My best long shots have always been when I feel like I accidentally released early...when I say "oh crap" after releasing...and then "oh wow, that was really good!". The more I think, the worse I do.
A few years ago I became irritated at myself for running out of strength, stability, etc etc on shots beyond 60-70 yards because I was holding too long. ( 68 years old then). I made myself shoot a lot more that particular spring and really got into shooting shape. My whole purpose was to be able to be in control for like up 10-15 full seconds or longer. The idea was to be able to hold and control for whatever hunting scenario a deer or whatever might or might NOT give me. I became very accomplished at this. But have never thought of what message you’re sending in this video. Our shot timing can be very relevant to good shooting but I see so many that obviously have never considered it. Cool video AGAIN, Mr. 👍👍
It came down for me, my strength, 61 years old, I work the muscle’s important to shooting. So on my weight lifting that’s how I train. It made a difference nothing to do with how long I hold on target.
I was a state champion NFAA spot shooter competing in the Nationals several times I would've loved to had a teacher like you a few videos ago your advice with the flat hand anchoring was amazing thank you for your great content!!!!!!
I was new to archery last year... went from brand new to beating half the people I shot 3D with within a couple months and believe it was from watching your videos and actually practising what John teaches.. thanks john!! from bow set up to form ect, its like having my own person coach haha
It makes a lot of sense what you're saying cause longer the shot. The more fatigue you get, so staying at your normal pace, the better the shot. Thanks for the video, and seeing That my thought processes is correct.
It’s like free throw shooting or hitting a golf ball… same thing every time. And the longer your hold, the weirder things usually get because of that inner dialogue
You use the parachute method, as I like to call it. They count the time before pulling the ring, which is a good way to distract the mind from shooting, by the way. The main challenge is how to pull back with the back hand and push forward with the front hand simultaneously. I have developed a rotary shooting technique where these two movements are combined into one. You need to turn your shoulders so that they are aligned with the arrow at the same time. At that moment, it happens.
Been working on that very problem. Say to myself, "You are in, fire". This back tension release does not work for me. I stay way too long in the aiming cycle, start shaking in the end. Usually it will be a lower ring score. If I'm in the gold, or whatever I'm shooting at, I will force the shot, sometimes with a verbal order to shoot!!. Done in maximum 5 seconds, frequently 3. Sounds wrong, but it works for me.
If I'm using anything but a hinge target panic does the opposite to me lol. I relax into the float of the shot, and process, better at 60+ than I do at 20. I think it's because the pin covers everything at long distance so my focus is more on framing the target than focusing on the dot. On a Vegas face at 20 I become hyper aware of pin movement across the face and it disrupts me because my conscious brain wants to try to tweak and wait like it's going to slow it down before it'll activate the shot process
There was a point in time where I could have sworn you talked about working with Ai. I’m hoping that means that you plan to have a chat bot trained exclusively your entire body of content. We really need that because you have more knowledge and content than a person could watch , read or listen to in a lifetime.
@@nockonarchery you do a good job brother helping archers I wish your videos were out when I started brother over 20 years ago!!! Thanks for everything you do for archery and for archers!!!!
Thanks for the Video. I’m 58 and setting up a new bow. Struggling with my eyesight and want to make some adjustments. I use a verifier to clear up my pins but my vision at distance is now starting to go. I was thinking of trying contacts for distance and adjusting my verifier. Any advice?

Draw, anchor, focus, release. The quicker I go through my process the better the shot. Within reason obviously.
Thanks coach!

This is good advice
I didn't know this was a problem. Lol, I guess I'm happy I was doing it right from the start.

Explain very well fellas! 😉
Glad you think so!

Do you use a lense in your sight for long shots
Trust the float and send the boat!
That was slow
