It's not only sexual harassment as well. It's also people who harass cosplayers for not being in shape or that you're on the heavy side as well. They'll say "oh you're not skinny enough to cosplay as that character" and the list goes on. Like cosplay is meant for fun! It's supposed let you escape you're reality and be someone who you're not for the day and then you have punks who kill your mood.
I know right! Cosplaying is a community for people to come together and socialize and have fun. Not to be put down about their looks and any sort of that matter
Drangon Knight this is why you need a bouncer to get rid of the undesirables at the door. Also no one without a skimpy costume should be allowed in. Anyone below a 7 should also be booted without a seconds notice. Also, only couples, that way less creepers. Did you know 1 in 5 cosplayers are assaulted? honestly its just too much of a pain to go to these tumbrized special snow flake attention whoring cons now.
My friend, who was Sebastian Michealis from Black Butler, got glomped by this Harley Quinn girl. At the moment he was just like woah what the f. After she left tho, he grabbed me and was like ''I really hated that...'' So please. DONT COME RUNNING UP TO COSPLAYERS, OR ANYONE, AT FULL SPEED AND GLOMP THEM IF YOU DONT KNOW THEM
and for people who don't know what glomping is, it's basically like yeeting onto someone while hugging them, a hug-attack basically. It can catch them off guard, cause them to fall, it's extremely inappropriate to do to someone you don't know, and can easily damage delicate parts of a cosplayer's costume.
Whenever I cosplay At Every Otakon I always catch myself protecting other male or female cosplayers from harassment and inappropriate conduct. I just wish people had enough respect to give us out personal space when we agree to photos. It's never okay to rub on us or touch us inappropriately.
I am waiting on some extremeist saying "OMG MEN DONT EXERIENCE THIS CUS ONLY WOMEN DO" and if you believe this then honestly, go away. I am male and I have experienced unwanted sexual behaviour at a con. I was cisplaying Kaneki Ken meaning that a lot of my body was on show (but not a massive amount). I had multiple cases of women wolf whistling me and one even ran up to me and asked me for a lap dance. I did not want this at all. I diagreed with both but yet thry continued. Men get harrassed too. But overall, dont be an asshole at a con. Respect everyone. We go out there in cosplay to have fun and if we get harrassed it becomes hell. Thank you Nerdcalibre for making this video. It is really needed. :)
+Caleb Dickie It is odd man. Cosplaying as a male Harley I've had one take a photo of my ass, and had it touched another. It's sad, people think it's okay to treat people like the way they treat you. How do people not know how to respect fellow people?
Love that you are getting this out there. Too many apparently feel like they can do whatever they want with people and it is just not ok. It's not hard to ask first and it is the respectful thing to do.
At my very first convention I was dressed up as Rima Touya from Vampire Knight, so I wore a school uniform. The day was great, but when me and my friend walked back to our hotel a car came from behind and got slower. We were walking on the street and we thought that he wants to get through so we seperated. My friend walked on one side of the street and I walked on the other side. The car drove between us (I was walking on the drivers side) and the window went down. There was a very creepy and very old man with long, scruffy, grey hair inside the car. He held a bouquet out of the window and said one of the flowers would be for me. I tried to ignore him and moved to the wall of the building next to the street. Luckily there were big plant pots between the street and the sidewalk so he couldn't come nearer. He asked if I were afraid of him and said that I shouldn't be. I still ignored him so he gave up and disappeared around a corner. I was never that scared in my life.
4:05 monster hunter cosplay!!!! Such a rarity! But yeah, people do lack common sense and I'm sure there are those that are waaaaaaaaaaay into anime that when the see a anime cosplay they love.....they forget that that's a real person and not the character they want to get close to....
I got stalked in a steven universe cosplay, so it just goes to show that it's not always what's showing. Even like the iron man in the beginning, he's not showing much skin and he's been harassed, so it's not just girls or people showing skin, it's ANYONE.
9:43 someone was calling out the cosplayer when she was doing the interview, im done with people being disrespectful towards cosplayers , sexual harassment is also a crime it doesn't matter if you're in a con , you're doing something wrong , I'm so proud that cosplayers stay strong in situations like theses
here's a tip for non-cosplayer, just because i cosplay as tobi doesn't mean you can poke my one eye hole without consent, all because i have one eye hole.
