Shake n bake is essentially fine bread crumbs mixed with seasonings. Boxed meals like the pasta side are made to "simplify" your cooking. I usually will create my own once I try a dish, although ranch seasoning is one I have yet to blend good I will buy it🙂 You can rub mayo, mustards, oils or yogurt on the meat before adding the seasonings. This helps keep meat moist and helps the seasonings to adhere to the meat. Hubby loves lemon n herb chicken, I will add lemon juice to olive oil to coat the chicken, while that marinates, I mix a lemon zest, garlic & onion powder, Parmesan cheese, S&P with fine bread crumbs. Cover the chicken with the homemade shake and bake. I don't care for lemon so I make mine with plain olive oil and the seasonings before adding the lemon zest. Tip- when cooking or baking have a decent sized bowl to put garbage in, when full you can toss the compostable material in compost and the rest into trash can. Keeps garbage from being everywhere and you don't have to keep finding a spot out of your way ❤Another great 'Not A Cooking Show'!❤
I agree with you guys, shake n bake is very good & was fun to make when I was a kid. My mom made chicken or pork chops for many dinners growing up & I got to shake the bag to coat the meat & we would start laughing & dancing in the kitchen. It was always very good & was a fast meal for my mom to make for us. She was such a fantastic southern cook just like my grandmother & all my aunts. I think Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing is the most famous & popular over the other brands of ranch dressing & they also make Dip also & you can use the powder in many ways like mixed in with mashed potatoes & butter & some sour cream some bacon bits or however you like. Or shake the chicken or pork chops into the ranch powder, they have big containers here with hidden valley ranch seasoning so you can sprinkle it on something or pour it to make whatever you want. I love it mixed in mashed potatoes with butter & sour cream & chopped bacon so you see it's good on anything you can imagine. Adding the grape tomatoes & the greens was a great idea which you could probably tear up some chicken into the pasta salad & it would be good also. My niece cubes up cheese, cucumbers & pepperoni or summer sausage into pasta salad & it's really good too. Great job & i instantly got hungry watching how good this looked, americans love ranch & hidden valley is the most popular & best tasting. I never buy the pre made dressing in the bottles i always make it fresh from the ranch powder it tastes so much better. 😋🍗🥗😂💜🙏👏

Just some tips to make clean up easier line the baking tray with aluminum foil and spritz the rack with cooking spray. Also to cut down on the sodium content the package directions no longer tell you to salt pasta water. I recommend salting the pasta water anytime you’re boiling pasta or egg noodles even if the package directions don’t tell you to and you will have much better tasting noodles, pasta salad and mac and cheese.
I love the old commercials from shake n' bake from back in the day! They are so neat to watch. I have not had this since I was a kid. I will have to grab some at the store this week.

I used to work at the plant where Shake ‘n Bake was made. I ordered the ingredients that went into the products. All the varieties are good. I haven’t used them in years. The pork one is really good in my opinion if you eat pork.
Hi from another Carol! Never feel bad about using boxed meals/seasonings. we all do it and always have some items on hand! Love all the Shake n Bakes and the boxed pasta salads, love being able to add other stuff to them when I have the time or want to change up the flavors a little. A trick I do is to use a flavor of salad dressing that will complement the flavor of the coating mix you are using, to brush/roll the meat item in before putting it the bag to shake. It adds a little more flavor and really gets the crumbs to stick. And with the buffalo style, I will use a hot sauce or buffalo wing sauce on the chicken first , then into the bag with the crumbs!
Shake and Bake for me, is good for a quick meal. But I do of course prefer doing things from scratch. It is tasty though. Love watching you "not cook", on your "not a cooking show". 😂
I was making supper for the family. I started to make gravy from the meat drippings and found I was out of flour. Dang! We lived in the country, so I checked my cupboards. I saw we had some pork Shake 'n Bake, so I used that as the thickener for my gravy. It was so good. It became one of my daughter's favorites.
It is nice to hear the Swedish accent again. A family of Swedes had a farm near my great aunt and uncle's farm. When I was a young boy I was fascinated by the way they talked. Gosh I haven't had Shake and Bake since the 70s. I'm surprised they still make it and you can get it in Sweden. Have you seen the American commercial from the 70s? It is hilarious.
Shake and Bake works well with a bowl that has a tight lid. I just make my own now with bread crumbs, dry buffalo seasoning. Those pasta boxes tend to have more sauce/dressing than I like so I add more pasta. Thing is, regular pasta cooks slower than what is in those boxes, so you have to time it right. Not sure why I'd put leaves in pasta salad, it wilts too fast so leftovers aren't that good, but hey, whatever works for you! Buffalo seasoning/sauces typically are vinegar based.
I just love your kitchen and dinning room. It's so bright and cheerful. Oh, I am not sure if you have the Alexa thing upstairs, but if you do, just say "Alexa set an 11 minute timer." I love doing that. It is doing multiple timers at the same time.

