I bought one of your rolled Buffalo leather strop, this is an outstanding strop made of the highest quality one of the best strops I have found and I have several of them. This strop was shipped from Hong kong and was at my house in 5 days. Your shipping is outstanding because you fly it to America and it gets here very fast. I am a very satisfied customer and will by from you again
Question: when will you start having a European warehouse, love to get a strop, but paying the price of a full strop on shipping just to get it makes it very expansive (25 euro shipping)?
Hi Ryky. Just received my new strop from you last week. I went with the orange nortons diamond compound which is about 3000 gtit. Still new to sharpening and hoping this will help me on my journey. I have the unimi whetstone 400-1000 (which i believe is just another name for whetstone brand on amazon) and now your rolled buffalo. Its a very nice strop. Thank you for all u do. Very inspiring.
I can't tell you how much I love you video. I woke up, fed the cats, and made coffeee for me, and lunch for my wife to take to work. Then I come check out TH-cam. I check out your video. Carbon fiber strop? That's the most useless over kill I've ever seen. I WANT IT! You're killing me here Ryck.
If you really think about it, stropping is a medium, a ways to an end, our ability to communicate ideas and think, should never hold us back from achieving our goals, Continue Dude!
When will you being doing rope test on Victorinox Fibrox? I am wanting to purchase a knife and waiting to see how it holds up against the other knive's on the rope test, and your opinion of it. I am a big fan of yours and America's Test Kitchen. Thank you.
Aw bummer about the cf, you know how much I love those. If you ever decide to do another limited run of those please let me know. In the meantime I might need to pick up one of the latest versions :)
Still loving your videos however I’m still confused on when a strop is needed, when is a compound needed on said strop and where does a whetstone fall into the order of things. Obviously I’m very new to sharpening but I’m not giving up and trying to learn as much as possible. Thank you for any advice
A strop can be used as a final step to polish the edge, remove the burr, and refine the apex at a microscopic level. They also work great to touch up an already sharp edge after each use. But while strops are great for maintaining an edge, the steel at the apex will eventually weaken and the knife will require sharpening.
QUESTION As I live in middle eastern Europe it would be hard to buy one of the strops provided by you, and so I was thinking of making one myself. I can't really find buffalo leather (not mentioning more premium ones). My question is whether a strop made from cow leather would work similarly? Also what would be the optimal thickness (2-2,5, 3-3,5 or 4-4,5 mm)?
Hi Ryky. I recently ordered the premium equine leather strop on the polycarbonate base. But mine did not come with the silicone pads as shown in the video and as mentioned in the description on your website. I was hoping to receive some assitance with this as I would like to have silicone pads on the base. Thank you in advance!!
Brand new to the quality kinfe game. I own 3 benchmade knives, 2 with S30V and 1 with S90V. What do you recommend i get? Strop & compound to help maintain an edge. Also until i watched this video i didn't even know that a compound was needed. I'm very new.
Have you tried dog leather ? It was used in the early days of printing (Gutenberg old) because of its non-porous surface, which is ideal for applying ink on presses and not losing any ink in the material itself. Not sure were one could source it today, though.
Question, I sharpen wood carving knives. they have a true scandinavia grind, no microbevel. I want a strop that does not compress and cause edge rounding, what would you recommend? thank for all the great videos!
Question: I just got a cerax 1000/3000 combo stone and the 1000 side has some scratches on the surface. Should I clean this up with the cleaning stone or does it matter? Thanks.
Hey, just bought one of your 10 inch rolled buffalo strops and it just arrived. Looks great and cant wait to test it out tonight after work, just wanted to thank you personally for taking the time to do the research and make a great product! Quick question, would you recommend wetting or oiling the leather to use without a compound or just use it dry? I may test some compounds out later, but for now I only have the one to test with. Thanks again!
its about time.....love the polished edges. hope its thick enough! under certain weather conditions plexi tends to warp. plus having a glued leather piece to it might.....might give the base a slight twist over time. I am just throwing this out there....grain of salt thought. not all plexi is created equal. friend of mine uses 3/4 in. plexi cause the 1/2 in. curved over time..... he is using the cheap stuff, not the name brand stuff. now for the kicker......he loves his delrin made strop. very stable
it helps maintain the edges of the leather longer, over time. and, because leather can warp during the cutting, i went a couple of mm wider on each side, to offset those issues.
not really. you aren't supposed to apply much pressure when stropping, but i'm sure under constant strain, in whatever application, all materials flex and give
Billy Maze here with my new product that you will just have to buy, it’s a strop!! J/k good video and good product. I like the rolled buffalo I got from u. Great strop seems like it will last a lifetime.
So i followed links to the website and it was so confusing i Have no idea which one to chose can you simplify it for beginners id love to buy a strop but I got annoyed etsy was so confusing just letting you know
go for the rolled buffalo. super strong and flat and it's what i use for my personal knives www.etsy.com/listing/579251212/rolled-buffalo-premium-leather-strop?ref=listings_manager_grid
😔 shame the shipping costs the same amount as the product. Ends up being $82.54 AU for a strop 😔 really want one but cant bring myself to pay the same price as the product on shipping.
i know it's a pain..... if you go with the order, i'll hook you up with something really nice to make up for the pricey shipping charges. just put "REMEMBER SOMETHING NICE" in the notes.
Question: Ryky I am struggling to strip effectively on a strip I got from you. It’s really thin or skinny. How would you approach stripping on such a skinny strip with a longer chef knife
not to say yours arent superb, but a lot depends on style and once you add compound you can experiment with different surfaces and substrates. my favourite is bit of MDF wood with some denim stapled on and some diamond paste on the denim. works well for me....give it a go guys.
Awesome vids, enjoy your stuff, glad you think outside the box, try marine epoxy, as part of a substrate for use with different materials, Like the fact that you experiment. that adhesive works well with clamping pressure allows you use more materials that you wouldn't normally consider , example, thinner, more cost effective, response to hand pressure, etc.,
Well, it was awesome. I think in simple terms so had never even thought of using carbon fiber but it does make an great base for anyone that has concerns about warping of other materials due to moisture content in the air, dramatic fluctuations in temperature, or just doesn't want to have to worry about glass breaking. Previous comment was not meant to seem as harsh criticism. Maybe you could try making a leather belt strop like most use for straight razors, they're very simple and effective.
Just discovered your channel. And already subscribed. After watching part of this video I went straight to find your website. And checked out the store. Sadly seems all your strops are sold out. Will they become available again? Hope you will continue to sell them. As they do look like good quality.

