Super talented for sure. Dave Mathew’s has this incredible type of talent to sing and play some wildly different rhythms on the guitar. It’s some incredible writing for sure.
And he keeps it going without any help from a backup musician. He always had incredible bands but to see him perform on his own must be a very special experience.
Sweet moment of at 0:29 when a woman yells "Thank you for 25 years of memories!" And John responds back immediately like "I should be the one thanking you"
i don't think is that hard to be honest i would say just really tricky. John did a live on ig where he said that this song started as an exercise, so if you treat it just like an exercise, learn it note for note, and play it at different speeds while watching videos or a movie without thinking much about it, you'll quickly develop the muscle memory to just focus on singing!! takes patience tho, you need to get the guitar part right to the point where you don't even think about it, but it's really achievable!
@@ignadrs I agree, I learned the song called “The Stone” by Dave matthews band and it’s exactly like you said. Just learn the guitar part until you have it down without thinking about it, and the singing will come after.
I’ve been doing this exercise for 5 years now, could only sing the parts like the beginning of the verse, end of chorus, but not the whole. It’s hard. While i can sing and play Neon pretty much every bit except on times my thumb detaches and falls apart.
They’ve been back for a while it’s just that he doesn’t have to use in ear monitors here on stage because he doesn’t have a bassist and a drummer on stage with him. He has on stage monitors, which make it a lot easier to stay on pitch. But yeah his vocal performance during this tour has been one of his best ever.
The amount of times I’ve watched this and uttered “how the actual fuck?” is embarrassing. This man is a guitar God. His playing, his technical ability, his lyricism, his singing, and the emotion that he evokes while doing all of the above, is supernatural.
I feel like the era of john mayer live videos > studio versions is coming back with this new acoustic only tour. These songs sound so mature and sure of themselves as to almost isolated and cold sound when he was younger. Love seeing this type of growth in music with artists
Absolutely love me some Mayer, a lot of his so ga that seem cold and distant are amazing. Sometimes it takes a couple hundred times to fully understand what he's saying. I swear he means one thing and then all of sudden it all clicks
I would have never expected such a huge wall of sound from just one acoustic guitar. I was generally really impressed with how creative they got with the one man band set up.
He is using an electric organ pedal keyboard to play the bass with his feet. You can check how he stops tapping the tempo with his leg at 4 minutes mark and starts playing bass notes. Sounds so amazing
I hope someday there's a release of one or two or three of his concerts in these acoustic stuff with a professional cam and in full length of all setlist
A Where the Light Is 2 would be my every hope and dream. The Seattle show was insane, hope to relive this brilliance he's capturing over and over in the future.
I was at his Toronto show, and obviously loved the whole night; one thing I noticed is that his voice hasn't sounded this good in a long time! It sounds like he's been putting in some real work with it, maybe with a vocal coach, but he's not struggling to hit those higher notes. Huge props, we always knew the guitar was never gonna be an issue lol
@4:00 that strobe light they started doing when he is playing the instrumental was so surreal - the camera can't capture all the frames so you miss out the experience but man, when you are there, it's seriously phenomenal
I personally believe this riff is harder to sing with than Neon Nevertheless John is brilliant in conveying full band songs to just him and his acoustic guitar, simply masterful...
@@sinjon Yea man I mastered neon in like half a year and it all comes down to that right hand feeling and rhythm, But this song.... I just can't get it done, let alone singing along with it 🤣
Absolutely ty 4 being so kind 2 post this - so grateful when people share their experiences since it is likely i will never get to hear him in person myself. Very generous 🙏
They have been specifically asking people NOT to record- which makes me think they are doing a movie (documentary) or something. But this song made my husband an official fan.
I about to see this show. I'm so damn excited! Thanks for posting vids with decent audio. Best I've found from this tour. John better make a live album out of this one!
I never envisioned this song on acoustic, but it's really perfect, and sounds so good with the palm-muting and a lil reverb. Hope he comes to Sweden with his acoustic tour.
Sometimes i can't figure out if he is getting better with age, or if i am just better able to appreciate how good he is as i age, but i believe it's both. I have always loved his music, & this song in particular. Maybe someday i will be lucky enuf to catch a concert 🤞🤞 - crowds are not my favorite, & they are difficult for me to navigate, but i would consider it to see him in person. 👵🙏

