DangerVille Honestly I’ve been a huge Godzilla fan for a long time now and 30 but my grandfather was a huge Godzilla fan even when I was little in this version of Godzilla came out I knew that it was wrong and terrible don’t put me on a crucifix but that’s just not Godzilla I’m glad I didn’t make the second one I’m sad they made the first one
One of the rare memories of my childhood is actually watching this movie in a cheap hotel near the sea in the middle of the night, I was so scared of Godzilla so I started wondering around the room my parents were sleeping and I felt so alone, good times...
If I remember correctly, there was actually a cartoon series made that replaced the sequel. same design, same characters, and same plot. i used to watch cause i personally loved the '98 version of godzilla. a terrified creature reawakening into a new era. of course most of the destruction is gonna be accidental. a bull in a china shop is pretty accurate tbh
The cartoon acknowledge the 1998 movie mistake and corrected itself by having our main protag Zilla Jr. kill the abomination for the 2nd time before og Godzilla in Final Wars does it to another species.
While I didn't like Godzilla (1998), I genuinely think this sequel would have redeemed it for me. The plot was amazing, the heartbreaking moment when the runt is killed but then it's revealed he never died, Godzilla fighting the queen insectoid, and all that. Amazing. Just amazing.
@Amanley Load I loved Godzilla as a kid, and actually really disliked the show then because it was so different from the godzilla I was used to. I was looking at it as a 10 year old fan boy. Looking back, I can really see how Godzilla '98 really got hosed because we wouldn't give him a chance.
@Amanley Load Watched it as a kid on Fox (along with other unheard of stuff like Cybersix), the theme song was and still is incredible. I'm thankful we have the cartoon instead of just a single movie. While it is for kids (and suffers some for it) it gave us a whole HOST of weird monsters to appreciate which makes it 100% worth it imo.
Amanley Load well I’ll give it an excuse, because the cartoon got lost in a scuffle between Pokemon and Digimon and they had to run some pushed ideas such as a time travel episode, a Mercenary episode, and a mystery episode. Because they did it to stay on air. Eventually after 38 episodes aired 3 unreleased they wrapped production
I honestly prefer this one. I love this movie, in part because I was like 10 years old when I watched it in cinema for the first time and pretty much everything was awesome for me at this time. But even these days when I catch it on HBO I still enjoy it. It's the ultimate blockbuster; spectacular, with light humour and likable characters. Its only fault was that it was called Godzilla and people had certain expectations.

I recall a video talking about this and what they concluded was this: It got hate because the story isn’t Godzilla. The point of Godzilla was always that he was too strong for human weapons. He usually was the good guy in the movies, where this movie he was the antagonist, destroying New York for no apparent reason. I believe the original actor for Godzilla walked out during the screening because he was bothered that “Americans can’t seem to tolerate a monster that their weapons can’t beat”. It made Godzilla out to be a giant lizard acting like an animal. He has one moment of complex thought, and it was when he outsmarted the fighter jets in the city. Other than that, Godzilla acts on animal instinct. Personally I loved the movie but I’m also biased because it was my first Godzilla movie and I just love monster movies in general.

Way better that 99% of the "TOTAL CRAP", thats been spewing forth from Hollywood in the last few years. Also, I believe it was helicopters....not jets, but its been a long time. Peace. ^_^

It’s just a case of being hated for being different. It wasn’t a terrible movie and likely would have been a hit had they names it anything other than Godzilla. Not fantastic cinema but a good popcorn movie.
I remember watching Godzilla 1998 when I was a kid, I actually liked the design and different take on the monster. Never really understood why they didn’t create a sequel.
He would have, he even approved the script. I think towards the early 2000s Roland changed quite a bit. He started moving from realism to down right insanity

Whether you like the movie or not, let’s not kid ourselves. Zilla may not be Godzilla. But his design is awesome and he stands out as his own character.

A far more emotional finale than the 98 Godzilla. Too bad it didn't get developed, but I don't think it's ever too late. Could always do a scene of Broderick encountering the baby in NY in 98 and jump to 2023 for the rest of the movie.

