Thanks for taking us along for the ride Kate! I loved Cold Mountain and I had no idea that the real Cold Mountain was in NC! I loved those mountains because they look like the ones I see here in West Virginia. That's the reason we're called The Mountain State and our state motto is "Mountaineer Are Always Free". The mountains are just in our DNA aren't they? No matter where else you might go, these mountains in Appalachia are always our true home.
I don't even really care what the topic might be, always get happy when these pop up! VERY COOL about "Cold Mountain", forgot about that movie (really liked it). Thank you Katie!!! 🙌🏼 💓
It was great seeing you Katie, I can tell I'm not the only one here that misses seeing you. It was a beautiful road trip with just you since we don't get to see or hear from you much! Hope you and Nick have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year together! You need to do more video's like this one!

I used to drive around 13 hours (+\-) occasionally from mid Texas to Northern Missouri, alone. Easy to get too tired. So I sang a lot, and talked to myself. Crazy times for me. This was back around 1974 when I was in the military.
Oh my...did you have a boat of a car that felt like you were floating? I never would have made it in one of those! Everytime I rode with my aunt on a long car ride I was out like a light. Thank you for your service! What a hard time to be in the military. God bless!
It was nice to spent a little time with you today, Katie. We haven't seen much of you lately. Nor have we seen, or heard much about Nick. Hopefully you are happy and loving life! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! God bless you and keep you safe!
Lovely video. Great tips! Beautiful landscapes! And for a practical video, Katie, you're looking ravishing! I have long drives too and here are more tips: 🤭 1) have protection within reach (pepper spray, fire extingiuser, gun), 2) a fold-up caddy holds drinks, phone, sunglasses, 3) top up the tank when you set out -- no more distraction of when and where to get gas, 4) know places of safety along the way (police and fire stations, hotels, restaurants, hospitals), 5) find an MP3 player and make playlists of your favorite songs according to mood, 6) and last, to make the ride shorter, get married and eliminate the commute altogether! God bless!
just wanted t say how much the scenery where you are is like ours here in Scotland. So much of the forestry and hills etc just made me feel you could be driving along any road in our countryside. Also having watched your videos and your mum's I have learned a lot of the history and was surprised to learn that Scots were among the early settlers in Appalchia , it must have reminded them of home.
So good to see you, Katie! Enjoyed riding with you and passing by beautiful scenery! Good tips about what to do before a car ride. ;) Love your sweater too; looks real cozy! God bless you, my friend!
I drive from Ft. Myers, FL to Asheville, NC & Canton, NC each season. I listen to audio books & podcasts. All my water & snacks are within reach. ❤ - I love those WNC mountains SO much! I’ve seen that flea market lots of times but never have been.
Have driven that same route many times. I have lived in Asheville and Candler in the past and would take that route to my parent’s house in Georgia. It’s a very pretty and peaceful ride. I prefer that to only interstate driving. Thanks for taking us along.