I saw him in Pittsburg last month and the show was fantastic. If there were 2 songs that he would’ve had the full band for, it would be this and gravity. Born and raised was probably the best sounding song of the night. The harmonica with the guitar gave me chills!
As a guitar player, it is absolutely beyond me how in the world he plays this and sings at the same. He sounds so good here.
same... he must have two brains or something
Super talented for sure. Dave Mathew’s has this incredible type of talent to sing and play some wildly different rhythms on the guitar. It’s some incredible writing for sure.
I played guitar and sung on rock band at the same time and that was enough 😂
And he keeps it going without any help from a backup musician. He always had incredible bands but to see him perform on his own must be a very special experience.
And only downstrokes. That's the impressive part.
Sweet moment of at 0:29 when a woman yells "Thank you for 25 years of memories!" And John responds back immediately like "I should be the one thanking you"
If y’all don’t know how hard that is to play AND sing together, it’s legendary level.
Dave matthews is also unreal for this type of playing.

A very underrated skill. Elliott Smith has some very difficult songs that he plays and sings. This is next level though, especially to play live.
Absolutely my favorite live performance from JM. Perfection
his vocals, they're back! his second prime for sure
They’ve been back for a while it’s just that he doesn’t have to use in ear monitors here on stage because he doesn’t have a bassist and a drummer on stage with him. He has on stage monitors, which make it a lot easier to stay on pitch.

I saw him one his first shows back after surgery and he still killed it
The amount of times I’ve watched this and uttered “how the actual fuck?” is embarrassing. This man is a guitar God. His playing, his technical ability, his lyricism, his singing, and the emotion that he evokes while doing all of the above, is supernatural.
This song is absolutely electrifying in person. The whole crowd, double neck guitar, and the lighting was just magical!
It absolutely blew my mind ❤️

That's why I'm so happy to be seeing this show on Monday!!
Never thought much of that song, but I saw him in London and this was my favourite performance of the night. Love the progression, and the feel
He played this in Pittsburgh. It was as if he went somewhere and took us along with him. This was worth the price of admission.
Yes!!! It’s one of my favorites and nothing better than hearing it live!
For decades, This man has repeatedly blown me away
I hope John reads these comments and sees how appreciated he is by his fans. We are behind you John!!
What a humbling and heartwarming experience it must be to have a host of people singing along to one of your songs that they adore. Goosebumps.
The ending you could literally feel the bass inside at the venue. We literally got goosebumps! One of the best live shows we have ever been to!

Ive been on the computer all day, techno living. But i was only alive for 6 minutes and 10 seconds. Thankyou JM.
I practiced this song every single day for so long and now I can play it and sing at the same time. Thank you for this song John
Better than me! I can play it but definitely can’t sing while playing 🤣

definitely tricky song. At the beginning it felt impossible to play and sing it at the same time but now that I know how to do it. feels good
I was at the concert as well. What an amazing night. He gets better and better every year.
I hope I can get to watch him live someday :) Been a fan for 15 years

Agreed. The hardest part about Neon is the strumming. The strumming and arpeggiating are difficult with this one

Absolutely my favorite JM song, amazing acoustic version here
Every John Mayer song is my favorite
This version is crazy passionate.
Sounds so good acoustically. Probably replaces that version from the Hollywood bowl i usually go to✨🎶
Nah man, the intro on that one is crazy

I’m happy to share! I hope you do get an opportunity one day to see him!
I was there. And it was something else… out of this world! One of the best days in my life.
I saw him live in Indianapolis this year, and I cried like a child during Edge of Desire
I'm having such a good time watching this video, He is so amazing ... and this song, perfect!
His voice is better than ever. the guitar playing is legendary.
No, thank YOU so much, J.C. Mayer!
Incredible performance.
This is so epic, what an awesome experience to be in the room and hear it live! John is incredible
This tour needs a Blu-ray release
Necesito que salga un album, un dvd con lo mejor de la gira y un documental de como se realizó
Hard to imagine how he does this with both vocals and that kind of guitar playing, amazing stuff, and so glad to have this on video here, thank you!
What a legend. Got chills instantly, my favorite musician!! You rock John 🎉
NOW THAT WAS INSANELY GOOOODDDD
Thank you so much for sharing! It's been hard to find any videos so far of the tour...makes me excited for Chicago in 2 weeks!!

All the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing

Or maybe this mattress will spin on its axis
And find me on yours

The amount of focus needed to play this and the fact hes singing at the same time im sorry but the hype is real this guy is a legend.
