The word Metro or Metropolitan actually came from London, not Paris. The Metropolitan Railway in London (now the Metropolitan Line) predates the Paris Metro. Most people will say it was the first underground railway in the world. It is certainly the oldest, but the Liverpool and Manchester Railway was the first - it now takes a different route into Liverpool not via that tunnel. "Subway" comes from the Glasgow District Subway which some people say is the second oldest in the world, however it isn't even the second oldest in Glasgow.

The Eiffel Tower. The one Eiffel offered to Barcelona before Paris. I remember. So Barcelona city council said no thanks and Eiffel who made some bridges in Girona then moved to Paris. In Barcelona now since then we have a Triumph Arch (l'Arc de Triomf) and it is very close to el Parc de la Ciutadella. So imagine having in the same city La Sagrada Família and the Eiffel Tower (la Torre Eiffel). Well, it wasn't meant to be.
Little Slovak note: There is a street called Rue de Presbourg (Bratislava street, named after the Slovak Capital) next to Arc de Triomphe. This street has got its name after the signing of Bratislava peace treaty after Napoleon's battle at Austerlitz that took place in today's Czech republic in 19th century.
@Honestguide if you ever come to denmark ,and sønderborg .do say we have alot of story here .there was a big battle in 1864 Denmark vs Austria/ preusser
I would have thought you also would visit the Statue of Liberty at Pont de Grenelle, since that is actually the model the bigger Statue of Liberty in NYC is based on. Also I would have thought you might introduce people to the Batobus, a ferry on the Seine which is public transport. So you have a cruise and public transport to some of the bigger touristic places at the same time. And as last: I would also highlight the Tour Montparnasse, where you can have a view over the city of Paris for a low price as well, but without the waiting times at for example the Tour de Eiffel.
I have to disagree with Janek on Prague being a big city. It is not. Usually you can reach any point in Prague within 15 to 20 minutes. Or in reverse, even during rush hour, you can drive from Malostranska or Smetanovo nabrezi (which is pretty much the city centre) to the edge of the city near Divoka Sarka in well under 20 minutes. Try doing that in a 'big city'. Again, Prague is not a big city, even though the Prague metro area has 1.3 million people, this city lacks the grand boulevards (no, magistrala is not a grand boulevard) and grand squares or roundabouts (no vitezne namesti is not a grand roundabout) you see in places like Brussels, Budapest, Warsaw... or indeed Paris or London. Prague, for some reason, feels small, it does not feel like one of Europes great population centers. It is very very majestic and beautiful though, 'big' it ain't
I hope you had a nice time at the 2028 Sydney Olympics. Loved the Empire State Building and the whole TikTok. Well done on 58 million followers on your Threads! The Pnovansky ship tunnel looked jaw dropping! The gravel snowboard incline looked good!
Monte Kaolino reminds me of a sandboarding by Madventures. But as it was in Namibia, it would extend the driving route from Czechia to Paris by a few km. :D
I don't know if it's still a thing or not, but you used to be able to get a better pass for the metro. They sell a cheaper one to locals and will also sell it to anyone, but you need a passport sized photo with you to buy one. It's been several years, so I don't know if you can still do this. They didn't have smartphones or apps the last time I was there 😉
Montréals paris métro signe Is actually an original and the only one installed at a metro entrance outside of France. It had until recently the original glass globes and not the plastic ones that had replaced them in Paris... Just a little correction
As a french watching the video I had to pause a few times as I was very surprised. 10:15 WTF is that croissant? The person who sold you that should be in jail for this heresy. A croissant has nothing in it or with it. The only acceptable exception is almonds. Nothing else. If it has something like cream or anything else, then it's not a croissant, with chocolate it'a a pain au chocolat (chocolatine pour nos amis du sud), with apples it's a chausson aux pommes, with grapes it's pain au raisin etc. 12:02 I've been in Prague for 5 months (just came back...) and yes there are way more people in Paris than in Prague in the metro 15:55 these sellers are illegals. They are selling without permits or paying taxes. Don't encourage them to do this business and help us clean our city from this mess 17:43 that's absolutely illegal and dangerous! It is causing a lot of problems and accidents. As a cyclist myself, I put my bike to block the other cyclists to cross on the red light. This problem is plaguing the city since covid and is polarizing the debate about bikes in Paris. Don't do that as a tourist, we already have too much of this in our own. BUT the small sign is legal so yes in some cases you can. But it's almost (99% of the cases it's going to the right and signaling a continuity of the cycling way without crossing another street) 19:17 at that time, multiple companies were creating the metro. The one that gave us the word was almost forgotten but the most famous one is probably the North-South line that gave us the 12 and 13 line. In every station that was created by this line (it was one but divided into 2 later) you can see a small pannel explaining the story behind this line. These station are the one I love the most because of the decorations around the name. IIRC it should be small ceramics panes ornated with waves (light blue, brown or green depending on the station but maybe other coulours)
...and why you have in Paris the same color for different roads of train/metro??? Yellow one for example... It was described as to stop at one station and of course it didn't, I had to wait 1 hour for coming back this one station... super annoying.
@@grossibp it's about the RER C? It's a mess. There are multiple (too much) branches so if you want to go somewhere you have to take the good train. I'm almost never using it due to that. RER and metro are quite different and serve a slighly different purpose. RER is more used by peoples going to or comming from outside Paris (for example to go to La Défense by RER A or to Versailles by RER C) Btw "metro" in frech is masculine but a metro line is feminine so "the 12" (the metro line 12 is feminine: "la 12" or "la ligne 12). But RER is masculine and you say "le C" or "le RER C") A letter always designate a RER or a "train de banlieue" (RER: circle, train: square) and a number is a metro line or a tram (trams always have a T in front of the number and are mostly if not totaly located outside of Paris)

