We owe so much to Buzz and Neil. When I was a kid we had a saying for something impossible: “You can no more do that than you can go to the moon.” After July 20, 1969 we could never use that phrase again.
A man who is very difficult to romanticize, maybe because of his bunch of hard-earned hard science competences. Entrepreunering extremely difficult things for the very first time cannot be attempted without a measure of romanticism, but actually finalizing them can only be accomplished by this kind of men acting to infuse even romantic traits and features with a solid, logical, unerring frame of coherence. In no Country but the USA would such a gifted man end up as a used car dealer after all he was able to accomplish. That suggests an unforgiving environment to move in where - no matter what you have already accomplished - you must forever keep yourself on your toes, and keep fighting to the end. And so he keeps doing, even in his old age. This makes his full, own one-third of the Apollo 11 legend up.
Buzz understood the need for reusable heavy lift rockets before Elon Musk ever thought about going into space. History has proven the wisdom of his beliefs.
Buzz is a highly intelligent man. I've always admired him. To get a doctorate in his specialty from MIT, you have to be. Hence an obvious reason why he was chosen for Apollo 11.
According to Neil’s First Man author, sources, like Frank Borman rejected Aldrin as a teammate due to his lack of social skills. Armstrong accepted him, because he had worked with Aldrin previously, and because he thought his offered replacement, Lovell, deserved his own command, after Apollo 8 as CMP.

I'm not sure that's right.. I think it was done as per procedure, but due to a bit of unlucky timing in when exactly they turned the landing radar on, the LM guidance computer's memory was overloaded causing the alarms. The hardware was fixed for later missions, rather than a checklist change (I think)
Buzz seems vulnerable here, and the interviewer keeps stoping him from completeing his thoughts, trying to make himself (the interviewer) important. Yes it SEEMS like a cool xchange, but theater is not what was bwing attempted. Not by Aldrin. He didn't need a director.
Gene Cernan was one of the astronauts that always made fun of Aldrin behind his back. Everyone called him "Dr. Rendezvous" because apparently that was all he talked about at parties and such. Cernan named his cat Dr. Rendezvous lol. That being said, Cernan was the only non test pilot to command an Apollo mission only because Mike Collins turned down the mission.

Collins was tired of the grind of training and told Slayton that if Apollo 11 was successful, it would be his last mission. As a matter of fact, I seem to remember Cernan mentioning in his book that when he turned down a LM position on Apollo 16 to try to command 17 (which was successful by the way) he later heard that Collins was the first choice and turned it down and doubted that he (Cernan) would have tried if he had known that.

I think what’s meant here is the interesting fact his peers had the ept perception his peers regarded him as a bore. Not that Buzz is interesting. I agree he is a bore.
My uncle says we did not go to the moon and he always says the buzz Aldrin looks really pissed off when he’s asked questions my uncle said it’s impossible to get past the radiation belt and when John Lear was asked back in like 2018 if we were going to to go back back to the moon in 22 or one, he said, of course, not because we never went at all
@@doctorcofrin851 John Lear didn't work on Apollo. Tell you uncle that the Van Allen belts are very narrow, occupying a fraction of the path between the Earth and the Moon. Due to its trajectory and speed, the Saturn V rocket went through the outer portions of the belts in less than 2 hours, so the dose of radiation was within safety limits. Each mission flew a slightly different course in order to access its landing site, but the orbital inclination of the translunar coast trajectory was inclined to the Earth’s equator by about 30°. A spacecraft following that trajectory would bypass all but the edges of the Van Allen belts. Low energy electrons were the main ionising particles that the astronauts had to navigate through and not electromagnetic waves e.g. ultraviolet, infrared, gamma etc. Electrons can pass through living tissue without creating much damage as they are very small. The command module’s outer hull was made of stainless steel and the (upper) heat shield from epoxy resin, which along with the fibrous insulation between the inner and outer hulls was a very effective form of shielding against protonic radiation.
