Dear Santa (2024) Sucks! - Movie Review

Man... I hated this movie. Dear Santa is Jack Black at his lowest. Nothing to laugh at, and damn near nothing to enjoy.

Gotta agree Fro. The film felt forced, very cringe, and it was almost like the script was written by a ChatBot.

They stole a bit from Wellington Paranormal and made it a terrible film. The child acting was awful, probably due to the writing and directing. “Here kid, put these fake teeth in your mouth and start acting, no need to practice.” Liam was not ready for prime time. The dad was probably the worst actor in the whole film though, and he got a TON of screen time. And who was it even for? At times it seemed like it was for religious children but the raunchy jokes were more Andrew dice clay.

Dear Santa had its moments, but it struggled to fully deliver on its potential. Jack Black’s portrayal of Satan was definitely a highlight, showcasing his signature comedic energy and charm. The unique premise-a kid accidentally summoning Satan instead of Santa-had promise and offered some quirky humor. However, the execution fell flat in many areas. The tone was inconsistent, and the jokes often felt more cringe-worthy than clever. The soul-selling subplot, while intriguing, seemed out of place for a holiday film centered on an 11-year-old.
The ending, while attempting to tie things together, came off as overly chaotic and lacked emotional impact. That said, there were a few heartfelt moments and solid performances from the cast. It’s a fun watch if you don’t take it too seriously, but it could have been so much more with better writing and a clearer vision.
