You took the wrong route that's why you were late... Go through agra Lucknow, then yamuna expressway then take KMP Expressway, exit this expressway at Kundli, then go straight on NH44 for atleast 200kms, then take the bypass for shimla.... You should have reached there by 11-11:30PM

1.Aadishakti Travels - The first bus from Lucknow to Chandigarh is a 2+2, AC, non-video Bharat Benz Seater that departs at 4:15 PM.
2. Nayar Travels (OPC) Private Limited - The last bus from Lucknow to Chandigarh is an Ashok Leyland that departs at 10:15 PM.
3.Himachal Travels - The first and last bus from Lucknow to Chandigarh is operated by Himachal Travels and departs at 8 PM.
4.Gajraj bus service- A sleeper bus that departs at 9:50 PM and takes 12 hours and 20 minutes to reach Chandigarh.
5.GK Travels - An AC Seater/Sleeper (2+1) that departs at 10 PM and takes 13 hours to reach Chandigarh.
Some popular boarding points in Lucknow include Alambagh and Gomti Nagar. Some popular dropping points in Chandigarh include Tribune Chowk, 52 Sector Sunrise Hotel, and ISBT Sec 43.