This was the first Godzilla movie I watched as a child and immediately fell in love with . When I saw the OG GODZILLA I was pissed like what's this chunky lizard and then I realized that was the OG . I still love the Godzilla cartoon animated show which was way cool than anything else I saw as a kid❤️🔥
If Godzilla 1998 would have had any other name it would have been a success. But people wanted to see Godzilla being a badass not just an animal. I liked the movie and the design also, though I understand why there are people who didn't.
@@alexandrumoraras It's not all about the design though. Even though it doesn't look like classic Godzilla, I didn't hear the general audiences complaining about the look in 1998. There was tons of hype up until everyone saw the quality of the movie. It had a lot of the issues that is typical of a Roland Emmerich directed film. No problem if you enjoy the film, but people hate this film for many reasons, not just the look of Zilla.
Just seeing this video now in 2022. Let me tell you that you guys actually did a great job making this feel like a “thing” by showing background clips. I probably enjoyed this more than I should have.

I personally loved this film and it was also my introduction to Godzilla as a kid. I still remember going to the theaters to watch this with my aunt when I was 5yrs old, it was such an exhilarating experience! My only genuine complaint about this film was that they had to kill Godzilla in the end, no necessary 👎🏽
Catzilla64 I agree. Godzilla 98 definitely isn’t the worst Godzilla movie, but I have to say I actually like Godzilla vs Hedorah for its psychedelic atmosphere and self aware humor. Godzilla vs Gigan was a snooze fest though.
Finally another G-98 fan. I would have loved to see a sequel to it. I've been trying to find the series on DVD. My granddaughter loves anything "Dino" related and it'd be a perfect b-day present
@@darthnihilus3447 Thus far nothing has been announced. It makes more sense to hype up Godzilla vs Kong and make it seem like the last one as it will generate hype for some sort of finale. But as long as it does well i think it's fare to asume it will only mark the end of Phase one. Doubt that Legendary will end the series there as there's alot of money to be made from a continuing monsterverse with other monsters getting stand alone films. Maybe a Kong Sequel. Maybe a Mothra prequel? And there are other monsters they could try to make movies for and even try to bring into the Monsterverse. No reason to end it there unless Toho refuses to renew any contracts.
I don't doubt that Shin Godzilla will get a sequel at some point. But Toho seems to not want to compete with themselves so the idea seems to be to not release a Godzilla film the same year as Legendary. Shin came out after the 2014 reboot from Legendary. Then there where the anime movies that where pretty ok. And then King of the Monsters and now Godzilla vs Kong later this year. Might be that Legendary will take a few years off after the epic monster showdown and that will be when Toho steps in with another Godzilla movie. Shin Godzilla 2 or something. Or they might start a new line of movies again following the original as a direct serquel ignoring every other sequel again like they've done for every era of Godzilla other then with Shin Godzilla. As long as Toho makes more i'm going to be happy. As much as i love Legendary's Godzilla... There's just something about Toho's Godzilla that can't be beat. I love all of the old movies. Even the real shitty ones where Godzilla dances and does Karate and learns to fly etc etc... Godzilla is Amazing! But alot of them are genuinly good as well.
I really like the Godzilla 1998 so much, because I can watch the diverse Godzilla from Japan origin look and they both serve both look amazing. Moreover, the sequel is so hype me up when I listened to the story. It would have been a giant movie if it was made but sadly they didn't made it :(
I honestly think that this movie is a really good monster movie. Imagine if they hadn't name this Godzilla. It simply would be the best movie in 1998. And also, imagine if they used Zilla in the Monsterverse. And my version of his story would be involved him in the GvK. My version GvK plot is because of this Zilla. Because of the Ghidorah's action in KOTM, all the titans has awakened. Remember the '54 nuclear test? They're trying to kill Godzilla and that blue flying liquid monster. And guess what? -It was me- Zilla is the result. A humanity's titan. Zilla hear the calling. But just like Kong, he is so independent and intelligent so he ignore his calling. After spending a long time hidding beneath the sea, growing and hunting, he finally rise up and ready to produce its own kind. But, he choose the wrong island. He's nesting on Skull Island. All of his egg have hatched. Skull Island now is in a completely ness. This drive Kong going nuts. To see his home wrecked and scattered. Things getting out of hand, all the zilla junior is starting to hunting for themself. A lot of people of the island including Monarch staff getting killed. Suprisingly, even a juvenile Skullcrawler can't stop them. After find out about the source of this problem, finally Kong meet Zilla. The two had a fight. But Kong is not a match for Zilla. Zilla starting to running in agony. When the two titans arrived at the beach, Godzilla appears. Godzilla's height shocked the shit out of Zilla. Then he escape to the sea. Godzilla and Kong facing each other. Kong give him warning not to enter his territory. But as far as we know, Godzilla lack of fucks. ....I'm out of idea guys, keep it going if you can