Gorgeous drive! Absolutely beautiful. My youngest is the best front seat passenger for me to travel with. Shes 16 now, but she's always been the best. She works the blue tooth, keeps the best jams flowing, she's witty and so fun to talk to, and is excellent at handing me what I need so I'm not distracted. I always look forward to any trip I have to make if she's my front seat passenger. And no it isn't weird to have a favorite gas station. We definitely do even just in town. And we have ones we Absolutely never go in to as well.
Seems like your very prepared to do some distance driving. You’ve given some thought to the process and that makes you better prepared for the trip. Fighting boredom and sleep while driving alone can be addressed by arranging for something that would entertain you while traveling. Good music that you like to sing along with is one thing that you can do. An audio book is another way to beat the boredom while traveling. There are many books that you can download to your iPhone, or if your car has a CD player you can pickup a slightly used book on CD for not much money at a used book store. Games are also a way to help pass the time. Most of these involve counting things along the roadway. I also reading as many signs along the way as I can. Of course when you live in the mountains, there is plenty of beautiful scenery to observe. Seems like your well on your way. Be safe! - Tennessee Smoky
I discovered that I can download audiobooks from my library on my phone. I have a newer car with heated seats and my phone connects to the audio system. That makes even short trips go more quickly. Thanks for sharing your part of the world with all of us. Have a very Merry Christmas!
The gorge is a beautiful drive. One of my favorites. Go thru in my way to Sylva/Cullowee. It takes longer in the summer with the rafters, but it is breathtakingly beautiful in the summer too.
Hey Katie! Haven't got those rocks sent out yet, I'm still findin 'em. I didn't know I had so many. I love driving in the mountains, especially in the bottoms where the road follows the river. I'm always checking out new kayaking spots. I saw that French Broad River sign back there. It's about 90 minutes from my house to where I go in Traphill and about another 45 minutes to the 221 New River Campgrounds. That's for sure one of my favorite places to kayak. I have already peeped the Christmas videos so I know yall had a wonderful Christmas. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us!
Thank you for taking us along. It’s not always safe to pull over if someone is driving close behind you. Just slow down & they will pass at some point. I used to travel 5 hrs one way from near Charlottesville, VA into WV every other weekend (at least) to help take care of Mother. I had curvy roads for 1 1/2 hr. I followed coal & log trucks & it does make it a long drive. My favorite time was Spring & Summer. I didn’t care much for the plain brown views.
It's so interesting to me to see your side of the world which in my mind seems so different yet when I see it they're so much alike. Ty for bringing all of us along! 💓
It was a beautiful trip thanks for bringing me a long. I used to drive from Jacksonville Fl to Knoxville Tn to visit my daughter and I’d take my 7 month old grandson with me he wasn’t much help in handing me things 😂❤️.
Thank you for taking us along. It takes me almost 5 hours to go to my daughter’s home in Memphis. I eat, drink water, sing to Elvis, etc. It makes the time pass better. Your sweater is beautiful.

Enjoyed this! Thanks for taking us along for the ride! Beautiful area ! I love Haywood county! Alot of 6000 ft. + mountains in Haywood county, such as cold mountain. I love cold mountain itself ,as well as the movie. Cold mountain and the shining rock wilderness area is very beautiful! I've hiked alot in that area , in the balsam and plott balsam mountains. The nantahala river is very beautiful also . Thanks again katie! Stay safe and warm! Merry Christmas and God bless y'all always...🙏❤
Katie, you are a hoot and a half! The main tip I got from this is to get a Pressley to ride with ya and keep the conversation going. 2 hours to Nick's, he must be a special guy...
Drove back and forth from Cincinnati to just outside of Nashville often for work. Yes 100% agree have everything in reach, plenty of snacks and food! I never wanted to stop! Thank's for sharing! Merry Christmas!
I love solo road trips, especially through Tennessee and North Carolina. Very restorative. My favorite thing to do while driving is listening to audio books on CD, or more recently on Audible. As for preps, I bring ALL the snacks, plenty of water, a good blanket - just in case - and a road emergency kit. Love me a road trip!
Thanks! A really nice video that brought back many memories of trips around the South with my parents in the 1950's! I liked the trips to the mountains most of all! I have some old black and while pictures of me in and around Cherokee, N.C. from that time on one of our trips. Your video brought back some of those memories. There is a book that came out in about 1999 called "Blue Highways" that you might like about traveling around the country but staying off the Interstates. It also brought back memories of one of the happiest times in my life, when I reconnected with my girlfriend from the late 1960's before we had to go our separate ways due to school for both of us in different places and then my four years in the Air Force during Vietnam. In the late 1980's she was working for Duke Power on a project in upstate South Carolina and I bought a new car just so I could make the drive to see her. We spent many weekends driving and hiking all over the area where Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina all meet. When her project was over she came back here with me we got engaged and married after that. In South Carolina they called that area "The Garden of the gods" and it was well named. Thanks again for all the really nice memories.
Been in that part of the country before but has been awhile back. They have four lanes in certain areas now. Thats good! Thanks for sharing Katie. Was good to see you again!