Great to hear!
I remember when you started this channel, you have come along way grasshopper, keep up the good work
doing my best.
Great! Thanks Ryky for the continued search for the perfect strop.
Thank you for taking the time. This is just what I was looking for!

will have more CF plates in a few weeks. will save one for you. haha. it's overkill but hey, nothing wrong with it, as long as you use it
Don't save me one, but I'm thinking about. Have to hide it from my wife.
Why did you not put two legs in the middle to support the strop at the place where there’s going to the most pressure on a elevated base.
the adhesive tape should cover the entire leather area. leaving thicker tape in the center will droop the sides leaving uneven top surface?
the plexi looks really refined man.
Love these strops, Ryky. Have the rolled buffalo and Latigo that I actually made my own bases for. Love using them
If you really think about it, stropping is a medium, a ways to an end, our ability to communicate ideas and think, should never hold us back from achieving our goals, Continue Dude!
the clear polish on these looks frikking great.
to a bit to fancy for me.
wud is gud
Received my rolled buffalo the other day. It’s freaking fantastic. Don’t even need a compound on it.

I’ve been waiting for this also.
Aw bummer about the cf, you know how much I love those. If you ever decide to do another limited run of those please let me know. In the meantime I might need to pick up one of the latest versions :)
i'm making more in 3-4 week? will have one reserved for you.
Burrfection you’re the best!

