4.44 ratio diff makes this a beast. its the only thing that makes this car so fast compared to other subarus with 210hp , 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds

in my opinion, i think the forester looks badass if you lower it a bit.
My one is black all over except the (gold) wheels but I'm thinking of getting them re-sprayed ...black :-)
Mine has been slightly modified: Toyosports downpipe, STI intercooler, bigger hood scoop and Pedder's suspension, plus the blowoff valve seems quite loud. On the outside it looks decidedly workaday and is even slightly tatty - couple of small dings and scratches, and more often than not, I have gardening equipment in the back including a mower. I love the fact that I can purr quietly around the neighbourhood, sneak past the cops without a second glance but when I decide to hit the gas .....oh boy :-)

My 04 Fxt is a STi killer. Just had the heads rebuilt for a full stg 3 upgrade. Looking to sell soon as I have passed my fiftith orbit around the sun and it's scares me.

Forester is on an Imprezza Chassis and Outback and Tribeca is on Legacy Chassis and those are the only two chassis Subaru made, until BRZ. My 05 weighed 200 lb lighter than STI and had much shorter 1st gear and 4.44 rear diff. Always beat STI in 1/8 mile with a big margin. Try to find how many super cars that can do 0-30 mph launch (Car&Driver) in 1.3 sec !!!

It needs STI seats. The stock ones are horrible, worse than the previous gen and not really suitable for sport use.
It's not a boat when it's just a wagon version of the Impreza chassis. It weighs less than 3200 lbs. The only significant differences from the Impreza chassis are:
* 1" subframe spacers to adjust suspension geometry for the higher ride height
* longer struts with longer springs that lift the chassis up high (technically set a little too high and will top out over uneven terrain)
Otherwise it's pretty much the Impreza. Pull the subframe spacers off and toss on WRX struts, you'll sit and drive exactly the same as the Impreza. Most things are direct swaps.
I can not recommend the Brembo swap enough for anyone wanting to improve brake feel. It's a lot nicer than the stock setup, bye bye pad knockback.
I totally agree Foresters are massively under appreciated. I've been racing them for about a decade in autocross and rallycross, and people are amazed and like to make jokes about it rolling over. Most have no idea it's a sedan chassis and the CG is actually quite low. Remember those subframe spacers? Well, they lower the engine and transmission (heavy parts) 1". When you put on lower suspension, the front CG is actually better than the Impreza, although the suspension geometry is worse (personally haven't found this to be a problem). Another bonus is there's a fun little thing Subaru does with the front end geometry on the Forester that they don't do with the Impreza which makes it handle better. It's a mod that would normally force an Impreza into a higher racing class, but you get it for free without penalty in the Forester.
For those curious about engines between the WRX and Forester of the time. The WRX had a 2.0L and the Forester a 2.5L. Both ran the same turbo and produced the same peak HP (limited by the flow of the turbo). The big difference was the Forester makes more torque, rated stock at only 18 ft-lbs (Forester ran 2psi lower boost). However, on equal grounds, same mods, the 2.5L engine will make a whopping 70 ft-lbs more running the exact same hardware and boost levels which is a big deal. Same power, gobs more torque, and the Forester XT runs the same semi closed block as the STI (aka handles high power well, although you do need to upgrade pistons/rods if you want to get serious).
this is what needed to be said. There are too many uneducated commenting on this bashing foresters and saying "why would you get this over a wrx".

Its an STI engine with a WRX turbo and intercooler. Subaru lied about the factory HP so people would buy the WRX. People that dyno it from factory and it put more then then 210 HP quoted at the wheels.

These things come stock with 4:1 diff ratios if I remember correctly, drag cars run 5:1 diff ratios so if you put in the right engine this thing will haul, drag cars also use automatic gearboxes so Hello I am sure this vehicle accelerates hard I was going to buy one and do it up but a Legacy B4 got to me first.

Because you don't know how to use it, not many people know how to use it properly. Once you figure it out it's a HUGE difference in performance and it's a lot more fun to drive.

I don't know about how they are in america but i owned that forester and i also owned on 04 WRX and currently own an 05 STI and the forester here in australia wasn't even close to feeling of a WRX and especially not an STI lol never nice forester though i still have a huge sweet spot for them :)

When I google the 2004 Forester XT specs, it says 210hp stock. Can someone explain something to me.
Jim Cross yes they are 210 Hp, they are in no way a WRX killer, but the 2004 XT did have the fastest 0-30 that year than any other car. Also it should be noted that this 2.5 is NOTHING like the 2.5 found in the Sti, this is like the 2.5 found in the Legacy's that are turbo charged
This is the same 2.5 found in the STi, with a TD04 instead of a VF39 turbo, a catted uppipe, and a very small top mount. The motor is the same as an 04 STi.
It does have the same exact turbo as the WRX.
Subaru is just an all around dudemagnet.
