Polovtsian Dances was a great discovery made by me at 5 years old , time I lived beside my Phillips stereo console among piles of vynils. I heard it "millions" of times , I could never get enough of this inspiring Borodin's work.
Wow! I as well, at about the same age also but it was on an RCA tube console with great bass response that made me really feel the music. I listened to this countless times from a now long out of print 33 vinyl called Music from the Far East.
Same here, caused a great impression on me when I was about 8 , was lucky to have musical older brothers with vinyl records. This piece was one of the most engaging and that made me love classical music forever.
A popular song of the 1950s "Stranger in Paradise" from the musical Kismet (1953), is credited to Robert Wright and George Forrest, but the melody is adapted from this music composed by Alexander Borodin (1833-1887). It is called, in English, the "Gliding Dance of the Maidens", from the opera Prince Igor (1890). The children singing it here and the mostly young people in the orchestra, brought me to tears ... R (Australia)
They were able to copy Borodin because he had long passed away and it was out of copyright. Dishonourable that they didn't acknowledge their debt to Borodin, this would not have cost anything but would be good manners.
@@beowulf1312 What do you mean, they didn't acknowledge their debt to Borodin??? I'm looking at the cover of the original cast album (starring Alfred Drake), and it clearly credits Borodin above Wright and Forrest. Verbatim, it reads: "With Music from Alexander Borodin, Musical Adaptation and Lyrics by Robert Wright and George Forrest." And so far as I know, they always gave credit to Borodin for the original music, just as they openly gave credit to Edvard Grieg for the music they adapted for the musical, "Song of Norway." The only dishonorable thing I see here is your unjustified slander. In future, I recommend you check your facts before attacking people who are not alive to defend themselves. This would not cost you anything but would be good manners!
Musique fantastique. Et de wualuté, quoique tournentée et cettainnement assez difficile pour des musiciens chevronnés , encore plus pour des jeunes chanteurs lyriques....mrci à tous et bravo!!!!
@@OldManReadsPoetry-yc6ztunfortunately there are too many examples of American pop “adaptations” of Russian music, especially songs. The 2 most famous are “Ochi chiornie” ( Очи чёрные) and “Ехали на тройке с бубенцами”, with completely new lyrics, not even remotely close to originals. Even Charles Aznavour changed lyrics of “Эх раз, ещё раз…” Tchaikovsky’s music has been mutilated by Hollywood too many times to mention. And very famous Glinka waltz was attributed to someone else. I could continue, but hopefully, you get my point.
These children are so talented. I have seen adult symphonic orchestras give it barley enough justice but these children would make Borodin simply proud.... I can't believe no stand up ovation.
Great civilization is no doubting, the one which occupies his children in such complex art, at such tender ages… We can’t ask for more perfection, can we? My best congratulations to you all.
What a performance! I'm in love with these kids and these young musicians. May Russia be blessed for having offered the world so much beauty, emotion and talent.
I first heard this at a Prom concert about 70 years ago, the start of my lifelong love of Russian music, and admiration for Alexander Borodin, full time professor of medical chemistry and part time composer.
Yes, it is amazing to think that this wonderful piece (and many others) was composed by a professional chemist who wrote music as a HOBBY! What a gift he had!
What a beautiful performance by a wonderful group of young human beings! There is still hope for mankind...I think. As long as we are in the hands of people like them!
Superb... It’s been 55 years that I listen to this sublime score of Borodin, and the chance to have seen him heard and danced by the Kirov, what happiness, these young people are the unfailing next generation of great and beautiful Russian culture. Thanks to them.
I've been listening to this piece since I was an early teen. This is the most marvelous rendition of Polovtsian Dances I have ever heard. And all those young people! I had tears of joy streaming down my cheeks at 68 yrs old.
Look at those beautiful children enjoying singing, thankyou Russia for your music ,am a lefthander &, in Spain bought a genuine Russian Balalaika €20 .--easy for me !
The emotional involvement of some of these young singers is mesmerizing. They obviously feel the power of the piece and, I suppose, sense the Russian soul that permeates the music. Astounding !
That's so true! It is refreshing to see such feeling and expression. One can easily see the same expressivity in the instrumentalists as well! Both conductors deserve a lot of credit for inspiring their students.
An amazing performance! By children no less! One of my (many) favorites. This particular version is one of the best I have ever heard. From Michigan, USA.
Un grand merci pour cette chorale. Cette musique cette chorale nous vient du paradis. Elle est pure et cristalline comme l.ame russe. Merci a l.orchestre merci aux choralistes qui nous ont fait passer un moment angelique. Gloire au peuple russe
To to see those young children give of their best was great to see, they were so driven and totally immersed in their music making, unselfconscious and engaged, well done and thank you.
When I taught upper elementary math 50 years ago, I used to play recordings of my classical favorites. Many kids picked up on it and developed an enthusiasm for such fine music. This YT selection is off the charts! I'm sure it could leave a beautiful lasting impression on any young people fortunate enough to experience it.
It's leaders that destroy countries and their image around the world. Russia has very rich culture. It's a shame they have a madman like Trump in power.
I am mesmerized. amazed and... absolutely captivated by these children, who have proved to be as fantastic and competent as... excellent adult singers! Please also note that the great orchestra here has a number of young players!
when i was young in the 60s we had a school orchestra and choir in a sec mod school , sadlyi dont think the young today have that , adore this video this was first piece of classical music i ever fell in love with at 8yrs old
A joy to listen to from these young children. Full credit must also be given to the Orchestra. It is very moving and I cannot stop listening and watching it. All children come from God, these children are angels.

Greetings from South Texas! It's amazing to see young people performing with such high quality. In our part of the USA, classical music has been done away with. Music here is only to make noise for sporting events and border music. Children in elementary school are mostly taught one instrument--percussion.

From Texas USA. These young Russians do Borodin justice. They are wonderful!
Seguro que esas chicas y chicos harían justicia también a Rimsy-Korsakov, pero en este caso se trata de Borodin.
