    These two parts are criminally under-viewed. Such a fantastic interview it's perplexing this isn't way higher views

    The Kurds are very underappreciated. They are good guys who refuse to stop fighting the good fight. It is sad that Syria is often overlooked by Iraq, Afghanistan, and even Iran.

      @jeremiahjohnson1976 you're comment can only be described as brain-dead. The kurds are an ethnic minority they have no religious affiliation hell I'm pretty sure firat is Christian.

    Firat didn’t do this to be appreciated or for respect. He did this as a selfless act.
    This is exactly why i appreciate Firat. That is why he will always have my respect.
    Long live the Kurdish people.

    This man should be an advisor on politics in the middle east he has such a deep understanding of both sides. Men like this could change everything we know about that area.

    Thank you Firat for your service and for your dedication in the fight against terrorism!! We are of different ethnicities but it don't matter cause we all have a common good purpose and that's really awesome to see brothers come together to do the right thing and stand together against evil! You seem like a good hearted man and i would definitely be honored to fight beside you! God bless you Firat and all the other combat veterans that fight for good! Keep up the great work, we support you. 👏

      Same here. I've made a habit of rewatching that series every few months since first I watched it in 2018. It's very inspiring and encouraging, even for a civilian because it can inform us on how the be a value-add here at home.

    I worked with Kurt's when we operated out of Mosul in 2003 & 2004. They are tough, tough filters and great guys to work with . I was able to help get out there, Mosen , over here with his family and I see him weekly . A great friendship forged in hardship . Totally loyal.

    Amazing story about real people fighting real wars. In one perspective Firat story belongs also to the unconventional warfare world. Going there with no training and learning “on job” in such a conflict is insane. Respect to Firat and to all the ones that thrive in combat whit such unshakable attitude. Great work by Ryan once more!

    Firat's story is truly captivating.
    He goes from the security of Sweden to a country filled with war and destruction to help his people and his relatives in the fight against what I would claim is the worst organization the modern world has seen.
    Good man!
    As a Norwegian and with Sweden as a neighboring country, it was still fascinating to hear him tell his story.
    Interesting to hear what it was like to face Western and northern European ISIS terrorists in battle and fully understand that he wanted to find out everything he could about those thugs!
    Keep up the good fight!

    This was different, but just as amazing as all your other interviews. Those of us who have served and been in conflicts will have undoubtedly wondered if it's all worth it, or ask ourselves why we are fighting a particular war thousands of miles away from home. Firat, however, was fighting for his people and his homeland. Firat seems like a really genuine guy and fought for something he held dear to him at the risk of being labelled a terrorist. This second part was particularly interesting to me because, years ago, I used to follow his friend Jack on Instagram. I remember not seeing any posts from him in some time, so checked the comments on his last post. That was how I found out Jack had tragically been KIA. Keep up the great work, Ryan.

    This incredible interview showed up on my feed the same week I learned about and listened to Nadia Murad’s book ‘Last Girl.’ She is one of the Yazidi women mentioned here. In her book, she tells the story of the siege and capture of her people by isis, the genocide of their men and elders, the enslavement of their girls and women, and the details of her escape. In recent news Nadia was cancelled as a speaker at an event because the organizers feared she might encourage “islamophobia.” I hope others who listen to this interview will also read or listen to her story as well. She should not be cancelled! The pairing of the two stories-this interview and her book- gave me a more comprehensive understanding and helped me to better appreciate the work of these men.

    • @BigBayouMama
      @BigBayouMama 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nadia now works to raise awareness and actively seeks justice for her people. I’d love to see a part 3 interview with both her and Firat. How often does an audience get to hear from a representative of the fighting class alongside a representative of the people for whom he fights? The idea is a little out-of-the-box and might take some extra logistical work, but I think it would be a powerful experience for the listener.

    The "Buffers" in a vacuum for control, and power to extremist views, are those who suffer most. Not a world soldier, and recognized as such, by the powers that be; The last 10 mins of this 2 part interview hit me like a slap round! Personal sacrifice for the greater good; Ferat knew, even as a youthful BreakDancer; "If it has to be, It has to be me." That's huge! Thank you for this moving tale, that aside from all, he could tell it... Godspeed to all who endure!

    I agree. The US should've stood with the Kurds but they didn't because they didn't want to hurt the feelings of Turkey. Kurds and Turks need to learn how to get along.

    • @hoirecords

      From an outside perspective, it does seem to be a mostly one-sided problem.

    • @mausegetlit363
      @mausegetlit363 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about getting along, it's about systems of power that bases it's whole mindset on a one nation policy. There's no room for kurds or any other minorities in that system. BTW before European powers carved up the middle east and left kurds without a home country, the ottomans and kurds were almost synonymous

    • @Waniac
      @Waniac 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mausegetlit363 BTW the land the Kurds occupy and control in northern Iraq says differently. Turkey is very powerful in that area at the moment but the Kurds deserve our loyalty in the US for theirs' they have given to us. IMO....

      You know Matt's brother had cancer, and they wouldn't deploy him, so he snuck into another unit deployed with them without a weapon or anything. Once in Iraq, he went to the Armory and ended up getting issued equipment. All this while having cancer. Matt best story is pretty good. You have no idea, son

      @operationNOBO you commented on someone personally who had a fucking excellent story; that's why I had gotten personal with you. There's thousands of stories that are great out there. One of them is Matt's. Most of the stories died with my brothers. A lot of stories should be told by others who had witnessed the best in combat. He should have men on to tell a story that someone can not tell
