    Positive news for the N E. Now we need you as Transport Minister and the ever present Tees Valley Mayor to ensure the 3rd leg to the north is built, fulfilling the oft repeated promise from the PM down, to build back utilising HS2 as a key spine to that promise. Failure will not go unnoticed locally!

    For the Chilterns tunnels they are manufactured at the portal, shame they couldn't have reduced the road/rail miles for these?

      @1chish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You do realise tunnels will be being built in the Midlands and the North of England as well?
      if they were supplied from near the M25 you would have complained about the mileage. Right?

      @@1chish As stated up-thread; the likelihood is the lion's share of the tunnelling will be in the south. Even more so if the later phases are paused or curtailed.

    Just goes to show that this won't just benefit business travellers in London as some have suggested but the entire country in one way or another. Glad to see a factory opening in Hartlepool, one of the most deprived places in the country, that could really do with an economic boost like this. Naysayers being proven wrong once again!

      @@Red_wine I know that but the train they proposed is still being proposed, and it's basically been unofficially announced that that's where the contract is going. This is because Siemens is suing HS2 Ltd. because they believe they should have the contract instead of Hitachi/Bombardier being the official reason given, thus revealing that the contract, whilst not officially announced, looks set to go to the Hitachi/Bombardier JV (even if Bombardier has since been bought by Alstom)

      It is, though will no doubt require some minor (in the scheme of things) works to configure the loading sidings and the product will be railed to London.

      Sprinkle a couple of hundred jobs around the country at the cost of a few million, simply to provide the soundbite of 'investment across the country' when challenged in interviews.

      Can you explain to this simple old fellah why people like you feel the need to take the piss out of everything and anything?
      What is so wrong with a foreign firm investing in the UK?
      What is so wrong with giving contracts to firms prepared to invest in the North?
      This firm has been operating in the UK for 10 years and is is one of many 'global leaders' in the UK both British and foreign owned.
      And finally for such a smartarse you clearly know nothing about tunneling because making tunnel segments is a VERY specialist business.

      This literally benefits everyone you moro n. As the video shows even places as far away as Hartlepool are getting a boost from HS2. Hartlepool is one of the most deprived towns in the UK, if you could stop and imagine the quality of life of a resident of Hartlepool regarding education, crime, health, life expectancy etc and then realise that can all be changed by economic boosts such as this factory opening then perhaps you wouldn't post such ignorant tripe.