I once saw a girl get her butt smacked by another girl dressed up as Mei at a con. The poor girl looked so uncomfortable while the Mei girl yelled that her ass was nice. I should have said something but I didn't realize the significance of a act like that to that girl. I know now and I'll speak up if I ever see anything.
Glad to see this Cosplay isn't Consent. Spreading awareness that creepy stares aren't appropriate is so needed and will spin off into other areas of society. Like they mentioned, its not just a problem in the cosplay arenas. So, we all need to work together to wise dudes up. I work in lactation and help mothers to breastfeed their babies. Mothers have the legal right to breastfeed in public but for dudes to stare at a breastfeeding mother is plain wrong! Nursing a baby isn't an invitation.
I was cosplaying as Sora from Kingdom Hearts when someone grabbed my necklace and then I took their hand off of me and then said “Please don’t touch a cosplayer without permission because cosplay is not consent.” and he backed off when I let go of his hand.
this topic actually really hits home with me... we live in a world where women get told not to get raped rather than tell men not to rape , and it's really a bad thing especially in the cosplay world. whereas a woman could be wearing something a little more showy, it does not mean that she is that person in real life and gives you full consent. notice I'm using female pronouns because this normally happens to females not to be sexist or anything but it's primarily women that have to watch out for this sort of thing. the society that we're living in teaches men and women that people can't dress for themselves. They have to dress for other people around them. cosplay is not consent is a beautiful movement, that only tackles part of the issue in this world
I know this is old but "tell boys not to rape" is on web of the most sexist things if seen, it's all about women problems, poor women, sweet you got offended send that dirty make to prison
If you have to say ''not to be sexist or anything" before you say something it's mostlikely going to be extremely sexist. This is you consciously realizing to yourself it is without fulling admitting it. Go to enough con's and girls can be the worst offenders of what you're talking about, randomly running up to male characters they like and hugging them etc, I even seen girls flat out get them a nice handful of guy's asses. Right now even, Momokun (Famous female cosplayer) is getting in trouble for this sort of thing. As to men being raped, of course you don't hear about it alot, because in a world where you are always painted as the perpetrator of something you can never be the victim. We don't hear about it alot, because men don't report it alot, in half because of other men and inhalf because of people with mentalities like yours making it difficult for them. Ultimately, every adult human being has the personal responsibility to keep themselves safe, it's not on the state, or the venue or on the government, its on you, that's why you're aloud to get the legal privilages of an adult, because you are thought to be able to handle them and have personal responsibility for yourself. You're not a child that needs to be protected from every single thing by big brother government. You're fully able to protect yourself, that's why we lock our doors at night and that's why we don't drink to much when we drive.
Example. I cosplay as Spiderman. I love Spiderman and I always have. I'm a little bit bigger and I know that. So I don't need people saying "oh you're to fat to be Spiderman" well clearly your mother or father or whoever raised you didn't teach you to be nice and respect what people are enjoying. You don't see me coming up to people and saying "oh spider Gwen is skinny! You're to big! Or batman isn't that skinny batman has huge muscle and whatnot" I respect cosplayers male and female
+Theamazing spideyguy They have every right to say you're to fat to be Spiderman. They shouldn't touch you or follow you around, but they have every right to say one remark to you while you are passing by.
+Ron Johnson yes, they have the right but still manners and just being a decent human being is still at play here. Obviously the guy knows if he's heavy and doesn't exactly fit the Spiderman mold. But if he is comfortable wearing the costume and it brings him some happiness to dress up that way hey more power to him. Problem is society sucks and everyone likes to put others down because they could give two fucks how it makes someone else feel.
ManMonkey600 But he's running Spiderman's image. Spiderman is a hero to a lot of young kids. Same reason a non-virgin shouldn't be allowed to cosplay as Princess Jasmine, Kitana, or Hinata.
I'm not sure if you're a troll or dead serious with these comments. But you're showing a prime example of harassment in the way you speak. Got news for you: Spiderman isn't real! He's a cartoon. This cosplayer isn't ruining anything for the kids. Most kids will go, "okay, that's someone in a costume" not "OMG! What happened?" And your comments about "non-virgins" is disgusting. You seem to be the kind of person that needs to tear down others to make yourself feel better, and that's the real sad part of it all.
Someone hit on me, when I dressed up as Fairy Vriska, and he was like 28-40 years of age. He called me an angle and I was ready to fucking punch in the mouth. Btw this all took place in Salem Mass during the Witch feast.
