The first time the HX Stomp XL was announced, I was pretty underwhelmed and slightly disappointed that it didn't have more DSP than the HX Stomp. Over time though, I've warmed to it, and after gigging it for the Summer wedding season, I now think this is the perfect halfway house between the HX Stomp and Helix - same processing power as the HX Stomp, but with the added functionality of things like a Morningstar (but without the difficulty of programming!)
The preset I'm using here will be added to the folder "Mom35Freeze" and will be added to the Expression Folder if some of you request it below?

Very happy with my pod go as a more intermediate, upgrading from a bedroom guitarist to a church guitarist. All I really need for the next few years. Your pod go content helped a lot!
Exp folder please!! Wow, for me at least, that quick 6 button looper itself is worth the extra money...
Don’t know if it’s placebo effect or the new cabs but all the helix stuff and stomp stuff you’ve been doing recently sounds great on my headphones. This one especially for some reason. There was some deep bass notes and clear highs.
I have the Helix rack and the HX stomp, the xl was obviously marketed to the "momma bear" market and it begs the question, "how many versions of the same porridge do we need?"
The stomp makes more sense because you can always take along an expression pedal, midi mouse and a dual switchbox along if you need more controls.
Great video thank you. I don’t gig but jam with friends. Seems like the looper functions of XL are quite a bit more useable. Which, if so, would be useful to me.
Looks pretty good! The price isn't bad either. I can't believe someone took a header on your XL. You might want to get some foam pads around the edges, in case it happens again.

If I use it on stage, the XL will be more convenient.At first, I was thinking of buying a Pod GO, but the HX Stomp's small size and function is the best for me.Of course I know the limits of DSP.Palm size is the best for me.I am confident that I made the best choice thanks to you.
Love the freeze presets! Really enjoying your channel too. I bought an HX stomp XL (just before the new offer of free Native etc - aaargh...) it looks like it will do all I need for gigging - so no more pedal board to lug about - and hopefully more reliability, though the PSU is maybe a bit vulnerable to mishaps, will have to think about that. For me, the age of the DSP is irrelevant - it sounds really good and has more options than I'll ever need. I can use other gear in the studio as required.

Hey John, I really like your videos and your playing man! Rn I have a pod hd500x I'm trying to upgrade to a helix product. I'm kinda confused which one to buy tho, shall i go for the LT or stomp xl. Is the LT too big to carry in your suitcase if you're flying? Or shall i just take the xl like is the LT necessary?
Hey Jithin! I'd take a look at the dimensions - the LT is about the same size as the Floor, and weighs quite a bit so I'd think probably for most folks it might be a bit too big for a flyrig?

I wouldn't think it can't. I have a Microcosm and I can't even understand what it's doing half the time.
Are the distortions better sounding on the HX Stomp XL vs. the POD Go?

I think it’s about being the all in one mini helix. I use a boss MS3 as my pedal board “brain,” this would be a fantastic upgrade but I bought a helix lt a year before this came out. Oh well
I have an XL as a backup for my FM9 but I'd much rather have an HXFX with amp modeling in it.
I sold my FM9 and want something smaller and decent. Should I get a HXFX? Do I need anything else or is it like a Stomp? Is it better than LT, PodGO, Stomp? Budget is open- up to a 1,000 works. Will probably replace my FM9 when Cliff decides to bring the UI into the 21st century. The tones were, as you know amazing. Would really like a unit with stereo reverbs like the FM9 has. My patches don't have to be too DSP intensive but do like great tones.

it'd been nice if XL was given at least 1 more block .. I'd trade 2 buttons for 1 more block

I wish line 6 just made the Stomp xl look like a HX Effects with a bigger screen instead of this hideous monstrosity 😂. I love the firm factor of the hx effects

Why doesn’t it have a volume knob like the smaller one? Does it have all of the amp and cab stuff?
It's basically the HX Stomp with some added footswitches.
