Everyone talks about using close-up lens filters and I myself use them some, but you can also use extension tubes. There is a price to be paid in diminished light, but they preserve the quality of the lens in use.
I would love one of those, years ago I got a moment anamorphic and even with iPhone footage it just made such a difference and had a little bit of that magic! Great video and loved the footage!
The short was shot beautifully, and all the B Roll was 🔥 too 🤘. Such a cool lens - cheers for all the examples and, of course for your honesty 🙏. The hair rocks by the way 🤘....and eh, yeah.... looking forward to the "Toilet Short" 🚽🎥🤣. Great video, Joris 🤘🙏😢
Wow I loved the look of it and indeed horizontally much wider which makes me think that it may not be suitable for every kind of setup. Loved the kitchen part ahahhs really but it struck me how fun it must be to use it outside. Unfortunately not really in my budget though so I ll stick to my rf lenses. Happy you have been able to take it outside whilst the weather allowed you too!
One thing you didn't mention is that using in-camera stabilization, at least on my Sony ZV-E1, looks terrible! it's wobbly wubbly... in other words.. really bad. Thanks for the video!
I LOVE your passion and creative genius, my Brother!! Amazing short film with a touch of humor, and I am really loving the anamorphic look. Many Thanks, as I'm now planning to purchase this lens someday. 😄 Much Love, Bro 🙏🏾
Depends on the lens... on some lenses the desqueeze ratio changes depending on the focusing distance. In that case, I do it manually. But DaVinci Resolve also has some desqueeze presets in the project settings.
@@JorisHermans let’s say with this lens, Sirui 35mm 1.6x on a fx3 or fx6. How would you do it manually on Davinci resolve? I use Final Cut but I guess if you’re doing it manually it should be he same concept? Also do you change the resolution of the project to 2.4:1 right away? Or you de-squeeze the clip to 2.8:1 first? then crop to 2.4:1?
Hello Joris. Thank you for this review. When you shoot into a blueish light and get a flare, do you get a neutral color (warm white) flare? Or a blue flare? Thank you
Yeah, money, always the problem. In photography and videography the word "cheap" or "cheaper" usually means it's just less expensive but still expensive 😅
Does anyone know if this lens would work with metabones mft to full frame? Using a bmpcc 4k and I believe using the mft 35 Sirui would be cropped, correct?
Binge watching your videos atm; I'm editing my very first video for a client (promo of a bar) and many of your tips are very helpful, just wanted to say thanks, Joris. Please stay relevant to us small filmmakers once you reach one million subs ;)
I think all the anamorphic lenses suffer from relatively bad minimum focusing distance. Even anamorphic lenses that cost 10k+ have those long min focus distances... An example would be the Atlas Orion lenses that cost each between about 10k to 17khave min focus distances of about 0.5m to 0.8m. From what I see is that not even high end anamorphics can natively focus closer than 0.5m.
The 35mm is very versatile but you basically have to focus on an object 90cm away to get that nice vertical bokeh distortion. I'm aware most of the time filmmakers keep the background a bit sharper / more involved overall but still.. would you prefer this over a 50mm? Will this lens work with the a7iv without cropping to much?
The studio shot in this video is also the Sirui 35mm, by the way 👌🏻😎
I thought it looked slightly different, besides the angle of course

I cant stress to you how Grateful I am about this video. This really helped me out.
Already got this lens on order. Thank you again Joris

Loved your talking style bro👍🏻
Woow
I have got to say, that short movie in the beginning was soo dope!
I wanted more 😍
Awesome content as always 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Very good exposition. BTW you can buy drop-in diopter sets, although they’re not cheap.
Yeah, that's always the problem with photography and videography: "not cheap" 😅
I like your humor ! More than the gear you talk about, keep going !

Beautiful is an understatement 😘

Thanks for the video!
love your content.
I am learning well by watching your videos to become a wonderful person like you!
🙏🏻🫡
On a scale from 1 to 10, you're an 11, and all the shots are Just 🔥
Definate NO on the toilet shot BUT......Really beautiful footage. Great work as always!

Wow 😁
Love your work! How do you set your aspect ratio and de squeeze for this lens in davinci? When i de squeeze my footage im not able to crop in.
What you were talking about a while ago with 30fps vs 24fps on youtube, I didn't notice any of the stuttering this video (I'm on 60hz btw)
What if I use it on a APS-C camera?
Cool video, was this shot on the A7S3?
Yep
link for dioptic filter? thanks!
Thank you for this good video!
Does the camera autofocus work with this lens ? Thanks mate !
No, all manual.
Joris without a hat?!?!
Jokes aside, anamorphic lenses are taking over and I'm so ready for them!
What is your workflow on how to de-squeeze a 16:9 3840x2160 to 2.39:1 cinescope?
Depends on the lens... on some lenses the desqueeze ratio changes depending on the focusing distance. In that case, I do it manually. But DaVinci Resolve also has some desqueeze presets in the project settings.

Dang great shots, that’s a nice lens. I need more, but also more money 1st haha

Can’t wait seeing a clip of you going to the toilet, shot anamorphic of course hahaha

I prefer 35 over 50 any day! Last time I used a 50 was in photography college... and maybe for a video 😅
Has it Auto focus settings?
No, manual focus.
Also a good hair reveal video. 🤣
🙃
The lens was cool, but how about that audio??? That's the real experience on this video. Would be amazing if you gave us a clue of how you did that :)
waiting for your video of you going to the toilet. lol
Hippy. 🤣🤣🤣
🤨🙃
Budget , thing is like 2 k in canada 😂
But how much is a real cine anamorphic?