He's great with special effects, terrible with story and character development. I think so many of his films are unwatchable, even with the great special effects.
The 1998 Godzilla movie was an enormous part of my childhood and I still treasure it even today, but to be honest after you guys gave the lowdown on how the sequel would've turned out I actually would've absolutely adored it and would've definitely wanted it to be made so that the previous one wouldn't have been stuck with that cliff hanger. The story line is incredible and I just love the relationship that Nick had with the new Godzilla, deep down I knew that Nick still cared just as I thought he would. I may not have ever seen Godzilla: The Series when I was a kid but I have seen only a few episodes online so now thanks to you guys and this video I completely understand how it would've played out in the sequel if they did make it but I think that the tv series was just as impressive and wonderfully made, even though I never officially saw it on tv. So yes, I do wish that they made the sequel to the 1998 film but in reality I just want Godzilla's legacy to continue on far into the future with both Legendary and Toho productions. I grew up with this Godzilla and absolutely LOVE him, especially the one in the animated series! I so would've enjoyed a sequel or trilogy attempted like this to the film. The animated series though is amazing and I am thrilled that we got that! Wish this Godzilla had been more widely enjoyed/accepted even with him being pretty different from the classic films. The animated series was so awesome. Zilla Jr. was epic and really put up a fight and I loved his atomic breath color. It's a shame people don't like this version of Godzilla because I would've loved to see this movie if it came out. 1998 Godzilla is what introduced me to Godzilla as a kid so it holds a special place in my heart and I've always loved the design of Zilla. It was my first Godzilla movie so I have a special place for it and I would probably hate all the others if it wasn't for it. But it had a really good animated series which is the closet thing we will ever get to a sequel to Godzilla (1998).
For me, it definitely has the possibility of being good, but in the end it's still made by the same team behind Godzilla '98. So even if your general story is good, the awkward late-90s Godzilla crew is there making terrible decisions. Maybe getting rid of Godzilla 2 was for the best and to give the audience a break. Giving Godzilla a break while also getting an entirely new crew for the next film years later would give a much-needed revamp to the character. It's also interesting on how this would've changed the later Godzilla movies. Toho said they wouldn't have made another Godzilla movie until 2005 which meant no GMK or the Kiryu saga. And we might've never had the MonsterVerse which meant we never would have had TWO Godzilla/Kong crossovers for that matter or maybe Legendary Pictures wouldn't be interested in remaking a proper Godzilla movie at all, if we already had three American films from 1998-2003. So maybe this movie was better off canceled.
A condensed version of the series, I feel that even If that released it wouldn't be as successful as Animated Series, because of the first movie It's a great concept, I love it, its like a later Showa movie mixed with abit of Heisei
Wow, dude, I was thinking about this today! I want to know what the hell happened to the sequel. Critics hated this film and garnered negative reviews, but has become a cult classic. I saw this in theaters when I was 8 years old!
I would say the majority of general audiences hated this movie too, not just critics. It made $136 million in 1998. It has the reputation because it's notoriously a bad movie. But I don't think it can be considered a cult classic if made $380 million worldwide on a $130 million budget. That's kind of the opposite of cult classic :). It didn't do poor at the box office, there was just a huge negative reception. Nothing wrong with you enjoying it. But those are the numbers.

What’s funny is I’ve seen animated series and they almost copied that in the first episode. He finds the hatchling and it imprints on him. I like that show.
In the 1st Godzilla of the new Godzilla’s they made it “similar” to the 98 and the unmade Godzilla which is awesome. They used everything just in different ways making it a new story still.
Xenosaurian No. he means Zilla. The real Godzilla is in the Japanese and most recent American films. One of the original creators even said, “This film took the God, out of Godzilla”. And besides, calling him that is easier and helps differentiate him from the main Godzilla.

