    I have found that balancing a hard cover coffee table type book on one’s head while dancing will smooth everything out. This technique draws upon a skill most everyone has developed over the years if you ever carried an overfilled contained of liquid. Just be sure to tape the book shut as to not break the binding when it falls, which in the beginning it will, but not so much once you get the idea of how to move smoothly without even thinking about it. A book is a great tool.

    I learnt the inside and outside turns, which were difficult for me. Thank you for excellent instructions !

    Jo and Tim, this is an exceptionally good instructional series of videos for beginners and up.
    We in the North East use a little more lilt (sway) and toe drag to avoid the jerkyness of compression and extention, but, all regions have their suttle differences. Hope to see more from you. Oh, and love your accent.

    I really wish they would show the inside turn from the guy’s perspective
    It’s really hard to try mirror image when you are learning

    Some music is in 4/4 and some in 3/4. Will this work for both?

      No this step is actually an 8 count. 3/4 time will not work

    Nice explanation! Is this "leading" thing necessary? I mean can't the lady can just turn whenever she wants to?

    • @External2737
      @External2737 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is called back-leading. Only one person leads by convention (the "leader"); if both try to lead it results in a dance being more of a contest of wills that just doesn't work.

      @@External2737 Thanks, but no, the lady turning herself is just the lady turning herself, she's not leading the guy. So it's also not a contest of both leading, which of course would make no sense. It's also not a contest of wills, it's a contribution of wills. There's no problem with that, why would you think so? It works perfectly, it's called teamwork ;)

      @@musicalflow_skillslab Please take dance classes. Trust me, back leading can be bad. There is a reason in dance etiquette it is considered a no no until the gold level.

      @@External2737 Guess I'll consider this, thanks. Good classes are rare to find, from my point of view after >10 years of teaching experience. Do you have a recommendation?