It is so beautiful there! It reminds me a little bit of parts of Colorado :) I agree, going someplace has a completely different feel than coming back, and one way always feels longer! Thank you Katie, this was fun! I'm glad you had a safe trip! God bless you :D
I travel by myself quite often ( 1 to 2 times a month)from Ohio to central Ky, it's about a 4.5 hour drive. I agree with your tips. Fill up your gas tank and go to the restroom before you leave because you never know what to expect. Have snacks, drinks, music and hard candies to suck on within reach. I turn siri on for maps even if I know where I'm going because she seems like a bit of company. I drive the back roads and stay off the interstate for peace of mind. In the winter make sure you have blanket, coat, gloves and hat in your car. I never travel after dark anymore. The most interesting thing was during the pandemic I could not find anywhere to stop and use the rest room so I had to start limiting myself to one bottle of water per trip. I actually enjoy that down time that is all to myself.
Theres a mountain to your right before you get to Cruso that belonged to my great uncle. Spent many good times up there. He had a 100 year old cabin, actually two old cabins he made into one. Beautiful view of Cold Mountain from his front porch. By the way, Cold Mountain was filmed mostly in Romania.
This video could have been filmed in Eastern Kentucky it looks so much like home. I agree with you that the view looks different driving to and from somewhere and I, too, have my favorite hills, mountains, etc. both directions. Also, if you drive that way for a year, all four seasons show you different views that are special all to themselves. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I love seeing the jagged rocks along the roadside with the winding river. That’s a nice scenic drive. Have a very Merry Christmas Katie with your family. Enjoyed the car ride!
I have to drive back and forth between where I live now and my hometown quite often. It's about 2 to 2-1/2 hrs. I usually don't play music, I don't have AC in my car and with the windows down I can't hear it, in the winter I'm just don't think about it. I have the trip divided up and named in my head - here's the lake area, here's the black cow area, going over the Wabash River on the blue bridge, etc. I love driving - it's a good time to think and reflect. Thanks for taking us along on your drive Katie! ❤
One of my favorite movies is "Cold Mountain"!!! I am watching your video and I was just about to comment asking if there was a connection between your mountain and the movie but then a few seconds later and you pulled over and talked a little more how that mountain is the same as the movie one even if they filmed somewhere else . Man luv that movie
The Cascade mountains were in my "Backyard" for years & moms family is from Alaska. Been to Mt. Rainier, Mt. St. Helens,, & Mt. McKinley many times. Funniest thing for me? Driving up to Alaska, part of the journey- north of Prince George (BC, Canada) I started one morning and after driving several hours at about 80mph or so...the peaks in the background seemed just as far away as when I started. Music is what I'll do while driving solo. Just did Havasu, AZ to the RDU triangle last week solo with my uncle's "Travel urn" strapped in the RR seat. Cold, illegals running across I-10 in El Paso, thunderstorms & tornadoes (especially in Louisiana & Mississippi) and other bits to keep me awake

This reminds me of driving through Damascus, VA on our way to Laurel Bloomery or Mountain City, TN. There is a spot near Asheville NC where you are just surrounded by mountains and it is just sooooo beautiful! I used to get sad as a child seeing the road signs that said we were on 81 North or actually any road going north….I only liked going south. South was where vacation was! Anyway, just ramblin’. As always, love your videos. It’s like watching my younger cousins or something. LOVE y’all!
Hey Katie nice seeing you!! That’s a gorgeous trip and love seeing my old stomping grounds( the gorge). Great tips! I for sure opt to take the scenic route when I can. Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas 🕊️🎄🕊️

Came home from the mountains using Google maps a different way this year. It was lovely country on the back roads. Even met two horses having their best day trotting down our road. Dont know where they escaped from but they were on a mission. Quite a nice adventure.
I always enjoy road trips without company. It’s like my private sanctuary. I can talk to God pray and just be quiet feel His presence without distractions. Backroads and 2 lanes with less traffic and gorgeous scenery. Of course road trips with good company are super fun. Thanks for letting us ride along. Merry Christmas and God bless!