Italians say to drain your pasta, but never rinse it. They also say to reserve the pasta water and use it in soups, to steam veggies, to thin pasta sauce if it gets too thick, to use when making gravies, etc. Just a few ideas for you…

You need to make a Buffalo chicken sandwich …toast the bread add Buffalo chicken, lettuce , tomato, onion and use tzatziki sauce. The sauce is a great way to counter the spicy Buffalo chicken.

Try oven fried Chicken parm. Just flour, egg wash, breadcrumbs and bake it. Then add cheese and sauce once chicken is cooked and back in the oven until metled.
Pasta Salad in America typically doesn’t include actual salad leaves like arugula. BUT since you made the buffalo shake and bake, next time you should add the cut up chicken to the pasta salad. We dip our buffalo wings in ranch so I bet it would be delicious.

It would cost a fortune if I made my Pasta Salad now, with the cost of things. Use tricolor rotini, yello onions, carrots, radishes, black and green olives, a white cheese and orange cheese, pepperoni. Find the best looking Italian Dressing. Right before serving add grated Parmesan and Texas size crotons. NOW I want some. Making adult spaghettios today and tossed salad. Glad you love the new things. Recky I was waiting for the spice reaction 😊.You can cut the chicken off the bone and mix it into the ranch before you eat it.That cuts down on the spiciness but still leaves some flavor.If you get various restaurant size spice containers you can make your own mixes too.

Please note that, even though you will see these foods on American groceryshelves, they’re not necessarily staple foods for every family. In fact, I know no one in my family who uses either one, and even though I don’t check out everyone’s food choices when I’m at the grocery store, I don’t see these items in anyone’s grocery carts or at the checkout stand when they’re paying for their foods.

I loved Shake & Bake but can't eat it anymore since I had to go gluten-free, but it was tasty. I hate ranch dressing, but love pasta, so I get the love for pasta (thankfully, there are some good GF pastas).

We like the Extra Crispy Shake n Bake. I add Kinders Onion Butter seasoning, Lawry’s Garlic Salt, and pepper before coating the chicken.

I went to the store last weekend and a box of Shake and Bake was over $4 a box so I bought some seasoned bread crumbs instead.

Many styles of bbq are vinegar based, so it's common to smell the vinegar. It's my personal preference. 🙂

I haven’t made Shake n Bake in years. You make it sound so delicious. Guess I’ll have to add it to my shopping list. I will say I was at the grocery store yesterday and spent way too much time deciding what flavors of Knorrs rice or pasta to try. I kept wondering if they were ones that you two have. 😂. I love original shake & bake chicken and pork.
It's spicy and smells like vinegar because the seasoning is the buffalo sauce that you would put on hot wings
Carol, no need to be 'prim and proper' with coated chicken. It is meant to be eaten with your hand. When I am at the grocery store, I always stock up on Shake n Bake. I'm sure you will have some more sent to you soon! 😀😀
Please note that, even though you will see these foods on American groceryshelves, they’re not necessarily staple foods for every family. In fact, I know no one in my family who uses either one, and even though I don’t check out everyone’s food choices when I’m at the grocery store, I don’t see these items in anyone’s grocery carts or at the checkout stand when they’re paying for their foods.

When you shake your chicken pieces, shake them two at a time then they'll all be covered adequately.

interesting. It's been about 50 years since I had Shake n' Bake chicken.
I loved Shake & Bake but can't eat it anymore since I had to go gluten-free, but it was tasty. I hate ranch dressing, but love pasta, so I get the love for pasta (thankfully, there are some good GF pastas).
From my perspective, this is a very fun video. Thank you for sharing your new discoveries. be careful thou as you try new North American "fast food" alternatives. We have weight issues for a reason.
