How to do everything WRONG. Stranded in a snowstorm on the mountain

- I don't want to bash on or talk negatively about this particular driver, but this is a perfect case of how to do everything wrong. A lot happened before I even turn the camera on, but between not following directions, walking blindly into traffic, walking behind my wrecker as I'm backing up, calling multiple tow companies, purposely ignoring chain laws, and complaining about the price that you had already agreed to.. I had no patience on this job. It was basically a textbook example of how to put yourself in a bad situation, and make everything more difficult.

Ethan is a great addition to the company, Casey. It's wonderful to see his growth as a tow truck driver. You're an awesome teacher.
Ron Pratt has an Ethan and now so does Casey!
@@blakeloke6997Casey’s is a lot more tolerable.
@@blakeloke6997 I'm still subscribed to Ron, but don't watch him much now, largely in part he's Christian, but also wears it a little too loudly for my liking, but as a tow truck operator (and business partner/owner), he's also a good one to watch for how to rescue things correctly.
@@johnhpalmer6098
Ron however keeps his channel family friendly where young kids are watching it that might not be supervised constantly.
Ron also lives in an area where religion is more a part of society where Casey's location isn't religious.
@@cclngthr That's true, but still, the heavy at times heavy handed Christian thing is a bit much.
Complaining that a tow truck got you moving again too quickly is such a wild take. If he wanted to spend the night there and save his money that was always an option.
No as soon as an officer saw him or the plowtruck reported him there PD would've arranged his tow to get him to a safe location
Calling multiple companies at the same time to see who shows up first will get you on the DO NOT SERVICE list around here.
If you're willing to pay for that privilege (paying everyone for their time because you're in a hurry and need out now), then I see nothing wrong with it.
If you're going to stiff the guy? Then I hope all the tow truck companies share your name and number and the DO NOT SERVICE list.
Heck no, free money....get that credit card number, drive out there and lean out the window of your warm cab and thank him for for doing nothing ! Bet ya he don't do again 😂
He did want to pay Casey for more than 15 minutes.
Do you think he would pay someone for showing up?
That's a stupid thing to do. Doing that you may make a deadly situation for someone else.
@@judithfairchild8620 That is the worst part of it. Wasting time is one thing, possibly stiffing them of pay isn't cool, but making someone drive up an icy mountain for no reason at all is absolutely absurd and incredibly selfish.
Not even sure that can be called bashing the driver. You are giving a real time example of what it takes to do your job. That driver is a real world example of the obstacles you have to overcome to do it. Just another example that people should not always act on everything we think is right and sometimes listen to the pro’s we have hired to do something.
Ethan nailed it, "Don't be a dick!", too many people forget that!
Why did it cost so much? To quote James Michner, "to tow you out was only $1, the 20 years it took to learn how costs you $300"
Plus the cost of running that equipment
He should have been able to charge for the aggrevation! A stupidity charge as well.
I had a custom wrap made for the tailgate of my repo truck with the sneaker lift that says I don't have an anger problem I lack the ability to deal with stupid the wrap was worth every penny some people get upset about the sticker across the sleeper of my W900 road tractor it says fucKENWORTHit my kids got that for me while getting it repaired from someone blowing a red light and going underneath me popping a seam on my fuel tank and knocking the tag axle out they even had it painted to match the rest of our fleet the red letters on battleship grey with all the aluminum blacked out and black steel wheels I love it
@@davidwoermansr "i don't have an anger problem, i lack the ability to deal with stupid" is a great saying!
first thing i have ever wanted for a bumper sticker.
@@ARockRaider my sister got me the t-shirt after I ran my 79 suburban through the babysitter's house because she let her boy toy feed my 3 year old Fireball and almost killed him I told the cops at the hospital they better find him before I was told my baby was going to make it or he died luckily he made it so I knocked on the door going to give him a beat down he hid behind a locked door so I unlocked it and the backdoor remodeling the kitchen in between boy cops got there quick
That's the sort of customer you really don't need. Reminds me of a video that went viral in the UK when a recovery guy turned up to change a tire. Not only did the customer try to cancel the entire job, but the tow company driver refused to fit the tire but still left it with them for someone else to fix. The customer ended up climbing up in the recovery guy's truck, and then walked in the busy traffic lanes o to try to stop him leaving. It just escalated down from good intent to bad intent. I've always thought that being rescued is a privilege, not a right.