So he called you an angel and you wanted to punch him in the throat? So tell me, has Isis excepted ur application yet or are you still waiting on a response?
I remember cosplaying once as Mo-Tan from Etotama, Mo-tan shows a lot of skin so I was walking with my friends who were dressed as the other characters from the series, some walked up to me and groped my breasts he walked away after. I had no clue what happened my friends were gobsmacked one of them already taking a picture of the man to tell security. I've been pretty cautious, I was in my teens around that time.
hi! i'd like to share my experience with the whole 'cosplay is not consent' thing. last year at a con, i was dressed as madoka kaname and this older guy (he looked around 30- i was 13 for reference) came over to me and asked to take a picture of me laying down on a bench in a provocative pose. i agreed, not realizing what it meant. i got him to delete the picture, but i still feel disgusting. like that picture defines me in that guys head. i can't think of that con without remembering it. cosplay is not consent. especially with children.
I really wanna cosplay as Seychelles from Hetalia because I don't need to do a lot to change how I look. I already have brown hair and eyes but I'm afraid that if I do, nobody would recognize me and insult me :c
gorge washingmachine yay another Hetalian!!! You could be Seychelles if you want to be Seychelles: after all, to a true Hetalian, she is very recognizable!
Very eye opening. I love cosplay myself and I enjoy going to conventions just as much as the next fan. We go to enjoy ourselves and express our love for geek culture. Stay safe everyone
So im not that experienced in cosplay but this is such a issue my first con was a small one just down town in a convention center. I was 12 at the time and one of the activitys was to make a felt cat ear head band. I of cource was like hell ya ill do that. I was also dressed as dead Marco( more of just terrible fake freckles and dark eye bags) from aot so not the cutest look. But walking out laughing with my sister some guys sitting on the curb yelled one comment which just kinda crushed me in the moment which was "ill pet that kitty" while he then whistled and laughed with friends. It crushes your spirit and made me feel incredibly uncomfortably i quickly took off my head band and walked faster. You shoudnt have to feel that way when your just trying to have fun and do something you enjoy.
i can remember when i cosplayed Yoko from Gurren Lagann last year at a con and i had a group of people came up to me and said a few things that made me feel a lil strange and i have had a lot of people do some of the same things. i also have a few friends that are in a cosplaying group and they all look so cute in their cosplay.... but the girls like to wear dresses and i have seen guys try to take pics up the girls skirts i had a guy try to do that to me one time and i had to call the con staff to get involved.
I was at a convention as Ryuko and my friend was Mako from Kill La Kill. We were standing on the escalators trying to get to an anime meet-up, and these two hooligans started looking up our skirts and leaving comments. We were both too scared to say anything, but a Deadpool stepped in and helped us out.
yo when i was a kid i fucking hated walking by cosplay places i thought people looked super creepyxD im all up against my mom hiding from anime characters XD
I'm so scared of these situations that I'm even afraid to show my midriff. This coming Otakon, I have to cosplays that reveal my midriff (not even in a sexy way) but I'm still nervous.
What you wear should kind of have a psychological impact on how you think of them. It's not even gender based either- Imagine a girl in a flowing gown. and now think of a man dressed in rags. I bet you thought of settings to put them in as well- The girl in a castle or something, with the guy in an alleyway.
All of these are true. I'm terrified of people just randomly touching me. Even if it's just a hug. I understand some people get excited about seeing a really good cosplay of their favorite character, but they have to realize personal space is a thing.
I'm glad they mentioned that guys can get assaulted too like I've seen so many guy cosplayers get rubbed down by complete strangers and that's not right, we gotta protect our guy and girl cosplays
Alright, I know that touching a stranger or just hugging them without asking is bad but how about roleplay when they're cosplaying characters from the save show or game? When I was on a con this year I cosplayed Levi Ackerman from Shingeki no kyojin and the people who cosplayed Eren, Hanji, Erwin or other characters from SNK weren't that nice as I thought they will be.. I was expecting nice behaviour and that they will be glad to see cosplayers from snk as I was but they didn't even smile at me, hug me or anything.. It dissapointed me.. People should be more roleplaying..
not everyone likes roleplaying. Most cosplayers don't role-play while cosplaying. You just need to respect that and not expect people to hug you. Its harsh to say but they're not automatically required to be your friend just because you're cosplaying from the same series.