I lived near Sinsheim and Speyer and i am very astonished of your research about the technical museum from both city. Most people doesnt mention it
Спорт, это то лучшее, что придумало человечество 😊😊😊
The Eiffel Tower. The one Eiffel offered to Barcelona before Paris. I remember. So Barcelona city council said no thanks and Eiffel who made some bridges in Girona then moved to Paris.
In Barcelona now since then we have a Triumph Arch (l'Arc de Triomf) and it is very close to el Parc de la Ciutadella. So imagine having in the same city La Sagrada Família and the Eiffel Tower (la Torre Eiffel).
Well, it wasn't meant to be.
🇪🇸Quite happy with that decision. It's very ugly. People just like it because it's romantized a lot.
Gaudí it's our great artist over here😘👌
Was hoping for a Adam Ondra cameo. But great video non the less.
I like your hoodie, Janek!
Sorry guys but, the Montreal Metro Arch is THE only original outside of Paris. It used to be at the Charles de Gaulle Étoile station.
We are going to be in Prague in a 3 days, as one of your biggest fans, we would love to meet you!
We need a honest guide version parisien for Paris :)
I can't wait to watch the olympics ruin Paris.
Guys I am guide in Paris I want to meet you!
Nice and subtle product placement
I hope you had a nice time at the 2028 Sydney Olympics. Loved the Empire State Building and the whole TikTok. Well done on 58 million followers on your Threads! The Pnovansky ship tunnel looked jaw dropping! The gravel snowboard incline looked good!
Totally agree, the Honda boat was neat, I wonder if it was paid promotion..
@@aaronaaronsen3360 I wrote it all as a joke im not dumb!
@@SSS92934 I never said you were, I thought it was funny and was building on top of it.
Sorry if it sounded condescending, that was not my intention 😅
Quite the road trip!
The nice honest guide.
They didn't have smartphones or apps the last time I was there 😉
Good one
Montréals paris métro signe Is actually an original and the only one installed at a metro entrance outside of France. It had until recently the original glass globes and not the plastic ones that had replaced them in Paris... Just a little correction
Tips when driving to Paris during the Olympics, don't it's overpriced and congested and most of it is blocked off for the athletics.
Hamza should visit Holland Huis one day (dutch house) pretty sure he will change his mind :)
Cutting lovelocks will become olympic
that philharmony building (13:22) reminds me a lot the Musée des Confluences in Lyon...different architect though
Just don't go to Paris. It's full of Parisians 😅😂
12:02 I've been in Prague for 5 months (just came back...) and yes there are way more people in Paris than in Prague in the metro
15:55 these sellers are illegals. They are selling without permits or paying taxes. Don't encourage them to do this business and help us clean our city from this mess
17:43 that's absolutely illegal and dangerous! But it's almost (99% of the cases it's going to the right and signaling a continuity of the cycling way without crossing another street)
19:17 at that time, multiple companies were creating the metro.
RER is more used by peoples going to or comming from outside Paris (for example to go to La Défense by RER A or to Versailles by RER C)
Btw "metro" in frech is masculine but a metro line is feminine so "the 12" (the metro line 12 is feminine: "la 12" or "la ligne 12). But RER is masculine and you say "le C" or "le RER C")
A letter always designate a RER or a "train de banlieue" (RER: circle, train: square) and a number is a metro line or a tram (trams always have a T in front of the number and are mostly if not totaly located outside of Paris)
@@phileascurtil5605 Yes, I was going RER C to outside, I studied well the tables and knew this is the proper one but nope hehe, LOL C
@@phileascurtil5605tu devrais ouvrir une chaîne, the honest guide ''french edition'' 😂

honestly, you guys, got asked FROM the olympic team from czech? that's so cool. sorry if I wrote the country wrong
Tupolew is known from trauma in Poland as most hated airplane. Exactly Tupolew TU-154 which crashed on 10 april 2010 in Smolensk while flying to Katyn. Over 80 people, including polish president and his wife, all died. It's forbidden to fly with Tupolew in Poland.
22:17 Wait a minute, "Češi do toho" means "Go Czechs" (it's a way to cheer for Czech teams; "do toho" means "go ahead", "go for it"). Is Janek trying to pull a "language scam" on us? 😂 Regardless, good luck to the Czech teams!
2:23 I was expecting Janek to grab a pair of bolt cutters out of his backpack and break the padlocks, but unfortunately no 😀
I'm coming back to this Formula 1 track, did you know that Brno also used to have a Formula 1 track? The remains of the pit can still be seen today. 😅
great video
