There are so many videos and interviews of Zendaya talking about her favourite most influential musicians and albums etc in depth. But she never speaks the same way about cinema. Actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone can choose any 70s movie starring Meryl Streep and recite a scene word for word from the top of their heads, because they are actually passionate about cinema and their craft as actresses. Unlike Zendaya, who is in cinema for the money mostly, and if it was really up to her she would be the next Rihanna instead of the next Halle Berry.

She got a lot of criticism about her singing not being as good as her acting and dancing. She would've had to push to overcome that criticism of her voice the same way Ciara, Ashanti and Rihanna did. I also think doing a single with Chris Brown was just a bad idea.

Selena Gomez had an equally unimpressive voice but she had tone, and that tone carried her, with a team of writers she pulled out more hits than miley and Demi, who are much better vocalists. Who knows what could have been if ‘something new’ became a top 10 hit.

Zendaya didn’t promote her second single because Chris Brown, who she featured on the song, was in some hot water for saying some problematic things about Black women and Zendaya wanted to make it a point that she didn’t side with, condone or stand for Chris’ behavior.