If we had any sign of trouble with bad customers my wife would close the account.
She said there are enough nice people and we want them no aggrevation. Life is too short.
As a truck driver, there are too many people driving that really have know business driving a truck.
100% correct there are plenty that give the real professionals a bad reputation.
Put some chains on and slow down and keep on rolling. Learn how to chain 8 drive tires in 15 to 20 minutes using white original chain racks.
Some people shouldn't even be driving if they didn't understand any of the lessons they were supposed to learn. Especially under inclement driving conditions. Thanks for all of the great lessons Casey. Everyone should listen to their tow truck driver.
How much about driving truck can be taught in 4 weeks especially by companies who have you with a trainer for 4 weeks cut you loose on your own and after 6 months of solo driving if you want a raise you can become a trainer I was lucky to grow up in trucks learning to move them around our yard and in the fields as soon as I could reach the pedals (never on the backroads around the farm) I still continue to learn if a situation arises I've never seen I'm not afraid to ask around and learn something instead of screwing up and trying to explain to the insurance man and owner of what I'm hauling how shit got tore up and I'm about to semi-retire as a professional tourist and just stick to the farm trucks and my yearly derbycar loads from the desert and Texas to the land of salt cancered cars
Casey, as a Ex Wrecker driver I agree with you 100% when you are risking your life out there sometime it gets scary, I was almost hit on I-5 down by Albany a truck had come close enough to hit my drivers mirror I had to dive under my flatbed to keep from getting hit. Some times you lose your temper... If people get upset when a "word" gets thrown out there from frustration then that is their problem, Stay safe, Gods Speed...
as a new driver I love hearing what professionals do and won't do when on the side of the road, I think it would be awesome if you made a video on roadside safety on what to do and not to do, you can even send it to your customers that need a little extra help understanding what to do
Most of it comes down to common sense honestly. Common sense, pay attention, don't get in a rush and you're good to go.
@joryblack9343 Unfortunately common sense is lacking in America. Part of that is too many people who are not raised by proper parenting and education.
@@joryblack9343 The problem comes when said driver thinks they know better than the one that is trying to rescue them. Complain that it didn't take long for Casey to rescue ... is kind of a slap in the face ...
Being the good guy, after all of that Casey tells the driver that he needs to chain up ..
I would leave him go without chaining up but Casey knew the driver would be a danger to others!!
@@johnstark4723that's caused by the government overstepping their boundaries and not allowing proper parenting and education that's why I homeschooled my kids and am about ready to semi-retire and homeschool my grandkids
and it's not just an American problem
When you call the best there is no need to call anyone else. This guy is a true knucklehead.
The driver was not only stuck, he's stuck on stupid!😀
Thanks for saying that . Too many people are Der der . We're not talking from birth butt by choice.
You can say that again.
Agreed 💯
😂😂😂 Exactly!!
Oh crap! Better call backup. You know who? Bruuuuuce. Bruuuuuce. Bruuuuce.
Nahhh, he's too lazy to get out and help.
Bruce is paralyzed from an accident. He is out doing what many wouldn't even think about doing. Lay off Bruce! He's amazing!

Never stop being yourself. You did a great job.
Yeah, I run into those guys at the truck stop trying to help them back into a spot. At least your guy spoke English, so there's that...
It comes down to the age-old triangle of Speed, Quality and Cost. Can only have 2. To show up and have him out in 15 min and not damage or affect his situation in any way ticks the Speed and Quality mark so with that comes Cost. With Casey's knowledge, expertise and equipment you can expect top notch service, but it comes at a cost (as it should). Pick your worth. Go cheap and have another vehicle stuck with you and potential damage to the tractor. Pretty simple.
Wow! So amazed a driver is so unprepared.
As a tech, i've heard the whine of people crying over prior agreed to cost more than anything else. You're paying for the experience not the amount of time it took me to use that experience. Now, when someone pisses me off. Then it's. You see that over there (points to triple banked hutched tool box) do you have thousands of dollars of your own tools to fix your problem? No, that's why you came to me. IDGAF to fire a customer, not all money is good money and with a shortage of people as skilled as me in my field, i'm never out of work.
