such to begin with and they had lots of damage from four storage or misuse I didn't know he was very disappointed he thought I was trying to buy them all for nothing until I had to point out to him all of the damage each of the pieces had very little of it was completely intact.