Matthew M thanks a lot mate, sorry for such a late answer. Gonna do just that
Matthew M I'm from Poland mate:)
Matthew M not until you mentioned him just now but he seems great

all strops sold out?
Ahh... I was wondering where all the CF went. Should have got one when I had the chance! I ordered a rolled buffalo one. Can't wait!
Brand new to the quality kinfe game. I own 3 benchmade knives, 2 with S30V and 1 with S90V. What do you recommend i get? Strop & compound to help maintain an edge. Also until i watched this video i didn't even know that a compound was needed. I'm very new.
Question: is it fine to use the rolled buffalo strop without any compound?
thanks~
either is fine. if you want very specific polish levels, go with compounds. if you not, naked it fine.
nice~ thanks
Have you tried dog leather ? It was used in the early days of printing (Gutenberg old) because of its non-porous surface, which is ideal for applying ink on presses and not losing any ink in the material itself.
Not sure were one could source it today, though.
Coyote's? plentiful and very few land owners have qualms over killing them.
Have you experimented with balsa wood with compound at all?
Question, I sharpen wood carving knives. they have a true scandinavia grind, no microbevel. I want a strop that does not compress and cause edge rounding, what would you recommend? thank for all the great videos!
Are we ever going to get a video on stripping compounds? I would love to get your opinion on good compounds!
Question: I just got a cerax 1000/3000 combo stone and the 1000 side has some scratches on the surface. Should I clean this up with the cleaning stone or does it matter? Thanks.
Acrylic can shatter, try finding PolyCarbonate(PC). It can also shatter, but it's a lot stronger then Acrylic.
burrfection strops 5.0 PC stops!

Hey ryky love your videos. Can u update us on the diy strop you made with the micro film like how long it last and till what Rockwell it can sharpen?
its about time.....love the polished edges. hope its thick enough! under certain weather conditions plexi tends to warp. plus having a glued leather piece to it might.....might give the base a slight twist over time. I've had one for years that I made myself and it has never warped. Even if they did warp they're cheap to replace if you make them yourself.
This is a sharp video!😜💓
Will this work for shaving straight razor?
ARE THE 12" OPTIONS WIDER AS WELL??? I WAS LOOKING AT IT AND IT SEEMS SO. They look very nice by the way
12" are 3 " wide. , so yeah, lots of real estate kit.com/Burrfection
Good Video, Have you tried the King k-80 combo whetstone?
Why the decision to not have the leather run to the edges of the base?
it helps maintain the edges of the leather longer, over time. and, because leather can warp during the cutting, i went a couple of mm wider on each side, to offset those issues.
Acrylic can warp over time though, have yyou experienced this yet?
not really. you aren't supposed to apply much pressure when stropping, but i'm sure under constant strain, in whatever application, all materials flex and give
Do you still have the carbon fiber ones for 35.00.
Billy Maze here with my new product that you will just have to buy, it’s a strop!!
J/k good video and good product. I like the rolled buffalo I got from u. Great strop seems like it will last a lifetime.
love it. is he still alive?
Burrfection no. He died like 10 plus years ago
acrylic is not tougher than carbon fibre. other than that loved the video.
So i followed links to the website and it was so confusing
i Have no idea which one to chose
can you simplify it for beginners
id love to buy a strop but I got annoyed
etsy was so confusing just letting you know

Question: Ryky I am struggling to strip effectively on a strip I got from you. It’s really thin or skinny. How would you approach stripping on such a skinny strip with a longer chef knife
*strop
what did you get? 16"?
not to say yours arent superb, but a lot depends on style and once you add compound you can experiment with different surfaces and substrates.
my favourite is bit of MDF wood with some denim stapled on and some diamond paste on the denim. works well for me....give it a go guys.
are you still selling?
Awesome vids, enjoy your stuff, glad you think outside the box, try marine epoxy, as part of a substrate for use with different materials, Like the fact that you experiment. that adhesive works well with clamping pressure allows you use more materials that you wouldn't normally consider , example, thinner, more cost effective, response to hand pressure, etc.,
I still have hope you'll make them in smaller sizes for guided systems lol
what sizes exactly? i can look into it
1in by 4in is what the kme uses, that i use. Alot of people use the edge pro and hapstone that are 1in by 6in if I'm not mistaken
Where can I get the leather you use?
Looks like Shapton Glass but strop.
Finally. The most obvious solution. Can't believe you went to carbon fiber before acrylic.
rookie mistake.......
Well, it was awesome. they will be back in a few days
FUK, I just blindly ordered a glass dbl hide yesterday ..... :(
this dudes strops start at 40 dollars. how is that the cheapest?
Pretentious much?
Why would carbon fibre make a good strop? Carbon fibre is a cloth-like material
