Piggly wiggley plays a part in my life because i used to shop at one and now that building is the church i attend funny enough and even crazier than that my pastor was a former manger of a piggly wiggley store in Alabama! So it definitely has had an impact on my life!
I remember shopping at one of these when I was a kid. My grandmother used to take me there all the time. Sadly, the small town it was in has long since been ruined by "development," and the Piggly Wiggly is long gone. I really miss that place. Would shop there to this day if I could.
I've never even heard of this franchise before but it's cool to find out they're essentially the founder's of the modern grocery store concept. Super cool video Chris! 😆💙
We had a piggly wiggly with a little cafe area and the sheriff of the town would always eat lunch in there. There is still a piggly wiggly there but they moved as the population shifted. The one on the other side of where I grew up in Richlands NC has had a Piggly Wiggly in the same spot since 1959 I looked it up cause it has been there forever.
The only Piggly Wiggly we had closed many years ago. It was attached to an Ace Hardware store with a small cafe in between. You could walk from the grocery store through the cafe and into the hardware store without going outside !
Interesting to know the history. There was a piggly wiggly that closed in 2016 in my hometown in Georgia. (Ironically a month before the 100 year anniversary for the original) My parents and I used to shop there a lot. It was cheap. The mascot always reminded me of porky pig.
On historic cedars corner in Dallas, there is a piggly wiggly from 1923!!! It’s closed now and used for a different business but it still says piggly wiggly on the building 😁
I would love to locate a store that carry the fudge chocolate cookies they use to sell back in the eighty’s I have searched high and low for them my kids would go through them like crazy. They where like the crème sandwich cookies that came in lemon and vanilla. But these had the chocolate cookie and the fudge creme.
If I remember right they were the first to put together the first shopping cart where's the hand basket then he put two of them together to make the first shopping cart

Awesome! I think several of these are coming to my state soon. Can you make a short or something spreading the word to CEC corporate to save the Star Stage Artwork from Monroe LA? It is shutting down, and that awesome artwork could go extinct!
Sorry I didnt realize it was a cliffhanger. I mentioned in mu video that there are still about 500 of these stores across the southeast and midwest United States and still seem to be thriving in some locations. But they are a far cry from the juggernaught of a nearly 3 thousand store company they used to be long ago.
I live by one of these. My grandma was the only person who shopped there. Now that I am older, entering one of these stores is like going back in time.
The darnest piggly wiggly i've seen is in neeses south carolina at the intersection of hwy 321 and hwy 4. They have gas pumps, florist, pharmacy, and a restaurant that kinda reminds you of a waffle house. Restaurant Looks 1980 old school for sure. There's Lines drawn on the ground for 18 wheeler parking. And that whole length of 321 is the longest straitest road in south carolina. It was the main north/ south road b/4 the intersate. There's a abandoned truck stop along the way in ulmer south carolina on hwy 301.....called the interstate. Funny cause i-95 put it out of business. Pictures of it are on Google images.

Why save Naples? What??? Also, no more stages are getting saved. If they were to take that statement back, Brookfield is the only answer here (and Belleuve in general) but the rest are terrible.
