Design a Simple, Efficient and Reliable Forward Converter

At 1.00 second, "Diodes could be used instead of forward and synchronous switches".
I can understand that secondary side switches can be replaced with Diodes.
But how u can replace forward main switch with a diode. Then how ON / OFF could be achieved?? Pls help me understand.
