My wife gave me one of these last year in charcoal gray. From the minute I touched it, the guitar felt like an “instrument“, not just another guitar. Beautifully built, solid and sure, it has a unique sound and touch. It’s really kind of intimidating!
I have the 35th Anniversary SE Custom. The guitar is crazy good. I put locking tuners and installed Vaugn Skow PRS specific humbuckers. They sounded great. I had thoughts of selling the guitar and put the original pups back. I played it a bit to make sure everything was ready to sell. But I just couldn't quit playing it. Maybe my "ear" changed. Glad it did. This PRS isn't going anywhere.
I have the exact same guitar, but no modifications. I really should put on locking tuners, it does come out of tune a bunch. That said, the guitar plays beautifully, such an amazing instrument with a lovely tone
Nice video, thanks! I'm a veteran, as they say, been playing and performing for 60 years, and never dipped my toe into the PRS world. I bought a PRS SE Custom 24-08 Eriza Verde a few months ago (on a bit of a whim - I loved the colour and the figuring), and it was a revelation, in so many ways. I haven't played my Gibsons and Fenders since. Since then I've also bought a PRS SE Custom in Black Gold and a third in Faded Blue!
I’m 56 and quickly becoming a PRS fanboy. Se Silver Sky(maple fretboard, a must) and now the Custom and eventually Fiore. I wish for a Fiore SE
PRS SEs, Nux effects and Marshall Origin series, you really cant go wrong with those budget friendly gear. They're spectacular for what you pay.
You've just made my day I have them all and doubted myself because I'm on a budget with gear but with a bit of tweaking I can get great sounds out of this gear
I haven't tried the Nux effects, but I am really impressed with my BOSS amp effects. They actually sound good for such an inexpensive amp.
И нечего более выбирать! SE PRS лучшее, что есть
I have an SE Custom 08 from Sweetwater. Beautiful in every way. Versatile. I've been playing 50 years and own all the classics. This is a keeper.
I have a Sweetwater exclusive se custom 24. Burl ash top, mahogany body, maple neck. I love this guitar!!!
I have one as well. I did swap the pickups out though.
I just bought the Sweetwater exclusive with the quilted top today. I had a core custom 24 years ago but my mains have always been single cuts/tremonti. I'm hoping this will be on par with those.
Just bought a PRS SE Custom 24-08 and WOW!!!! What an incredible guitar. The value is unbeatable. I am so impressed with the SE that I’m going to buy a core model in a few months!
Ive been playing for 60+years bought this guitar 2 weeks ago. I can't put it down. Just love the thing. Sounds amazing plays like a dream.
I've got that exact same guitar and it is fantastic! Stays in tune nicely, and the finish and construction are top notch. My only complaint is that the pickups are a little harsh on the high end. If you dial it in perfectly on one pickup, it requires a lot of tweaking on both the guitar and amp when you select the other pickup. That's why I think the SE 594 would be the fix so that you can dial in both pickups and just switch back and forth all you like.
I thought maybe it was just a new backing track, but you definitely seemed to connect with that beautiful guitar. By the way you reacted at the end it was the guitar for sure. Nice playing, John.
Got a se standard. Affordable yet my favorite guitar to play.
How can we possibly trust this review when you have an affiliate link so you can make money on sales???
Because it doesn't matter what you buy, I'm not paid based on the item I'm reviewing. You can watch hundreds of unbiased reviews and decide if and what you want to buy. Thanks anyways
I have this exact guitar! Plays awesome with great tuning stability out the box and a shit ton of tone selection 10/10
I modified my Custom SE Custom 24 by swapping out the 85/15-S pickups for a set of PRS 57/08s; the push/pull tone pot for a bona fides 500K CTS tone pot; installed a 0.015 UF Bumblebee capacitor; PRS locking tuners, and a pair of amber/black lampshade speed knobs. Now, it sounds like a vintage Gibson, albeit with PRS quality workmanship, for a fraction of the price. As with Jon Oz's comment below, I was prepared to sell the guitar until I had made the modifications. Rest assured, it's coming with me to that The Great Gig in the Sky.
Great performance. Lovely video. A demonstration where it is enjoyable listening to the guitarist and the guitar.
Thanks, I appreciate that! Thanks for watching
It is a beautiful guitar but, I think the DGT SE is the one for me...Nice demo and review !!
I've got a SE CU24. Replaced the pickups, knobs, pots, tuners and nut. Sometimes I wish I'd kept it stock. A stock DGT is looking really good to me now, though. Edit: Or an SE McCarty 594.
The only PRS I really dig is the Starla. It has a cool vibe and vintage looks. Its got a lot of style.
I was really torn between the S2 Custom 24 10th Anniversary or the S2 594 10th Anniversary. If you haven't checked out those videos, here they are. I had gone back and forth on deciding for weeks before ultimately decided that the Custom 24 was more versatile for me. I already have a high end strat, and I can always buy an SE 594 so spending $2500 I think I'm going to be happier with the Anniversary Custom 24. Should be here in 2 weeks.