Yes really paying for the experience and equipment not the time for job. I parked for the night and weather was just right that i wasnt stuck when parked and an hour later either but in morning i was. Sucks being empty at times. I called company for them to go get me assistance. Took 2 minutes with a rope and a wrecker. I dont get the bill but im sure it was a few hundred😊
I couldn’t agree more, I have spent the last thirty years learning my trade. I charge for that experience because I wasn’t getting paid shit working for other people all those years. I started my own business because I have acquired the necessary skills and now I need to pay for my business and my family.
You're a bit confused. Casey based it off hourly rates. He was just there and knew how long it took to get there, winch out, and drive home.
@@jessepittif there's 5 people in the truck don't even let it in your lot if they can even find a company to tow it only way I'll tow that mess is if they pull their own driveshaft or the company is OK with the shity transmission becoming part of the problem most of them guys get drug to a truckstop till they can find a shop that will take it in or they lowboy another tractor to them and load the shitshow and haul it to the company shop

Nice job with a difficult customer, Casey. Always enjoy your vids with your honest, unfiltered comments.
Looks like you guys actually got some snow now. Nice truck, nice recovery! Definitely not lazy
'I want him to stay in the truck. Its the safest place.' Previous videos harassed Bruce Cook for doing that very thing.😂

Great Team Work, man.
I used to own and operate 320 acre Timber and Christmas Tree Farm in the Silverton Hills for 25 years of my life, I know the pass very well, always a challenge in winter.
In 45 years of trucking i have had to deal with clowns like that.
Great job Casey...
Your whirly lights are WAY better than strobes! I heard and understood your explanations for your preferences in your other videos, but this one really makes it obvious why whirlies are superior to strobes!
Bruce Cook wouldn't cry about his bad day
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂 that dude was stuck there a while. He didn’t have chains on when I went by and just working it in deeper.
Casey when the day comes where you can't do this type of work anymore and I hope that's many years away, you should consider starting a training school for CDL A truck drivers, wreckers, and rollbacks. You do a great job of telling the driver and Ethan what you want them to do. Unfortunately that driver didn't want to listen. Maybe if you trained him he would have. Ethan does and you're doing a great job training him.
Casey the only time I called another towing company, was when the first left my setting over 4 hours with no show or calling me back .😮
understandably, but STILL I would have cancelled the first one with a call or text.
Casey, don't change a thing about your channel! Well except maybe some 4 wheeling with the Model A or T that you buy!
#1 I don't think that guy had any business driving a truck. #2 I wish you could have gotten his info to the other tow truck so he could charge him as well. #3 You get no flack from me about cussing. People don't realize how dangerous your job already is, having a brain dead customer not following directions just makes it worse. The bad weather and idiots not slowing down added even more to that dangerous situation. You and Ethan have families you want to get back to safely, if folks don't understand and emphasize with your frustration with the ordeal then they need to go watch cooking videos or something. I want you guys around so I can watch your shenanigans and adventures... I mean it when I say stay safe and GOD bless
As a firefighter I’ve found that people driving by you on the side of the road will drive way too fast around a scene because they’ve got no idea what it’s like to work on the side of a highway. People don’t realize that driving 30 mph past a scene seems reasonable to them, but when you’re standing on the side of an icy road it’s not alright. Things go sideways FAST! We always stay on scene and block for our towing companies and they all seem very grateful for the extra protection. We also help them pull cables and stuff. When you’re on the side of the highway (especially in the dark and it’s icy) you’re all on the same team.
You’re awesome Casey :). Totally been there way too many times with language and frustration with people. Personally I would have been tempted to call the state or county police or Odot on the jacka** about the chains stuff. He’s not just out there risking his own butt faking being chained up. Thank you Casey :)
Ethan for the win,
Casey is a natural bad ass
Great video Casey, if they listened then you wouldnt get upset. Tough business your in
If the driver is incompetent you have to do what you have to do. I went through the same thing with a guy during the last blizzard we had here. I was just a guy with a plow helping out neighbors and I ended up getting frustrated and driving the car for him.
Great video Casey sir no matter what they say.