I personally *don't care* what anyone says: I truly *LOVE* "Godzilla 1998" for what it is! :) Though I too AM truly understanding as to why a good amount of hardcore G-Fans want to dis-associate ti with the King of the Monsters we've all come to know and love. I'm familiar with this unmade sequel to 1998, too. It DOES have a lot of story and character potential, and it rectifies some of the lack of trademark Godzilla traits as far as where its titular Kaiju is concerned. Good work, you guys! :)
The only thing wrong with this movie is the title. I loved the film, but also understand why so many Godzilla fans hated it. Sadly, I felt the recent Godzilla: King of Monsters was a horrible movie, so I can relate.
Toe Cutter I more or less feel the same way. Now I personally wouldn't call "King of the Monsters (2019)" horrible, per say, though I too feel it isn't as good as "Godzilla 2014."
This Godzilla was the first to introduce me to the giant monster, I loved this movie and I really wish they would have done more. I still love the originals and do agree they are better in some ways, but this one will always have a place in my heart. its a shame they didn't just go for it and make the squeal, really could have made the universe expand much more.
That series was actually my first introduction to Godzilla, aside from the watch mojo videos but still that series was what first made me watch a bunch of godzilla stuff!
@@noahk5397 Okay, *I* think its better than the movie. The series was not perfect (perfection doesn't exist) but it was leagues better than the film, which I found Godzilla's redesign to be probably the only good thing about it. Again, that's just me.

I am so thankful for Mystery Science Theater 3000 because it allowed me to see Godzilla through the Shōwa/Heisei era of movies as my introductory films.
The story is decent. However, the dingo chase-scene is goofy, and the mass consumption of civillians would raise the MPAA rating to a level not acceptable to the execs.

Because it wasn't a Godzilla movie. It was Roland Emmerich trying to ape Jurassic Park- badly. The military shouldn't be effective in a Godzilla Movie. In Godzilla Movies, the military is ineffective at best, and totally a waste to time otherwise. He had a Godzilla with no breath weapon- really? This wasn't a Godzilla movie, it was a standard monster/disaster movie. Godzilla/Gojira should NEVER be a standard Godzilla/Disaster movie. It's offensive to one of the oldest continuous Movie series in film.

Me personally, i like this version on the creature better than the original godzilla, as far as the creature design goes.

Honestly, I think if this movie was made, It would have really healed TriStar’s bad rep from the first movie. This genuinely a fun concept and I know I would have watched this over and over. The tragedy of Zilla’s babies and the similarity with the TV show. Too bad we didn’t get it
Production budgets don't include marketing costs, which are usually 50%-100% of production budgets. This movie did only make a slim profit from ticket sales, but merchandising numbers aren't included either.

Fan made post credits scene cause why not: We cut to a few months after the whole queen b incident, Antarctica, some scientists were exploring a recently discovered cave, however as they entered more and more into the cave, they discovered something, shocking, it was a massive dragon like creature, it was around twice the size of godzilla, and it had 3 heads, cut to black.

If I remember correctly, there was actually a cartoon series made that replaced the sequel. same design, same characters, and same plot. i used to watch cause i personally loved the '98 version of godzilla. a terrified creature reawakening into a new era. of course most of the destruction is gonna be accidental. a bull in a china shop is pretty accurate tbh

The 90's loved those movie based cartoons. I've heard the show is ok. The 1998 movie was garbage. It felt more like the Lost World than Godzilla.
The cartoon acknowledge the 1998 movie mistake and corrected itself by having our main protag Zilla Jr. kill the abomination for the 2nd time before og Godzilla in Final Wars does it to another species.
While I didn't like Godzilla (1998), I genuinely think this sequel would have redeemed it for me. The plot was amazing, the heartbreaking moment when the runt is killed but then it's revealed he never died, Godzilla fighting the queen insectoid, and all that. Amazing. Just amazing.
Also showing Godzilla is an ever evolving species from generation to generation

Looking back, I can really see how Godzilla '98 really got hosed because we wouldn't give him a chance.
@Amanley Load Watched it as a kid on Fox (along with other unheard of stuff like Cybersix), the theme song was and still is incredible. I'm thankful we have the cartoon instead of just a single movie. While it is for kids (and suffers some for it) it gave us a whole HOST of weird monsters to appreciate which makes it 100% worth it imo.
Amanley Load well I’ll give it an excuse, because the cartoon got lost in a scuffle between Pokemon and Digimon and they had to run some pushed ideas such as a time travel episode, a Mercenary episode, and a mystery episode. Because they did it to stay on air. Eventually after 38 episodes aired 3 unreleased they wrapped production

This was the first Godzilla movie I ever watched... I thought it was good until i saw the other godzilla movies
I honestly prefer this one. I love this movie, in part because I was like 10 years old when I watched it in cinema for the first time and pretty much everything was awesome for me at this time. But even these days when I catch it on HBO I still enjoy it. It's the ultimate blockbuster; spectacular, with light humour and likable characters. Its only fault was that it was called Godzilla and people had certain expectations.

