I’ve made that approach lots of times as a passenger, it’s a gorgeous view of the ocean and rivers, never gets old flying into Coolangatta. Great vid, thanks 👍
Beauty little airport, used Collangatta many times from CHC to NRT in Japan, so easy to use airport staff a extremely helpful, unlike other OZ airports

Setting on main beach on the Goldie watch the plane's head towards Coolangatta always made me wonder where each one just flown from,,good to hitch a ride through this video
Nice landing BUT...Much more fun back in the day.. 320-330Kts on the downwind at 1500ft, turn base aiming for the Currumbin inlet and landing on a much shorter runway than it is now.. 767 was a great machine...😆
Ahhhhhh, the good ole days!! I flew the B767 for Royal Brunei, back in the day!! Haha and we could make those approaches you speak of. Lots of fun!! Now you’d lose your licence unfortunately. Everything is recorded, flagged and reported.
@@we2love2travel24 Yeah...not too much of that ''pilot sh$t' going on any more...😆 I was with Qantas and these fun bits of flying were usually reviewed and banned after a Senior Checky managed to royally stuff one up...🤣
wasnt that long ago, i remeber being allowed in the cockpit on approach here in australia... Well I try to prrtend and tell myself it wasnt that long ago... 😭
Is this Scoot 787? there'd only 2 airlines that go into YBCG that operate the 787 which is JetStar and scoot. by looking at the engine indicator thing you can see there is three which determines it has the RR engines, JetStar doesn't have that (they have the GE engines) so I'm assuming it's scoot airlines?
Ever see any aliens? I will never forget I was looking out the window and saw another plane pass about 1km away at minus 2000 feet to us, in opposite direction
At 4:06 there's the R/A "5" callout, then at 4:09 you select idle reverse, then the aircraft appears to touch down at 4:12. Is it SOP to select idle reverse while technically still airborne?
Hey there. No, the main gear does touch before I reach for the reversers. The proof is with the speed-brake lever deploying just after the main wheels touch. Look for it deploying on the left side of my right hand just before I reach for the reversers.
See if you can work it out 😉 it doesnt have a side stick, the GPWS callouts dont say Retard, 😉 the side window is pretty unique and the colours give it away.
Hi Steven, thanks for your comment mate. If you watch my right hand around the 4:30 point in this video, you will notice that I do stow the reversers before 70 knots and I only used idle reverse which is a lot better for the engines which are super expensive.
I wouldn't want to be living in any of those house directly beneath the plane as it approaches the runway. If the plane stalls or something goes wrong, you're toast
You could say that for most airports, though. 🙂The south-east approach to R32 passes over Tweed Heads, so there's no completely clear approach for OOL. Currumbin hill on the north side is unfortunate too. At least the approach from the ocean for Brisbane and Sydney airports is mostly over water.
What a gorgeous view approaching OOL! Love your landing videos! Cheers
Thanks Vinod, much appreciated mate.

Yeah agree, it is one of my favourite places in the world. Something magic about the GC
Superb!, I always enjoy coming to the Gold coast, that was a great view!
Cheers for another cool vid!
Most welcome mate. Thanks so much for your comment.
great video
I call this city my home. I enjoy arriving every time because I know I’m home.
Me too.

For 3 years I flew Gold Coast - Sydney - Gold Coast every week. Happy home coming.

Good job. I have flown probably 300 approaches into OOL. Quite a while ago.
That’s my Bro😍👍
Great airport, ive been thru OOL 3 times both internationally & domestically
I've been to the local park on the other side of the threshold and it's just Beautifull spot to observe take offs and landings.
Do u know its name?
@@terranceroberts6259 it's the skate board park on the northern end of the runway.
go to phuket beach airport
Me to many times. With the skate park. I smoked shards while staying awake watching planes all day and into the night.
Smooth 😍
I try!!! haha. Thanks mate.
Much faster landing than i expected in the large planes 😀

Well you said there’s only two airlines so you answered your own question. 🙄
@@oo0Spyder0oohad a rough day mate?
I did my solo in a Cessna 152 at Coolangatta in 1983. I wonder if the short crosswind runway is still their.
it still is! in use by helicopter training mostly now
Nice landing.

Ah yes, I see. Thanks for the reply.
what type of aircraft and what airline was this landing in??

747?
Hi there. This was the B787 pre-covid. I now fly the B747 though.
@@we2love2travel24 ahh, ok, thanks for the reply.
Very cool, why were the reversers held up until full stop? And not until 60~70kts?
Hi Steven, thanks for your comment mate. If you watch my right hand around the 4:30 point in this video, you will notice that I do stow the reversers before 70 knots and I only used idle reverse which is a lot better for the engines which are super expensive.

You could not pay me to live in those houses right in front of the air strip...
That is butter!
Auto Pilot saying 500 bucks minimum bet to crash land!!!
I wouldn't want to be living in any of those house directly beneath the plane as it approaches the runway. If the plane stalls or something goes wrong, you're toast
It’s funny, that last river mouth, (Currumbin) before it lands is some of the most expensive real estate on the Gold Coast.. crazy hey..

That’s with any major airports. Residential exists under the flight path.
@csjames69 doesn't mean I want to be one of them lol
I think the same about houses at a T junction. One drunk or tired idiot and you’ll end up with a car in your bedroom.