Got to love those steering wheel jockeys. They do not care about others.
LOL kinda figured it was a English is not my 1st languange drivers and the ending proved I was right . Alos Truck drivers chain up when the signs say to if you don't want to chain up stay at a Truck stop until the Road deptment does there job . I know Casey prefers to have your business from getting stuck but play it safe .
Casey. You’re the man. I don’t care what the haters say. Lol. Hell I would fly down from Alaska just to ride on a recovery. Keep doing what you do. Look at the brain on Casey!!
Casey's heavy truck driving school to the rescue? Well done Sir, and you are allowed to curse when people don't listen.
I have a question for you Casey, what brand of traditional tire chains have you been running as these days it seems with some offshore chains, the quality can be extremely bad.
Definition of a steering wheel holder! lol
Gotta listen to the tow driver. Especially when the weather is like this!
Hot take, finger(glove) tight is the same functionally as 1/4 turn loose and neither has any significant bearing on WLL.
No the fun is all our side, warm and cozy in da house. Fireplace blazing, nice wine...🎉
Tell it like is, Casey! Some brains are like permafrost: mushy on the surface but frozen solid underneath so nothing sinks in!
Casey, what would you have done if you had been the second wrecker onsite knowing you just got stiffed?
I wouldn’t have gotten stiffed because it would have already had his credit card before I ever left

As someone who is neurodivergent, I often wonder how so many normal folks can't even be bothered to use even half of their brains and heed instructions, and think, when most of the rest of us that can use our brains and think (sometimes too much/over think) but I'd rather have that than those that can't be bothered to think much, if at all.
You and Ethan did well on this one, difficult customer or no and no one got harmed, though to be honest, if you had hurt his feelings (by bashing), it's be the guy's fault, not yours so it's not an issue with me.
It's the holier than thous like the guy who announced he was leaving you because you didn't bleep out Jesus Christ, but did bleep out the F word. Come on I say, get a life for once.
Overall, a good video, as usual.
Casey was trash-talking that driver so badly I was beginning to think the driver must be in a wheelchair.

At minute 12:50 I think Casey needs to add one more gauge.
Great video
Can’t stand this entitled attitude, it’s his own fault he got stuck but calls multiple tow companies to get him out immediately
I get that with HVAC sometimes. It's one reason I like word of mouth advertising instead of publicly. But that probably doesn't work for towing companies
I can see the guys point of view. I had a delivery company move some freight 150 miles but they were only unloading at my house for ten minutes ..can not see why they charged so much for 10 minutes work😂
Stay to the end of the video. 👍 . It's important if it gets Casey this animated.
4:32 "I want to throw stuff at them!" A bucket of cold water on their windshield would be about right.
That truck driver needs to move to florida
Too many people have no respect for the ENTIRE job. If the guy wanted to only pay you for 15 minutes he should have at least had the courtesy to get stuck right next to where your tow truck was parked!!!
Years ago I was called to a customer site for a network outage. Took the entire morning to determine the problem. Laughably the fix was literally 5 seconds. I billed them for the morning. A/P calls my A/R department says: "I know it took him 5 seconds to fix it. I'm only paying for 5 seconds. Please re-bill." So we worked the math and billed them for the same amount but stated on the invoice: "5 seconds of billable time to fix network problem." I got a call from the owner. Guy was laughing his a** off. "I know there is a story here, do tell!" He paid the bill and thanked me for my assistance! Told me in the future if the A/P lady was being that way to just contact him. LOL!
ESL... it explains everything
Oooooh the complaining about price after agreeing to the tow, immediate simmering blood boil lol.
I'm the same way about the bad mood, my wife hates it and gives me a lot of flack especially when it's in front of the kids. In the long run it probably doesn't help, but boy some people need to feel that they're being an idiot. Problem is some of them are so stupid they'll just think you're just a jerk, not that they're a moron.
Hey Casey, love your videos, but I would not tow those guys if they did not have chains on.
Good morning
Thanks
Casey if you were able to have been able to keep the Silverado and use it as say Ethan’s traffic control/blocker vehicle, would you opt to install the Onspot chains on it as well?
No
What good do chains do on a trailer tires that don't spin???
What did you charge him? $200???