Never understood why this Godzilla film got so much, it was one of my favorite movies growing up, and still stands as a good film today despite avocado Godzilla being fairly good itself
The reason it got the hate was because It was named Godzilla and people's expectations were on top of the roof but tje Godzilla in this one had bad design like he looked like a dinosaur and not an overgrown Iguana And then he was too weak and he breathed Fire instead Of atomic breath Makinh him really weak

It got hate because the story isn’t Godzilla. The point of Godzilla was always that he was too strong for human weapons. He usually was the good guy in the movies, where this movie he was the antagonist, destroying New York for no apparent reason. I believe the original actor for Godzilla walked out during the screening because he was bothered that “Americans can’t seem to tolerate a monster that their weapons can’t beat”. It made Godzilla out to be a giant lizard acting like an animal. He has one moment of complex thought, and it was when he outsmarted the fighter jets in the city. Other than that, Godzilla acts on animal instinct.
Personally I loved the movie but I’m also biased because it was my first Godzilla movie and I just love monster movies in general.

@@alexandrumoraras It's not all about the design though. Even though it doesn't look like classic Godzilla, I didn't hear the general audiences complaining about the look in 1998. There was tons of hype up until everyone saw the quality of the movie. It had a lot of the issues that is typical of a Roland Emmerich directed film. No problem if you enjoy the film, but people hate this film for many reasons, not just the look of Zilla.

I personally loved this film and it was also my introduction to Godzilla as a kid. I still remember going to the theaters to watch this with my aunt when I was 5yrs old, it was such an exhilarating experience! My only genuine complaint about this film was that they had to kill Godzilla in the end, no necessary 👎🏽

@@darthnihilus3447 Thus far nothing has been announced. It makes more sense to hype up Godzilla vs Kong and make it seem like the last one as it will generate hype for some sort of finale. But as long as it does well i think it's fare to asume it will only mark the end of Phase one. Doubt that Legendary will end the series there as there's alot of money to be made from a continuing monsterverse with other monsters getting stand alone films. Maybe a Kong Sequel. Maybe a Mothra prequel? And there are other monsters they could try to make movies for and even try to bring into the Monsterverse. No reason to end it there unless Toho refuses to renew any contracts.
I don't doubt that Shin Godzilla will get a sequel at some point. But Toho seems to not want to compete with themselves so the idea seems to be to not release a Godzilla film the same year as Legendary. Shin came out after the 2014 reboot from Legendary. Then there where the anime movies that where pretty ok. And then King of the Monsters and now Godzilla vs Kong later this year. Might be that Legendary will take a few years off after the epic monster showdown and that will be when Toho steps in with another Godzilla movie. Shin Godzilla 2 or something. Or they might start a new line of movies again following the original as a direct serquel ignoring every other sequel again like they've done for every era of Godzilla other then with Shin Godzilla. As long as Toho makes more i'm going to be happy. As much as i love Legendary's Godzilla... There's just something about Toho's Godzilla that can't be beat. I love all of the old movies. Even the real shitty ones where Godzilla dances and does Karate and learns to fly etc etc... Godzilla is Amazing! But alot of them are genuinly good as well.

The 1998 Godzilla movie was an enormous part of my childhood and I still treasure it even today, but to be honest after you guys gave the lowdown on how the sequel would've turned out I actually would've absolutely adored it and would've definitely wanted it to be made so that the previous one wouldn't have been stuck with that cliff hanger. The story line is incredible and I just love the relationship that Nick had with the new Godzilla, deep down I knew that Nick still cared just as I thought he would. I may not have ever seen Godzilla: The Series when I was a kid but I have seen only a few episodes online so now thanks to you guys and this video I completely understand how it would've played out in the sequel if they did make it but I think that the tv series was just as impressive and wonderfully made, even though I never officially saw it on tv. So yes, I do wish that they made the sequel to the 1998 film but in reality I just want Godzilla's legacy to continue on far into the future with both Legendary and Toho productions. I grew up with this Godzilla and absolutely LOVE him, especially the one in the animated series! I so would've enjoyed a sequel or trilogy attempted like this to the film. The animated series though is amazing and I am thrilled that we got that! Wish this Godzilla had been more widely enjoyed/accepted even with him being pretty different from the classic films. It was my first Godzilla movie so I have a special place for it and I would probably hate all the others if it wasn't for it. But it had a really good animated series which is the closet thing we will ever get to a sequel to Godzilla (1998).
I loved this movie as a kid. My grandpa even made me a custom pillow that I still have 20 years later.
The sequel would’ve bin a great movie, almost related to the animated series. Hope someone would make it for old time sake