+Shadower1337 cosplay is dressing up to have fun and look like a character. if your talking about the free cosplayers they are cosplaying. they look like the characters, they are cosplayers
You know, there IS a day dedicated to the cosplayers where sex offenders will be indoors so no creepy stuff. Did I mention you can get FREE candy in your own neighborhood? Its called Halloween. October 31st.
I am a older cosplayer but I look way younger then I am and so most people think I am younger. I have had problems like this in two fandoms. Hetalia and My little pony. I cosplayed Prussia and the fangirls got crazy to the point I was groped, kissed without my consent and even had a Russia cosplayer try to undress me! Within the my little pony fandom I was stalked/ sexually harrassed/ followed into a bathroom/even threatened because I didn't wear the costume the guy wanted me too.
The only thing about cosplay that i'm really worried about (because I have to go with my dad,) is that people are going to come up to me and say I look like a girl. I'm going to be dressing as a boy, and I'm trans, so that's one of the things im dreading...
I don't understand why people believe that they can touch people inappropriately at conventions. You are in an environment, where people are dressed as characters that may have revealing costumes. You are at a convention. Not a strip club. Be respectful of the person and how they feel.
Those are some awesome cosplays. I've never had a situation like this but I know that this might happen so that's why I only cosplay as male characters or have a character that I wear a mask. But I've gotten into anime so now I want to cosplay as characters that might cause some problems.
The elder man who dressed up as a hunter is saying "y'kno" so much i died out of laughter so much. I know this is serious. But we need some positivity at least.
AS A COSPLAYER I won't to sincerely apologise for infernumasylums excuse of 'being in charecter' to try and make things seem OK and as if it is justified. Not all cosplayers are like this and many of us just do cosplay as a hobby or a way to secape life and become someone else. Once again I apologise for his actions and any other cosplayer who has tried to use this as an excuse after being caught making people feel uncomfortable
yo Iron man Cosplayer is on point
Totally-TerryFyed I know
Totally-TerryFyed right
They all do

It's not only sexual harassment as well. It's also people who harass cosplayers for not being in shape or that you're on the heavy side as well. KjStyles 17 You deserve more likes
KjStyles 17 it's disgusting. We're all a bunch of nerds dressing as our favorite characters. People shouldn't care what other ppl do
Just imagine saying 'you're not skinny enough' or 'you're not the same skin color as them' is absolutly pig like
Even the old Jumanji man gets harassed...cons used to be safe.
Andrew Ryans woah what? there was a time where cons were safe?
#DontBeACreep
who's a creep
Drangon Knight this is why you need a bouncer to get rid of the undesirables at the door. Also no one without a skimpy costume should be allowed in. Anyone below a 7 should also be booted without a seconds notice. Also, only couples, that way less creepers.

I loved the free! cosplayers! They were being so funny in the background. XD
Much better than that one-sided Huff Post video. Thanks for including both men and women in the issue.

last year at a con, i was dressed as madoka kaname and this older guy (he looked around 30- i was 13 for reference) came over to me and asked to take a picture of me laying down on a bench in a provocative pose. i agreed, not realizing what it meant. i got him to delete the picture, but i still feel disgusting. like that picture defines me in that guys head. i can't think of that con without remembering it.
cosplay is not consent. especially with children.
That last one was really good, like honestly I agree with him.
This is one of the main reasons to bring at least one person with you to a con, for protection, for more fun, for mobility and for navigation
THE TONI TONI CHOPPER IS AMAZING!!!!!
8:02
I have seen that anime but i for got the name if you know can you tell me?Cause i am a fan girl and an otaku
i can remember when i cosplayed Yoko from Gurren Lagann last year at a con and i had a group of people came up to me and said a few things that made me feel a lil strange and i have had a lot of people do some of the same things. i also have a few friends that are in a cosplaying group and they all look so cute in their cosplay.... but the girls like to wear dresses and i have seen guys try to take pics up the girls skirts i had a guy try to do that to me one time and i had to call the con staff to get involved.
8:20 im watching bobs burgers while watching this XD
2:00 PREACH
not aduck I can't remember who she played as. What's the characters name
3:09 wait that guy looks familiar what is he? It's spot on but I forgot his name
I read "Seek Out Harrassment" what the heck is wrong with me.