Im lefthanded and i got this prs! And its my fav guitar! Easy playable thin neck and its a beauty! Light weight too! A mix of strat and gibs and like all guitar players one thing left is to find the right sound that one wants amp/pedalwise in my case gary moore/John Sykes kind regards.
FYI…this guitar has a maple neck. Look at the neck tenon….and, the listing for this guitar on Sweetwater and Musicians Friend list it as having a maple neck.
Does anyone know if there’s a volume drop when the humbuckers are split to single coils, I can’t tell in this vid
You are paid if someone uses your link of the thing you are reviewing. This makes a biased review.
Wrong, I am paid if they buy anything using my link. So if you watch my demo on a PRS SE and buy a Fender instead, that's your educated decision and I still get paid. Im not incentivized to sell the item specifically in the video, I provide free unbiased reviews across most brands, but as you prove - people still find a way to complain.
@@PlayandTradeGuitars Do you have any bad reviews?
Good review, just like I said In the comments about this guitar for the price is way better than that Silversky, Martion looking Stratocaster.
These SE Custom 24's are really nice guitars.
At only 849, you can't go wrong.
Now we need to do a review on the Epiphone 61 SG Standard with/ Maestro Vibrola.
I got the Standard 24-08, and the binding has some small cracks, so I got it for $650, instead of $750, after talking them down. I then installed another tremolo spring, so 5 total with beefy bottom 54 gauge strings. I then filed the nut and adjusted everything to my preferred specs! Now it's one fat ass guitar! Haha
I've had this guitar for over a year and today thanks to this video I realized it has the split coil feature 😅😂
Picked up a custom 24 se recently. Love it!
Great informative video. That guitar sounds great with some gain.
Great post, what a great guitar.I bought one of these guitars a couple of years ago with a baked maple neck. It was great straight out the box, Ive since put Seymour Duncan phat cat p90's into it, put the prs locking tuners on it and upgraded the pots. It's a rocket launcher now lol, great playing guitars, thanks for sharing ✌😎✌🎸🎸
Mine will be here in 3 days! I can't wait, thanks!
“PRS is famous for having a compensated nut…”
This is literally the first time I have ever heard of PRS using a compensated nut, and it does not look like Earvana or Music Man compensated nuts. Is this truly a compensated nut?
Also, you mention that the SE Custom has a mahogany neck. That’s not accurate. The SE Custom and Standard models all have maple necks, as do about half of the other SE models.
Compensated can be done in another way than Earvana FYI, It may not be as precise but it still is compensated.
@@christianboddum8783 Still, this is the first I have ever heard anyone mention any kind of compensation on PRS nuts. Ever.
@@wilsondarren Also new to me, you can test it with a tuner; play an open e and fret the f on the first fret, if the f is in tune it will be compensated, if not is not compensated. It's actually quite eyeopening how much the pitch is off at the first fret....
This one or a G&L tribute legacy?
how does bending strings feel? and sustain? my cheaper guitars struggle. hard for me to test one out since im lefty
I bought that exact guitar, down to the color, for $700 new a month or so ago. I love it more than any guitar I've owned in the past. It sounds incredible.
Edit: Mine is a PRS SE Custom 24, but mine doesn't have a push pull config...
Just got one and the frets are the roughest I've ever felt. I mean worse than a $100 mini squier. I don't know how it ever left the factory with frets this bad. Pickups are also nothing special. Very generic sounding but credit to PRS they do respond to different picking dynamics more than a lot of humbuckers. Overall expected more with the PRS reputation. Probably better than a mexican fender but not by much. G string also tends to go out of tune sometimes. For the money I much prefer my Epi LP custom.
I bought a 2018 cherry burst SE custom 24 brand new in '18....wow. I've had this guitar for almost 6 years now and still play it daily like it's brand new....love it.
I found this guitar in a shiny orange, this video will help me make the decision! Should I get this guitar or the classic strat. Thanks man, keep going.😊
I just got mine yesterday. It's a turquoise one. I actually bought it hoping it would help fill the void left in my heart after losing my 1995 PRS Seafoam Green Standard 24 I lost 10 years ago. It did not. But for the price, I agree, it's a fine guitar.
Just received my PRS SE CUSTOM 24 today. Really liking it so far, but mine has the rosewood board on a maple neck, not a mahogany neck. A little bummed about that as I prefer mahogany necks. Looking to add some locking tuners and I'll be happy enough with it.
Thanks for the excellent vid! 😎
hi, i have the same guitar. Just a question. I have an issue with the volume knob. In position 0 to 2 makes some scratchy noise and it's not accurate at all. Any ideas?
At this point in time (26/Feb/23) I would not recommend going for an SE Custom 24. Rather go for SE McCarty or DGT. I just purchased an SE DGT. They are absolutely freaking amazing sounding. No corners cut for this SE model (except the volume/tone pots not having the bevel and the deep carve). Electronics are wired exactly like you’d find in the core DGT and in comparison, my SE sounds exactly like my Core DGT (almost exactly the same).
