The Black bank robber that was in Dirty Harry, was also the Pimp in Magnum Force, , a BlackPather gang leader in The Enforcer & finally another cop / partner in Sudden Impact. I forget his name, but he was a life long friend with Clint. EDIT - HIs name is Albert Popwell.
@@yell0wberry The third one was the worst. It's like it doesn't fit the progression of the series. I always thought The Gauntlet would have made a better Dirty Harry 3
@@charlesbronson4282 Disagree on The Enforcer, but share the love for The Gauntlet. Although making it a Dirty Harry film would have necessitated removing that great plot point about the mob picking him because he's a known loser.
Always love how critics (and basically everyone) consider the character as some sort of bloodthristy avenger, even though the setup to that legendary first action scene shows him purposely staying out of the violence (instead calling it in for patrolmen to handle) until the bank's alarm forces him to step in.
Great presentation, as always. You missed one though: The little boy who was fishing that Scorpio Killer actor Andrew Robinson tried to use as a shield against Dirty Harry shooting him was his real-life stepson Stephen Zacks who also became an actor.
I saw it first run and absolutely loved it. It was such a departure from the TV police shows popular at the time. Steve McQueen would have made a great Harry also.
The soundtrack was by Lalo Schiffrin, pronounced Shiffreen, according to Lalo himself some years back. Anyway, saw it first run and was properly impressed.
Great review, thanks! Robinson was a class act and a really underrated actor... The death threats also seem odd. So many actors are seen as their characters by audiences, which doesn't make any sense since an actor is to play a completely different personality.
One of the best Star Trek actors of all time. You know the tooth he sent to prove he had the hostage. That was added into Star Trek lore as a tribute to his great acting. The Cardassians take that tooth from you as an identification of who you are. Pity that wasn't number 21...
My understanding is that “48 Hours” was originally meant to be a Dirty Harry movie (San Francisco, on the outs with girlfriend, cop at odds with establishment, etc.). Rewatch it and imagine Clint Eastwood as the star. I works perfectly.
The second DH movie was a direct result of the ‘critics’ calling the character a fascist, it showed that Harry didn’t care about politics, only justice.
These were some of the movies myself and brothers loved to watch as kids, in the late 70's early 80's. We were all under 10, there were very few movies we couldn't watch.
I remember wishing Albert Popwell's character iin The Enforcer was the same "gots to know" robber from the original. That would explain their background and especially how when he told Harry to "take him out," he knew firsthand that Callahan could do just that .
Good stuff, good movie, and thanks to the critics you free advertising and exposure! Steve McQueen would have been great too! Maybe ol" Frank? JW too old Paul Newman, too small...Callahan was played by the one who was best for the role🙃☺
Pond at the Hutchinson grinding site...train bridge in between... in the middle and not seen, the go-kart track (rental).. friends and I would ride bikes through the train tunnel from san rafael to ride the karts... that was cool part about the movie for me.. knowing the area
When Scorpio is shot in the stadium, that was an actual stadium called Kezar Stadium. Growing up in the Bay Area, I remember watching a 49ers game where John Brody was the quarterback. It was early winter and the fog was so thick that people were calling in asking what’s wrong with the picture. Nothing was wrong except the fog was so thick. Even the players had trouble spotting when passes were thrown. The game was memorable both for this and because the network had no other game to switch to because the games, played on the East Coast and Midwest had already ended. It was because of this game that Candlestick Park was built.
I always hoped that there would be a final 6th film. After "The Dead Pool" Clint was still young enough to pull off one more then retire the character.
Can you imagine Dirty Harry in SF today? Instead of a 44 Auto-Mag, he would be using CAT990 loader. Police Chief: G*d damn it Callahan, I got a report of a SF cop going down the sidewalks with a bucket loader. Now where are my Tums..."
It always makes me laugh when you see who they considered for a classic role as rarely are any of the chosen suitable, on this one I could see Steve McQueen pull it off and at a push possibly Paul Newman but the rest.....no. Clint's portrayal and also Robinson's really made this movie for me and gave me an everlasting impression that San Francisco is a really gritty, risky place to live and I'm from the UK and never been there.
The best Dirty Harry film , but the others aren't to shabby. I wish I could use that famous line do you feel lucky just once in my life. Sadly political correctness was obviously rife even back then.

Makes me appreciate the film even more. Great video!
I've watched that opening scene a hundred times, and never get tired of it!
California could use a bunch of Dirty Harry's right now....
So could Washington.
That’s for damn sure!!!

Horace. Albert Popwell was also on Coogan's Bluff.
He missed out on being in the dead pool due to scheduling conflicts with another movie such a shame.
We need Dirty Harry today more than ever.
Fabulous films, Clint was admirable in these and it would be a task to recommend any other actor for the part. Thanks for this, well done.
Great video, great movie!!!! Keep up the good work!!! Love your videos!!!
Have always been a Clint Eastwood fan! The Dirty Harry films and any of his westerns are my favorites!
I can't believe you didn't go into the music more! So iconic!!
The best one is the second one. Magnum Force. Magnum Force is a masterpiece.
Definitely.Amazing movie and probably
my favourite Eastwood film
Yeah, but sudden impact probably had the best soundbites in movie history

Ooh, more Clint, please! Great channel.

The original kid actor taken hostage at the pond was too scared during shooting and had to be replaced with the Scorpio actor's real life son.

Explains why so many people voted for an ex gameshow host convict bankrupt sex offender to make their lives great again

The DH films tap into a national frustration with crime that was present coast to coast in the 70s

"Gritty San Francisco of the 1970's"
Pelosi: Hold my beer...
Harris: Cackles with insanity!
Clint was born in San Francisco, that's all you really need to know...

Garack from DS9 checking in!
Hi, could you do20 Thinghs You Nener Knew Deep Blue Sea 1999, Renny Harlin movie.
OK I could totally have seen McQueen or Mitchum in the role, but Eastwood was best.

they forgot Lee Marvin
I can only imagine if dirty Harry was in his prime in today’s San Francisco….. using a 44 magnum
It wouldn't be a cesspool...it would be the dead pool...
Trump would hire him as a bodyguard and Musk would blow him.
It would feature a lot more explosions than in the original.
Seminal film. How we could all do with a few Dirty Harry´s today.......
And then the gun SMITH and WESSON MODEL 29
Apparently John Wayne regretted turn down dirty harry so he made McQ instead
lol John Wayne was too slow and fat to do all that running to and from phone booths and action sequences. He was rejected he didn't turn it down lol.
Bollywood ripped off the film called Akayla (1991). It was terrible 😅
The best Dirty Harry film , but the others aren't to shabby. I wish I could use that famous line do you feel lucky just once in my life. Sadly political correctness was obviously rife even back then.
Albert Popwell who Harry says "make my day" appeared in all Dirty Harry films , " Eyez Just Gotz To Know.
He was only in 4 of the 5.
Apologies, I thought it was all.
Missed the fifth one due to scheduling conflicts with another movie such a shame died not long after.