You ever hear of google or bing? The answers you seek await you there.
Chains on the trailer tires keep it from sliding sideways, And also allows the brakes to work without locking the trailer tires up and sliding when stopping.
Google isn't always right it's only about 75% accurate 😁
thats just startup fee i bet. i drove road assist at some point and start fee was 100$ + a price pr mile and/or time. and mind you that was not a heavy rig i was driving , im sure you can atleast double the rates when it comes to heavy towing. a wild guess would be mid 700´ and thats even dirtcheap for 5 hrs and a tow rig. yes you round up.
More than $200 in just fuel to just get there and back, all those years of experience is what your paying for, and he should charge more for difficult customers period, not a therapist.
I sit here pretending this is a wrecker simulator and I hit the correct switches right before you do so I can play along :) How about some rotating halogens on the traffic control truck and sell off the strobes you have on there.
Had the driver chained properly he would’ve made it up .. no reason for a tandem trailer to spin out if the jewellery is on.. heck the unchained 4 wheeler made it up lol
That would be so Frustrating. First he doesn't listen. Who only chains on one side. Yes they paying. It is more work getting the money then towing him.
On coaches in Europe when we chain up it is on both sides of the drive axle and one side (normally curbside) of the steer axle, do you ever chin up a steer axle?
Nope
One has to wonder how some people get their CDL license ..
Where a trooper when you need one. That guy needs to be trained better if he would of just put chains on both sides of the rear axle he probably wouldn't have had to call you even though he legally needed all his chains easy has he was to get going three trailers on the rear probably been fine but some people don't use there hat holders for what God intended thinking your awesome Casey I can't do anymore due to heath so I watch you
Because I hate Casey, I don’t skip the commercials
Go Casey!
I know what the speeding traffic problem is, you don't have enough strobes on your truck.... Just kidding just kidding. They'd be running into you if you did.
Care to bet he didn't stop and finish chaining up
I highly doubt it
Good morning Casey if only u could charge extra for foolish people like that who don't chain up and then make a recovery more difficult.
In my opinion it should be illegal to call two different towing companies for the same job
thats a hell of a bullbar on ethans truck
It's Casey's truck
It’s a understand others and feel free to freedom of speech they all need to listen to
To quote Ike from Bonehead Truckers "durk a durka durk"
Move so he dont slide into you
I hate Casey Ladelle!! Lol. Good job, Casey!
Scene safety.
Courtesy later.
Can’t help but wonder … did our genius actually put chains on only one side, or did he forget to tighten them and lose half of them?
He purposely only put them on the side that dot would see when driving by
Then he didn't want to put on all his chains. Dangerous driver.
I doubt that Casey would answer the question about his charges as he'd then be poached by his competitors. BUT Casey if you wouldn't mind I'd like to know if I'm High or Low. NOTHING about how much either way even if it's just by a few quarters. (Other wise it would give too much away about the charges and the competitors would know too much.
Going on that you said it was a two hour drive to get there I came up with the round trip being around 170 miles. Going with that I asked my neighbor about his big Volvo truck's mileage is and he said he gets around 7.5 most trips. Being he runs on short hills not doing mountains I cut your mileage down to 7 mpg. Using that I came up with the tractor using around 25 gallons at $4.40 (guestimate for diesel prices there) for $110 fuel cost for it. Then Ethan driving the other truck would probably be around 10 gallons for $44. Then the labor costs......... a real mess (in my mind anyway) on how much you pay yourself and Ethan. Having that said I came out with $125 / hour for the both of you. I figured 5 hours total which makes labor charges $625. Adding all that up I figure that you gave him a quote for between $775.
As for @MUSTANGGT12 is that a real question about the chains on the tailor? ALSO in you calling as many tow companies as you can you should know that any of them that show up will probably charge you.
That’s my minimum charge if you were stuck in the ditch just outside my driveway. For something like this you can double it. You’re forgetting about the $300k truck that costs $20k per year to insure, well over $1k per month to register, a couple thousand a month to maintain, and has tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear in it. Doing that job for $1,000 would be losing money.
@@CaseyLaDelle Guessing that I was way wrong .... But I knew it had to be LOTs more than the $200 some one else posted.
