The beauty of this Choreography is amazing. The set up of the hula based around the waves and ocean surrounding the island of niihau and how they portray it with such precision is amazing to watch.
i heard of the hula before but never knew about the monarch competitions. the video with kumu mark doing mele for kauila was outstanding! i also live on an island and our culture has been lost and cast aside,much respect to all who take part in hula. keep the spirit alive.

too true. Mark had to leave Hawaii in order to grow and perpetuate the art of the Hula. The Hula Halau's here in Hawaii are much to political and clique. If Mark was still in Hawaii he would find it very difficult to find students let alone a place for his Halau
