    Dr. Abdullahi An-Naim is Charles Howard Candler Professor of Law, Emory University, USA, Emeritus. He graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Khartoum in 1970 and earned his master’s in law from the Cambridge University, England, in 1973, and PhD in law from University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1976. He served as Lecturer and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Khartoum (1976-85), Visiting Professor at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA, 1985-87), College of Law, University of Saskatchewan, Canada 1988-90) and Uppsala University, Sweden (1991-92). He was Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, Africa, (1993-95) before joining Emory University as Professor of Law (1995-2022). All his books and articles are in English, but a few were translated and published in Arabic. An-Naim is the author of: Decolonizing Human Rights (Cambridge UP, 2021); What is an American Muslim (Oxford University Press, 2014); Muslims and Global Justice (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2011); Islam and the Secular State (Harvard University Press, 2008).