I actually didn't mind the design of the monster, but the subplot with the babies was silly.
For me, it definitely has the possibility of being good, but in the end it's still made by the same team behind Godzilla '98. So even if your general story is good, the awkward late-90s Godzilla crew is there making terrible decisions. Maybe getting rid of Godzilla 2 was for the best and to give the audience a break. Giving Godzilla a break while also getting an entirely new crew for the next film years later would give a much-needed revamp to the character. It's also interesting on how this would've changed the later Godzilla movies. Toho said they wouldn't have made another Godzilla movie until 2005 which meant no GMK or the Kiryu saga. And we might've never had the MonsterVerse which meant we never would have had TWO Godzilla/Kong crossovers for that matter or maybe Legendary Pictures wouldn't be interested in remaking a proper Godzilla movie at all, if we already had three American films from 1998-2003. So maybe this movie was better off canceled.
A condensed version of the series, I feel that even If that released it wouldn't be as successful as Animated Series, because of the first movie

Wow, dude, I was thinking about this today! I want to know what the hell happened to the sequel. Critics hated this film and garnered negative reviews, but has become a cult classic. I saw this in theaters when I was 8 years old!
I would say the majority of general audiences hated this movie too, not just critics. It made $136 million in 1998. It has the reputation because it's notoriously a bad movie. But I don't think it can be considered a cult classic if made $380 million worldwide on a $130 million budget. That's kind of the opposite of cult classic :). It didn't do poor at the box office, there was just a huge negative reception. Nothing wrong with you enjoying it. But those are the numbers.

What’s funny is I’ve seen animated series and they almost copied that in the first episode. He finds the hatchling and it imprints on him. I like that show.

In the 1st Godzilla of the new Godzilla’s they made it “similar” to the 98 and the unmade Godzilla which is awesome. They used everything just in different ways making it a new story still.

This sequel actually sounds pretty promising. Dont get me wrong, I loved the TV series, but this seems like it would've been pretty interesting aswell!

I personally *don't care* what anyone says: I truly *LOVE* "Godzilla 1998" for what it is! :) Though I too AM truly understanding as to why a good amount of hardcore G-Fans want to dis-associate ti with the King of the Monsters we've all come to know and love. I'm familiar with this unmade sequel to 1998, too. It DOES have a lot of story and character potential, and it rectifies some of the lack of trademark Godzilla traits as far as where its titular Kaiju is concerned.

The only thing wrong with this movie is the title. I loved the film, but also understand why so many Godzilla fans hated it. Sadly, I felt the recent Godzilla: King of Monsters was a horrible movie, so I can relate.
Toe Cutter I more or less feel the same way. Now I personally wouldn't call "King of the Monsters (2019)" horrible, per say, though I too feel it isn't as good as "Godzilla 2014."

This Godzilla was the first to introduce me to the giant monster, I loved this movie and I really wish they would have done more. I still love the originals and do agree they are better in some ways, but this one will always have a place in my heart. its a shame they didn't just go for it and make the squeal, really could have made the universe expand much more.

I never understood the hate for it. It was never meant to take itself seriously.
Because it wasn't a Godzilla movie. It was Roland Emmerich trying to ape Jurassic Park- badly. The military shouldn't be effective in a Godzilla Movie. In Godzilla Movies, the military is ineffective at best, and totally a waste to time otherwise. He had a Godzilla with no breath weapon- really? This wasn't a Godzilla movie, it was a standard monster/disaster movie. Godzilla/Gojira should NEVER be a standard Godzilla/Disaster movie. It's offensive to one of the oldest continuous Movie series in film.

Honestly, I think if this movie was made, It would have really healed TriStar’s bad rep from the first movie. This genuinely a fun concept and I know I would have watched this over and over. The tragedy of Zilla’s babies and the similarity with the TV show. Too bad we didn’t get it

Godzilla ‘98 was my first ever Godzilla movie. As a kid, I loved it. As an adult, I’ve soured on it as a Godzilla movie, but I have a guilty pleasure enjoyment for it as a generic monster movie
The animated tv show, however, was really good
