"Superwolf" is so high on my list of personal favorites... can't say how many times I've listened to it front to back. To hear a sequel of sorts is coming fills me with happiness I haven't felt in a while. So excited.
Damn...so good to see you, Will. I’ve been feelin on your music since the mid-90s while in art school in Boston. My boyfriend at the time introduced me to Palace Brothers and I was instantly hooked on your weird, warbly, and supercharged songs. Thank you so much for your art!!
You were the last artist I saw live before Covid stopped most everything. You played a marvelous set at Stuart’s Opera with Emmett Kelly. Jonathan Richmond was also on the bill and closed with an equally beautiful set. If there had to be one last show to see, that was one of the best. Thanks to you, Mr. Richmond and the folks at Stuart’s-can’t wait to see another show there
What a great interesting and smart and funny guy is Will! Loved his music for so many years but never really got any glimpse of his personality so this is great! Respect him that much more. Plus he has given me plenty of albums and books to check out! (very nice to hear him sing the praises of Chris Brokaw, Thalia Zedek and their fantastic Boston based band Come, one of my favorites...Will seems to be into all kinds of music though maybe not the Who some much, even if one of his sometimes band members shares his name with one of their songwriters).
this was really nice, thank you! i remember seeing superwolf at the matador when i was a freshman in college that was pretty eh-pretty cooool to see him talk about that! thanks for posting!
It’s funny how musical interests converge and cross paths. From the Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb album, which is also on my shelf, to the connection between Live Skull, Come and, although unmentioned, Chavez, which are also on my shelf. My appreciation of Live Skull in the ‘80s led to the discovery of Come when 11:11 was released, that same band a big influence on Clay Tarver and Matt Sweeney, members of Chavez. Will has tied it all together for us.
In the opening shot, just to BPB's left elbow in rock section I see "Daddy Cool.. Daddy who" in the background. classic Aussie rock..used to be in just about every Australian household in the 70s..think Flamin Groovies meet shanana..awesome
A few years ago I picked up Charles Willeford's Wild Wives and High Priest of California as a two-fer paperback, not bad quality. He also wrote the novel Cockfighter, later adapted into an underrated Monte Hellman film starring Warren Oates.
Weird, weird, weird. Not kidding: the last thing was listening before watching this was the Chris Brokaw record, Canaris (yellow cover, a yellow vinyl). I was listening to that I my stereo, through speakers. Watching this video, a half-hour later on a laptop in headphones I hear Canaris playing and thought some how the record started playing again (like maybe my wife put it back on????). Freaked my shit out. In the video the music is clear, but just remote enough that it totally confused me for a sec. Just thought y'all should know.
not wrong but you were both missing out by not including Raffi in the mix. People (myself included) often dismiss him as a generic kids music performer but he and his music run far deeper than that.
This was mid-pandemic Covid craziness and I think he didn't want to contaminate any product. I wondered the same thing at first then quickly realized I was watching two years after it was recorded.
Can anyone give me some more info on the Cross record? Is Cross the band name, or album title? I've tried searching a number of different ways and coming up completely empty handed.
The greatest songwritter of his generation, thanks from the heart for so many beautiful moments, your music changed my life.
My boy Brett Ralph. A gifted poet and songwriter in his own right. And the owner of Surface Noise.
Malignant Growth FTW
The bold BPB , a bona fide legend of American music ,and all around gem of a chap .

it is great- is it rock is it folk is it a sturdy welding of the two? I have not gotten the superwolves follow up yet but aim to soon.
loved all of will's stories. loved the sound of the camera focusing for some reason.

This is just a delight. Feel like I am visiting the shop myself.

What an underrated composer. For me he is clone to best America has to offer.
love Will's voice and music, and what he loves... i pay attention!
Jimmy Webb definitely one of the big songwriters of the 20th century. Just amazing all the way thru
This was really wholesome, thx Will!

I remember getting Live Skull’s Dusted on cassette for 99 cents at a used record store in Huntington, WV.
This is awesome! Thank you!
Thanks a lot!
This is a great video, I am a huge fan of Mr Oldham. It will be forever dated as a 2020 video based on his attire.
Great video!
5:40 Will Oldham singing Madonna deep tracks and swiftly moving on
That was oddly satisfying. And Brett Ralph is awesome.

Eagle Rock

The gloves lmfao
Reunionnis a fucking classic album , well played Will
Madonna is my favourite underground artist too!
😂
Shout out Pal's Lounge!
Thanks. :-)
"The El Matador". 😆😆😆
thanks for shouting out charles willeford
(A year later) Never mind. I take it back!
Willeford!!
Brett the singer of Spotlights?
Raffi 😻
Just lovely, especially the Warren Oates love at the end. x
Love this! Please do more of these, also shouts out to Matt Kivel, great musician.
Anyone make a list?
Is he really wearing a BLM cap and surgical gloves? That will certainly make this easy to date…precisely.
😂
Getting to know your heroes can be extremely disappointing. Guess I’ll just listen to Days in the Wake on repeat and think about the good ol’ days.
you just watched a video of him. that’s pretty different from “getting to know your heroes” but sure.
what tee shirt is will wearing?
Bonnie!!!

4:30 is it wrong that I skipped Raffi nd all of that kids music for my son and just fed his baby head with NRBQ and Parliament?
not wrong but you were both missing out by not including Raffi in the mix. People (myself included) often dismiss him as a generic kids music performer but he and his music run far deeper than that.
What is the song at the beginning?
Will. What's up with the surgical gloves?
This was mid-pandemic Covid craziness and I think he didn't want to contaminate any product. I wondered the same thing at first then quickly realized I was watching two years after it was recorded.
Your mouth has always be your most attractive attribute to me! Love this!
Can anyone give me some more info on the Cross record? Is Cross the band name, or album title? I've tried searching a number of different ways and coming up completely empty handed.
The band is Cross and the album is "Die Forever"
@@shweazel Thank you!!

Nice hat! It's so fashionable to wear that slogan.
sure, yes, it was fashionable when this was recorded
is doggy named after GG Allin?
Kudos on the hat!
Ha! Will you rule.
Was thinking this was going to be some cynical dump on Amoeba clips but this was a fucking treat. Love the Jimmy Webb/Glen Campbell rec.
A top 3 favorite artist but the mask and BLM virtue signaling is gross
I’m pretty sure all of the drag city artists are art school libs it’s a little cringe but the music is good
lov
I’m sure it’s been said before but Will reminds me of Beck - have they ever been pictured together? If not I’m convinced they’re the same person!
so will loves bill and George dang! im out!
Its always the white guy in the black lives matter hat that doesn't have any black music on his shelves.
Good point
Doesn’t mean you have to simp to nogs
Could you guys get Will to do some sort of style video?
So sad to see today's artists supporting multinational corporations like Comcast
Huh?
love WIll. lame hate. really lame hat.
What is the point of that shitty electric piano playing while he's talking in the shop. Absolutely unnecessary.
I love Will but this video is hipster riggamaroe.
I didn't watch this video
Surprising that will fell for the covid bs, wearing the gloves and all.. 😂
You’re an idiot
Strangely boring Will.
