    Many years ago I was given on more or less permanent loan a Honda Superdream 250 to potter about London on. It had a full wrap around fairing. Just prior to this I had ridden another Superdream for three weeks without fairings. The difference in comfort was astonishing. I have been in favour of full fairings ever since. In wet weather or on the Motorway, the fairing came into its own. Naked bikes look great but they present mad profiles to the wind and aerodynamically they are a disaster.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      InTheNameOfJustice Having ridden naked bikes for so long and never felt it an issue, I was amazed about the difference. I would DEFINITELY lose my licence if I started riding around with a fairing!

      Captain Rambunctious
      Get a woman who can ride then when you lose your licence you can ride pillion with her. That way, you can break the law and swap whenever necessary. We simply cannot allow the Marxists in blue to stop our fun!
      Yoiks!

    The Sprint GT was the first full fairing sport bike I ever road. I loved it. What's so memorable about it is when I rode the DEMO model, they put brand new unbroken in tires on! The result was when I went around a corner, the bike briefly slide sideways! I don’t know how, but I returned it in one piece.

    Bought a new one of theese 5 weeks ago after riding a Thunderbird LT for a year, and i absolutely love it. So easy to throw it around anywhere and the side panniers hold one full face helmet each so no carrying around needed, which is great. When riding with a pillon it is stll easy to manouvre through slow moving traffic which is ideal as well. Only downside i would say is the vibration felt through the foot pegs if your sitting at around 4,500 rpm. Cant wait to gt on a road trip on it soon

    WOW what a coincidence. Was looking at this bike's specs in the morning only as I saw a triumph the other day which I did not know the name of and here comes your review about it. Great video as usual.

    We've never had a faired bike either. We're taking a whirl around New Zealand this AUS/NZ summer and your report, Captain Rambunctious, has convinced us. We've bought a 2013 Triumph Sprint GT (£4000 with panniers and topbox) to ship to Un Zed with 23 others (a full container) to arrive in Christchurch to tour the South Island. I've always liked the howl of the Laverda Jota 120 and the Triumph Sprint delivers same with technology at one quarter the price (forgiving the cred). "Cred" is a modern word meaning "street credibility". It roughly translates as acceptability among fashionable young urban people.

    Nice vid as usual sir....I love the Sprint, it was a red ST with white wheels that got me into biking in the first place, lovely looking machine I thought although they are getting a little long in the tooth now. For me the star of the show is that 1050 triple engine (I assume the same as I had in my old Tiger 1050) - lovely engine, sounds great and smooth as you like. I reckon you should buy one..... ;0)

    I've owned an 07 ST for 6 years, it was practically my first bike... I fell in love with it as soon as I rode it, but despite raising the bars and fitting a touring screen I simply find it too uncomfortable after a couple of hours. I don't want to lose the feel of the engine however and have just traded it in for a Tiger Sport...I'm anticipating nearly as much fun but without screaming shoulder and back ache!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that you'll find the new Tiger more fun! :-)
      I agree that a lean angle like that hurts if you have a fairing as the wind doesn't keep you upright...
      Thanks for watching and for the comment. :-)

  • @j6138
    @j6138 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello Sir! Did you get one? Three years on a Deau after Direct Access (late starter), and I traded in for a shiny new blue one of these beasties. Now with 9k in as many months and can confirm it is an excellent all-year round commuter with just top box, then throw panniers on for weekend fun. And what an engine!! Toodle pip old boy.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      j6138 I didn't I'm afraid! I couldn't trust myself or my licence with a faired bike! :-) It truly is an awesome bike. Thanks for watching and I apologise for the tardiness in my reply, TH-cam isn't notifying me of new comments at the moment for some reason! :-)
      TBH!

    Very nice bike for sure! Congrats on the 2k sir!!

  • @lurchonabike
    @lurchonabike 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I saved this in watch later as I didn't have the time when you released it as this is a bike that's on my potential next bike list.
    I got the Deau as I passed my test as I needed a bike under £2k or the insurance got silly as a new rider, and bought it to munch miles between jobs with my stuff, but always wanted something with a bit more, not that the Deau isn't a very capable bike for most day to day stuff, I do like it and it will be hard to give up.
    I was thinking Pan or RT, possibly Trophy, but as new, they're all around £14k, and the Trophy is very wide. The GT SE has a very similar luggage capacity, and it nearly £5k cheaper, just it doesn't have shaft drive (which I do like).
    I've not ridden a Sprint yet, but having seen this, I think I might need to go to the local Triumph folk. Last time I casually looked, the older GTs with all the luggage were still commanding a decent price, so depending on circumstances, a new one may make as much sense as a well specced older one as the SE only became standard in 2014, maybe late '13.
    Dash you Captain! This may cost me money!!!!
    Cheers!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lurch OnABike Brilliant! I hope that you at least try one. New, they are cheaper than the Tiger!! I was very impressed as you can probably tell!

    @richardseekins24 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I got a 2003 Sprint ST955i after test riding a GT. To be honest you wont notice much difference between them other than the price. The old ST's go on forever and ride really well I love mine. You can pick up a decent one for £2K easy. I have a new Street Triple too :)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Richard Seekins Now there's a jolly good thought! Thanks, I was sticking to the GTs as I thought they'd be a marked improvement over the ST, so thank you for your advice... I'll have a good look. Cheers!

