How Cheese Is Made Around the World

- If there’s one food that everybody around the world loves, it’s cheese. Great Big Story’s resident cheese connoisseur and senior producer Beryl Shereshewsky introduces us to seven cheesemakers in seven countries, who show us their take on cheese. We sample all of it, of course-from Serbia’s donkey cheese to Wisconsin’s cheese curds to Sardinia’s casu marzu, full of maggots. Not to be outdone, Shereshewsky invites us into her New York City home where she makes the India’s paneer for the first time, using her mother-in-law’s recipe.

cheese flavored maggots are basically wild cheetos

OMG I actually laughed out loud. I mean I didn't "lol" I fucking cackled like a wicked being. I bet they would be good deep fried.

Ikr? Like honey it doesn't matter if the maggot ate cheese or GOLD. They are still MAGGOTS MY DUDE
That’s like saying you ate a cow that only ate grass so technically you are only eating grass. 🤣

That gentleman from Nepal is just a big softie and I appreciate that.

Out of curiosity, is poutine popular in Wisconsin? I'm quebecois and I'm very surprised that poutine isn't more popular in the US.
So, I'm from sardinia and the maggot cheese feels very boring against cheese curds. Like, they squeak? Wth I wanna try that
@@Toukan1 No it's not. I've never had it or even seen a place that sells it
@@Rosenbool It's basically the same for me. Like, cheese curds are great but I eat them all the time, and I'd love to try the maggot cheese. And yes, really fresh cheese curds squeak, that's how you know they're good
Toukan you know, I’ve really wanted to try poutine. I’ve known of a place that served it (ran by a Canadian family, of course.) it is not all that popular here, sadly. I bet it would make a great party tray.
Some guy: The flavor comes from the work that the fly does.
The fly: It's not much, but it's honest work.
Why why why.... why do I find this comment so bizarrely hilarious!!

I know that is weird but trust me everything else in Sardinia is beautiful and amazing
every cheese maker: We use rennet to thicken our cheese
Americans: E N Z Y M E S
If you eat cream cheese, then you have had an American cheese. There are so many original American cheeses. Pinconning, colby, cream cheese, monterrey jack, pepperjack, maytag, shaker blue, driftless, capricious, humboldt fog, farmer, hoop, brick, red hawk, teleme, kunik, verano, invierno, dry jack, grayson, tarentaise, bluebird, cornerstone, harbison, donbarton blue, bellavitano, coupole, capriole sofia, hoja santa, and cayuga blue. These are only some of the cheeses invented in the US
Rennet is enzymes so eh

fair point but also if you're someone who loves the cheese you make, wouldn't you also call it the best? it's not like he's handing out awards or talking down on other cheese-makers. at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste and often sentimental value. we tend to love the foods we grew up eating.
Limited American world view😂
That Nepalese cheese looks like something I'd snack on from time to time.
Nice
Yeah once you eat it you can't get enough of it it's so delicious
Yes, it’s a snack if it’s hard.
some are really hard so those ones lasts longer but doesn't make a good eating but the softer ones are nice.

I wonder if there's cheese made out of chocolate milk
If only I could report you for being such a fuckin guiness... no sarcasm or jokes... you got my mind turning XD

I'll take a wild guess and say the chocolate has a negative effect on the caseine, as in it doesn't let it work or makes it too hard.
You mean chocolate pudding?
Static Shock I wouldn’t say it’s made out of chocolate milk, but I’m from Wisconsin and chocolate cheese is actually pretty common at a lot of cheese factories.
I’m so surprised to see that Serbia is on the list :D it’s a very underrated and not much talked about country, glad it’s getting a bit of attention even though basically no one in the comments is talking about it
@Andrija Kostic is donkey cheese expensive?

The fact that she managed to fly across the globe just to report cheese amazes me. Maybe she was reporting multiple things aside from cheese from each region too, but that kind of management skill is just awe-inspiring.

Just a quick note “a morte sua” (11:54)in Italian means that the best way to consume the cheese should be with melon an prosciutto, as in “that’s how is supposed to die” implying that the combination of the flavours is the perfect way for the cheese to cease to exist(get eaten)
Jesus. Translating that is like hacking into something lol
I mean, I understand. It's hard to translate national phrases. In hungarian there is a saying that goes:"Jajj de enni való!" Which basically means:"It's so cute, that Iwant to eat it."
...yeah-
BenjaMint yeah i get what you are saying sometimes it’s necessary to make some compromises with all the different expressions in the languages, i do work sometimes as a translator for my town tribunal and it often gets pretty tricky , also in this cases it’s more of an adaptation than a literal translation and I did find it well fitting, but i wanted to tell the real meaning ^_^

Be excreted out (meaning be pooped out of)

Go to the cheese

As an Indian, the paneer seems to really dwarf itself in comparison to the rest of the cheeses here.
As great as our food is, the Indian climate has always proved the production of fermented foods like cheese and wine difficult.
Paneer is the best we could come up with and it's mostly only popular among vegetarians as a meat substitute. Apart from Palak paneer, you can easily swap out the paneer in any dish with chicken cubes and greatly enhance its flavor