I am planning to buy this here in India, the actual price costs $1100. 65 but theyre giving me @$1027.27.
Great video! What do you think, is this SE Custom 24 better than the SE Silver Sky?
Is this neck thinner / slimmer than the average SE? Looking for a smaller neck for a student.
I just bought today a SE Standard 24-08, same but without the fancy maple veneer
This one vs yamaha pacifica 612 which one is better??
Juat bought this exact guitar today and it just felt amazing when i played it in the store
Looking forward to the 2024 SE Quilted Custom 24'!
I have PRS SE Custom 24 08 and a PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-hollow. Like you, I am a fan of the Wide Thin necks. So comfortable to play.
How can your hand slide with gloss good for bigginers
Hi is this Guitar easy to play for a complete beginner?
Just sold my American Ultra Strat to get this guitar.
I’m gonna buy soon but I was wondering “student edition.” What’s the story behind that name ? Very curious
Don't be scared off by that. The SE line is incredible, I play one on stage often. Thanks for watching!
It means its affordable for music students. That's all. Student = affordable cause students dont really have mojey
Nice guitar, had the same model once, but it was stolen!!Miss it every day!
Awesome review, hopefully this will be my next purchase!
Like it and I have one but pickups are not great imo
Btw, are you guys on Twitter?
I got a used one at a very good price and now is my favorite one
Looks good except those ugly pots
I have just bought one today from Swee Lee, the exact same model and colour.
What do you think of the pickups? The one I had really harsh spiky pickups so I sold it, but ironically just bought the same model today again 3 years later.....sure hope they remedied those harsh pickups (was awful).
How many price in India rupee
This will definitely be my first PRS.
Always a kick ass review guys! Keep up the good work!
Just got the PRS SE Custom 24 in Faded Blue. Sweet water is doing a PLEK on it too! Im super stoked. Thanks for the great review.
I got the blue se custom 24 from Sweetwater a wk ago. I don't think they NEED plekking. Mine doesn't. The playability is fantastic!!! And I saved money by buying the demo model!!!
@@calvinevans6347 AWESOME! I freaking love mine... Cheers!!!
I’m in the market for prs
Just ordered this in Bonnie Pink. She'll be here tomorrow.
Congrats enjoy!! Great choice
PRS guitars in my humble opinion suck so bad that I have stopped taking them in for setups and repairs at my shop. They are just cheap as they come. Finish, hardware, electronics, bridges, tuners, truss rod adjustments and truss rod covers. I hope I never see another one ever again. And don't go there because I have seen all models and all SUCK!!!!!!!!!! Sorry!
You clearly don't know guitars 😂
@@Goggalor1990 It's literally all I have done for the last 55 yrs. I am 71 and have worked with and played every brand of guitar. Was a guitar tech for some of the most well known guitarists on the planet. I beg your pardon. PRS guitars are the worst of the worst guitars to work on. I wouldn't have one if it were given to me free of charge.
@@ronaldgoebel2174ive never seen anyone talk like this about a guitar. You have a shop? And turn people away that have a prs? I dont believe you man.
@@astapovich940 Yep! And I just happened to have a guy who stopped by yesterday with a Custom 24 and all the string balls were stuck in the bridge holes so tight I had to get a small rod to go into the holes from the top and literally punch them thru with a hammer and that rod. I mean WTF! Come on PRS. I almost told him I wouldn't touch it but I broke down and did it for him cause he brings me a lot of other guitars but I told him I didn't want to work on it. Basically did it as a favor. $4700 guitar. Garbage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@ronaldgoebel2174 how could they be what they are if it was all junk as you say? Dont make sense!
I know you went over all the models last week. Any chance of doing a demo on an American made one?
Yes! S2 version on its way, Core to follow
That guitar sounds so good great guitars
Overall does it feel closer to a strat or les paul and did you have it set up to your specs after you received it. Did strings fret out action high? Been thinking of getting one for a long time. That would be gorgeous in the blue flame color..great demo 2thumbs up..
It was weirdly perfectly in between a Strat and LP. I really liked this guitar! It was different enough that it's worth owning, if that makes sense. I'm actually thinking about keeping this one haha. Our demo is straight out of the box, setup was perfect. Thank you!
@@PlayandTradeGuitars cool thank you. Been wanting one. Hard to buy without playing it first. Would love the blue. Does the se series come in blue? It seems you were having a lot of fun with it..thanks again. 2thumbs up
@@jameswilson3554 I just ordered it in Faded Blue Burst. Beautiful guitar. Gonna slap some USA tone/volume knobs on it when it gets here!
Not having the access panels recessed is a lazy omission, such a simple route, just poor design and execution, it is funny how simple details matter. At this price, I expect locking tuners too. So many excellent super strat options. I still need a lot of convincing before I would ever consider one.
