Once you get a grasp of your karate skills, study for a year or two with Aikido or ju-jutsu on a part time basis. You will see the katas in a different light. They are close quarter combat, up close and personal. Lots of grappling followed with a strike.
1/2 of Kata bunkai has grappling elements and approximately 1/2 of bubishi is grappling (and combined grappling/striking approach). Sports destroyed Karate as a complete combat discipline.
I am from Istanbul Turkey; I was very happy to see Malaysian Karate-ka so attentive and motivated; they clapped after every demonstration and tried to repeat the moves. Congratulations.
I'm sure I've practiced an ITF TKD form possibly named Won-hyo, which is too similar to this kata. It's known TKD forms are based on karate, but I never saw the resemblance so obvious.
The shifting of weight to make the techniques at ~2:26 in the video are not at all represented in the kata, yet that weight shifting is KEY to making any sort of counter work. This is the problem with kata.
Which weight shift are you referring to? The kata prescribes a back stance in this move which is defined with a weight shift of approximately 70% weight to the back leg.
It’s not really a problem with the kata. It’s a problem with his application. It’s awkward and unrealistic. Whereas the kata, when applied correctly, is pretty true to life.
This karate master is impressive. He actually teaches blocking at realistic speeds. His strikes are quick and sharp and his kicks are good.
My favorite Instructor of the JKA! I’d love to train with him at a seminar. You all are, richly, blessed to have Naka, Sensei. Oneigashimasu
Thank you for posting. Always great to see Naka Sensei teach, and to hear him speaking English is so cool!

Nice 😍
How the hell did the guy in the front row get a black belt?!? His technique is almost non-existent ffs...
He appears to be over 70. The mobility decreases and you slow down, but there could be a little more tension (kime).
Agreed infact how did the instructor get a yellow belt he knows nothing !
Is this bunkai or oyo-bunkai?
In heian nidan there is no uramashi-geri 🤔

tienes razón Alfredo. ! Hay unos que tienen un cinturon negro con poder del amarillo.

It's funny how some blackbelts still cant execute a simple zenkutsu dachi stance when theyre supposed to be a master of it at that belt. lol
GOD JESUS CHRIST IS COMING BACK AMEN ❤

los cinturones negro poco kime
Inaccettabile!!! Cinture nere che non conoscono il kata....e si muovono mediocremente. Inaccettabile!!!!
Still with this app. But we really believe that the masters of the past were stupid enough to try to apply this technique in this way.
The old man with the six golden stripes on his belt shows extremely bad techniques. He holds a 6th Dan and is that bad? Holy sh..!
Vedo cinture nere, che non se la sono meritata .
It is well known that Naka is great, but the constant applauding is just awkward. Just don't do that.