Be careful, the weather is changing so quickly. It's strange 👀 you without your co-driver 😂. Get 🏡 safely. Happy Holidays Katie. The ⛰ is beautiful. Thanks.
I enjoy driving by myself. I just crank my music up and go. Whatever mood I’m in that day is what music I listen to it might be classic rock, hair bands, old country, gospel, blue grass or the Pressley girls. But my volume has to be on 25 or 27 and my heat has to be on 71 or 73, yes my wife tells me I’m weird with odd numbers. Stay safe out there, Merry Christmas, and God bless.
Hey, Katie! So good to see you! I've been missing you, but I figured you were in the Christmas jewelry making crunch. Thanks for bringing us along on this beautiful roadtrip. I sing a lot when I'm on a trip by myself. I try not to stop too much b/c it makes the trip seem endless. I like the sweater you have on. Yes! Gingerale is great...especially with tummy issues. Be careful traveling in this cold weather! Much love from SC! Merry Christmas to you and Nick, too!❤️🌲🙏

Like you, a 2 hour car ride seems like forever to me. I like to leave early when there's less traffic, I don't want to make any stops because I don't want to be in the car any longer than I have to and I want to get to where I'm going. I'm glad you have a solid routine on how you travel when you're alone. The one thing I was hoping you'd add is that you always carry a car survival kit that contains whatever you'd need to get you out of most situations if your car broke down (basic tools and/or a multi-tool knife, flashlight, duct tape, rain poncho, there's a jumper cable device where you can jump start your car without having to connect to another car, work gloves, glass breaker device and some other items. There are TH-cam videos on what kinds of things to include.). Stay safe, stay warm, be careful. Glad you took us along so we could see all of that gorgeous scenery. I especially liked seeing the surroundings because some of my ancestors lived in North Carolina and I've never been there. Thank you, Katie, for showing us around. I've been watching Corie's videos and loved them but I'm used to seeing y'all together and missed seeing you. Have a Happy, Healthy and very Merry Christmas.
Enjoyed your car ride and the pretty mountains. . Always nice to see mountains. Interesting to hear about Coal Mountain. Love your sweater. It looked so pretty! Your hair looked like it had gotten trimmed some. Whether or not it had it looked so pretty. 💗. Loved the name Juke Box Junction! So cute. Glad you made it safely home. Thank you for the ride!! 🙏❤️🙏
Enjoyed the ride. Nice to see you. Haven't seen you as much lately, sure your busy though. Scenery was beautiful, reminds me of WV. Have a great Christmas Katie.🎄
So fun! All of your tips are good ones. The views are so pretty... The roads remind me of going through the Ozarks in Arkansas. Twisty turny...Thx for taking us along.... It reminds me of time spent with my Meme when I was younger. We would always drive around and just look at the countryside. We'd stop for food.. Or sometimes just to get a homemade ice cream at the Dairy Mart near her farm. Be blessed... And have a wonderful Christmas! ❤️

Thank you Katie for just taking us along. It's so beautiful riding up in the mountains. My family and I used to do that a lot, but we haven't been up there in several years. Everyone loves to go see the leaves changing, but I think the prettiest is when it snows. Oh my goodness....I remember one time my husband, my kids, and I went up to the mountains and we didn't know it was going to be snowing. It was gorgeous!! Like riding through a winter wonderland. ❄❄❄❄☃️⛄Glad you had a safe trip. You and Corrie are smart young ladies. Merry Christmas Katie to you and your family. 🎅🤶🧑🎄🎁🎄✝️🌟☃️😘🤗❤❤❤❤❤ P.S. I always think going on a trip down to Florida is fast getting there than it is coming back home. Seems like it takes forever to get back home. 😉😀
There is such beautiful scenery on your drive to see! I miss NC, so I really appreciate & enjoy all y'alls driving videos. I didn"t realize Nick lived that far away. Have a very blessed & Merry Christmas 🌟👑🐪✨🎁🎄💖

Looks a lot like the roads around here in southern WV. Feels like home to me!
Been in that part of the country before but has been awhile back. They have four lanes in certain areas now. Thats good!
Thanks for sharing Katie. Was good to see you again!