    Captain, you mentioned that the legroom was slightly cramped. May I ask you how tall you are and what your inseam is? The Sprint GT is no longer available in the US, but I've been thinking about purchasing a low-mileage used one. It would replace my Yamaha YZF600R (Thundercat to you lot) for sport touring.

    I`ve just come across this vid, yes i know it`s 7 years late, but the vid before was one of the Missenden Flyer doing one of his used bike reviews, and he was reviewing a 2005 Sprint ST. I loved the bike, but have no room in my garage for one, alongside my Speed Twin, and Daytona 1000.

    Nice looking bike, and being a Triumph anyway just makes it cool right away, not keen on that particular blue but I wouldn't mind a ride myself on such a beast, either that or the Yamaha FJR1300R good vid bro RSM8.

    Beware of this bike! It might be the end of motorcycle sales in old Blighty- it certainly stopped me buying motorcycles...
    ... bought my '08 ST brand spankers; I haven't even looked at another bike since. (Not even a GT! ;-) )
    I used to travel home, Portsmouth to Glasgow, on weekends, all year round. 800 miles round trip, plus any distance I had to cover on the Saturday. Hell on wheels on lesser machines, but I couldn't wait for the week to finish so I could do it all over again!
    She took me through a blizzard on Rannoch Moor one time, didn't miss a beat.
    My wife and I have taken trips to the Hebrides and the North West of Scotland on her- two up with luggage for a week, all day comfortable but still goes, stops and handles like a sports bike in the twisties. Amazing.
    She's beautiful, comfortable, and handles like a dream. Best bike I've ever owned... :-)

      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @CaptainRambunctious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha! Yes... Its definitely overlooked as it isn't the genre of bike most are after these days, but as a workhorse for getting somewhere with ease, luggage and comfort, there isn't much better...

    The only sports tourer I have owned was a ZZR600 lovely bike, didn't like the win though and parts were expensive. I scratched the mirror on my garage wall and it cost £90 to replace because of the metallic paint.

    Great review, entertaining too :) Am I the only one to not notice what the 'real eye-opener' was during your ride (and repeated at the end of the video)?
    Even if I am, can you elucidate (note usage of Rambunctious-appropriate vocabulary...)?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent use of elucidate sir... :-)
      It was an eye opener because it was a lot faster, more comfortable and easy to ride than I had thought it would be. It looks like a heavy faired bike like the Trophy but it isn't... And it looks like it would be slow to turn in due to the longer wheelbase v the speed triple, but it wasn't... It was also the first faired bike I had ridden at that point and I had always shied away from them thinking they'd be heavy... That's what the real eye opener was to me...
      Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment...
      TBH!

    Heh, this area is where I test rode a Sprint ST, which I bought very shortly after. Did you borrow this GT from Hertfordshire Triumph by any chance?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @AngryPrawn
      @AngryPrawn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Captain Rambunctious I am absolutely infatuated with it.
      No serious issues as of yet, but I've only had it for 3 weeks. The right hand mirror vibrates a bit at speed. And my knees tend to hurt after a few hours with me being on the tall side at 6'3. That's all I can think of.
      I'm taking it touring up to Scotland in a couple of weeks, so if there are any major issues waiting to happen, they will no doubt happen then ;).

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AngryPrawn Cool, glad to hear it. Let me know! I'm 6'1" and was JUST perfect on it, so can imagine the taller rider being a bit cramped after a while... Have fun! :-)

      I'm afraid so, but you should therefore be able to get a good second hand one for less money but shouldn't depreciate so quickly as they are an excellent bike...

    Nice bike, yes. Splendid I dare say. Tried it myself, you know. But listen to your self. Not many laughs, no cheerful bursts...only "hmm, I like this". I'm not saying "bad bike" I'm only pointing out, is it really a bike for you? Here's an idea for a commutingbike. A used Tiger, lower it and put some Legend/Thunderbird bits on, like tank and seat and there you have a Scruffy Scrambler! :-)

      John Mård Ah yes! You've said that before! Oh I'm only having a bit of fun. I can't really afford this and also, it IS a bit too boring for me to be able to shout Tally Bally Ho! :-) Just happily enjoyed this as a machine for getting from a to b comfortably and at speed...

    I do like a good old fashioned faired sports tourer for eating miles compared to the popularity of adventure style tourers.
    Performance, practical, comfortable, and they look way prettier than an adventure style bike.
    Sorry for this but Honda has the better product with the VFR. Thanks for the review. Ride safe sir.

      Don't apologise! You are probably right but I haven't tried one myself... Is the engine as much fun in the Honda? I just don't know...
      Thanks for watching and for the comment! :-)
      And I agree with you, I had an adventure bike and have to say I prefer the look of these bikes too,...

      fisher boy I had one. Found them underpowered and underwhelming. The handling of the Triumphs blow them out of the water. But the chassis design is so old, it would! Excellent bikes for committing and being bullet proof as well... And cheaper. I see what you mean now. Yes, an alternative indeed! :-)

    Captain, MY SON, is OLDER than you. I'm that guy, who has been riding for 50yrs. I live in Long Beach, California.
    I''ve had a Harley StreetBob, for 5 and a half
    years.
    It's my FIRST American bike. It looks good. It SOUNDS GOOD, with 36,000 miles-on STOCK
    MUFFLERS.
    LOVE TWINS. I''ve had ONE Multi cylinder. It was my third BMW, a K75s.
    I told you earlier, you''re MY FAVORITE Blogger, because of THE MUSIC.
    You have to excuse my STUPID TELEPHONE.
    LOVE music. How'bout some JAZZ?