4:47 that charter in the background I just need a second opinion who is that I have a good idea who I just want to make sure I'm not crazy.
Levi and Erwin from attack on Titan?
the old man cosplaying is too cute
yo when i was a kid i fucking hated walking by cosplay places i thought people looked super creepyxD im all up against my mom hiding from anime characters XD
I'm so scared of these situations that I'm even afraid to show my midriff. This coming Otakon, I have to cosplays that reveal my midriff (not even in a sexy way) but I'm still nervous.
I was cosplaying rem from re zero and a girl walked up to me and saying i was too short
That Mirah Jane cosplay was just soooo amazing, it looks so awesome!!! 😃❤️
I just realized the girls shirt(the one asking questions)... EEEEEE! Spirited Away!👍🏻❤️ great movie
What you wear should kind of have a psychological impact on how you think of them. It's not even gender based either- Imagine a girl in a flowing gown. and now think of a man dressed in rags. I bet you thought of settings to put them in as well- The girl in a castle or something, with the guy in an alleyway.
Woow!! 7:10 costume is amazing
The blond boy from free (4 got his name) i want to be there just for a pic how old do you need to be and when and where is it??
I love that quote "just because you dressed up, doesn't mean your on display"
All of these are true. I'm terrified of people just randomly touching me. Even if it's just a hug. I understand some people get excited about seeing a really good cosplay of their favorite character, but they have to realize personal space is a thing.
I'm glad they mentioned that guys can get assaulted too like I've seen so many guy cosplayers get rubbed down by complete strangers and that's not right, we gotta protect our guy and girl cosplays
4:58 LEVI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to Cosplay but I'm Ugly..😅
Cosplay is for everyone ^^
You should cosplay :)
At 7:22 what is he cosplaying as
Alright, I know that touching a stranger or just hugging them without asking is bad but how about roleplay when they're cosplaying characters from the save show or game?
I dont understand how wearing swimshorts and putting on eyeliner count as cosplaying...
+Shadower1337 cosplay is dressing up to have fun and look like a character. if your talking about the free cosplayers they are cosplaying. they look like the characters, they are cosplayers
10:10 are those pokemon ?
I love seeing my favorite characters walking in the background
You know, there IS a day dedicated to the cosplayers where sex offenders will be indoors so no creepy stuff. Did I mention you can get FREE candy in your own neighborhood? Its called Halloween. October 31st.
I am sorry that happened to some Cosplayers.
Why is there no Adults only cons
Ahhh. Look in the window reflection at 5:00. That is a really really *really* good Levi cosplay. You know what, ALL OF THEM ARE SO COOL!!!
That Aang cosplay looked awesome!! Applause from me!!
Who are these guys @ 1:27 *_*
1:06 I see a small Sailor Moon in the background! 😍
I want to speak my mind on this if they're going to be at otakon. I agree to this.
I agree completely with everyone in this video (I was dying at the PPG cosplay omg)
1:19 I know it's kind of a serious video but I couldn't help but laugh
The only thing about cosplay that i'm really worried about (because I have to go with my dad,) is that people are going to come up to me and say I look like a girl. I'm going to be dressing as a boy, and I'm trans, so that's one of the things im dreading...
!!!!!
That Mirajane! Makes me want to go back and finish watching Fairy Tail
did u see erza or lucy? (lucy is in the backround in the beginning-ish)
I tried to see, I think I saw Lucy behind the Zero Suit Samus near the elevators but I'm not sure if that's really a Lucy or not x)
I like how this opens up with a Iron man Cosplayer.
I saw someone cosplaying Kyo Sohma QAQ childhood memories QUQ
YEAH CHOPPER PREACH IT!!! PREACH IT!!
Huge respect to all cosplayers
The fem!Aang was so amazing, also the message of this is amazing
Holy crepe erza and mirajane were amazing too
The elder man who dressed up as a hunter is saying "y'kno" so much i died out of laughter so much. I know this is serious. But we need some positivity at least.
Mr. saint Crocodile I was thinking of that dude from the original jumanji.
8:24 omg this group is so cute I love bobs burgers XD
4:40 what I she dressed as? Not trying to sound mean or anything
Did anyone see that cute sailor moon kid? So cuteeee
The mira Jane cosplay was amazing
4:53 I see smol bean wearing green
(Levi)