It is so beautiful there! It reminds me a little bit of parts of Colorado :)
I agree, going someplace has a completely different feel than coming back, and one way always feels longer!
What beautiful mountain views!

Wow the mountains are glorious. Thanks for showing it to us. So beautiful.
Your drive reminded me of my home in Oregon. I miss the mountains and the Rogue river. Great tips. As always, blessings from GA.
Enjoyed riding along with you, Katie🤗🤗
I have to drive back and forth between where I live now and my hometown quite often. It's about 2 to 2-1/2 hrs. I usually don't play music, I don't have AC in my car and with the windows down I can't hear it, in the winter I'm just don't think about it. I have the trip divided up and named in my head - here's the lake area, here's the black cow area, going over the Wabash River on the blue bridge, etc. I love driving - it's a good time to think and reflect. Thanks for taking us along on your drive Katie! ❤
Enjoyed the ride very much along with your talk. God Bless. Jean
Absolutely beautiful country. Merry Christmas and the best new year ever. God bless you. Enjoyed the ride this morning.
Katie! Thanks for the ride that's some beautiful scenery! Hope your staying warm! It's -3 in Tennessee this morning! I'm enjoying my wood stove.

Been to the flea market many years ago. I would like to go back again.
LOVE y’all!
🙏
I’ve never traveled those roads, until we came to Julie’s 😊. Thanks and merry Christmas
Thanks so much for showing us the absolute beautiful place that you live Katie! Love
Those pretty scenes and mountains!!
Thanks Katie I really loved the views along your road trip.
Hey Katie nice seeing you!! That’s a gorgeous trip and love seeing my old stomping grounds( the gorge). Great tips! I for sure opt to take the scenic route when I can. Stay warm and have a Merry Christmas 🕊️🎄🕊️

Thank you Katie! A very Merry Christmas to you all. ~Love&Light♥️Carli
Yes, I have to have some road snacks. Nuts, popcorn, dried fruit, apples and sometimes a pack of Nabs for old times sake...
Beautiful drive! We enjoyed riding along with you. 🎄❤️
It is beautiful scenery! Where we live its mostly flat except for the sand dunes along the lake...😊😊
Thanks for taking us along with you Katie. Beautiful scenery that’s for sure. Have yourself a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the next one. BTW I love your Christmas sweater!
Thanks for the ride! Beautiful country. Loved it.
Love the south❤
Katie, please do this again in the early spring 😍
Came home from the mountains using Google maps a different way this year. It was lovely country on the back roads. Even met two horses having their best day trotting down our road. Dont know where they escaped from but they were on a mission. Quite a nice adventure.
I've been to uncle Bill's flea market. Katie your drive brought back alot of memories for me it a beautiful drive .

Enjoyed this video. Nice to see the beautiful landscape as you were driving.
Merry Christmas to you all.
Love the creek next to the road you’re on. Love the mountains.

Enjoyed the ride and the scenery. Thanks!
Very nice friend thank you for the scenery looks just like Arkansas
Love those mountains. Haven't seen them in 2 years. Your blessed to live and travel in them. Merry Christmas! Cheryl from GA and my dog Dixie. 🎄🙏❤️

Lots of outdoor fun. Love seeing the smiles.
You are Blessed! Thanks for the ride!
🎅🤶🧑🎄🎁🎄✝️🌟☃️😘🤗❤❤❤❤❤
P.S. I always think going on a trip down to Florida is fast getting there than it is coming back home. Seems like it takes forever to get back home. 😉😀
