Yes it is terrible how we treat our aged people. I am a retired RN and Midwife, and also a Herbalist and Massage Therapist. I feel I could help people more with what I know. I used to visit a client and administer Bowen Therapy which she found very good for her. She sat a lot in chair by her bed, but after her care I would walk with her to toilet, and around different areas. Just giving her some exercise helped but when I came to see her in a week she had no exercise at all so she started to become stiff and weaker. It was such a disappointment to see her demise. 😢😢Pam Warburton

Jeff, this is the exact situation I’m in with my 82 year old mum. Her complex health issues are getting worse but the 2 pages of codes on a CHSP are completely useless. This is heartbreaking for mum she deserves so much more than the way this whole system works. 18months for an MAC to be approved and 4 months to get another ACAT assessment in our area. I’m unsure if she will make then 22 months needed to get her help.
This makes me cry every day that I can not fix this for her. I’m her full time cater while working full time. 😢
Today I have engaged a broker to focus on respite and residential care as I have these codes.
But I’m completely devastated with the Australian aged care system. It does nothing but let down our much loved elderly.

Hi I live in a rural town with the major hospitals approx 1-1.15 mins away. I had a call at 9.15pm a month ago from a lady in my town.
Apparently had a fall taken to the major hospital by ambulance.
Her arm was put in plaster and a pain med given.
Then at 9pm !!! On a cold wet nasty night she was discharged and told to “ Make her way home”!!🤬
    This lady was devastated.
    No family close by.
    In severe shock and pain!!!
The only person capable she could think of at that time of night to travel to get her home was myself at 74 yrs old!!!
No CHSP cab voucher was suitable. It is a disgrace to be honest and such a sad state of affairs. So your gentleman in this video obviously, is not an isolated case …

I’m living in a rural area. I’m a level 4 aged care person. I receive transport and home care but it is charged out at $78 hr. The support person receives LESS than half of this amount. Something is wrong with the system for recipients and support staff

I was in the same situation as John. Went to local hospital by ambulance and then transferred to another hospital 1.30hrs away. After 4 days was told I could go home there was no transport available so had to call my neighbour who had to drive 1.30hrs to come pick me up and then drive me home. It’s very difficult when we live in the central tablelands Emma

Four years ago I was given a level two package. Two years ago after multiple falls and many visits to hospital, the hospital requested that I should be upgraded to level four. Nothing happened despite many requests from my care manager I was not even assessed. At the end of last year I was again in hospital and not allowed home without a higher package so I ended up in a nursing home which is miserable, lost my marriage , my house and my dog and all interest in life

    • @c8Lorraine1
      @c8Lorraine1 วันที่ผ่านมา

You can access the ACAS assessment directly ! After the assessment you will be placed on a wait list until the government releases more packages. This could be a year. Always plan ahead ideally get assessed now even if you don’t need it immediately, and expect services in a year. I was assessed to level 4 because my kidneys are failing and it was expected I would need extra help with dialysis treatment and home domestic services in about a year. This was granted, and I sat on a waiting list for over a year. I’m grateful for the case manager who put in the request for additional assessments. I’ve learned it’s best to plan way ahead of the time that you need the help. Someone once told me that …You’re only one fall away from being transferred from your home to a nursing home, permanently…… I’ve never forgotten those words.

Earlier this year I spoke to aged care. The woman told me I probably needed more than the CHSP and would get someone to ring me. I waited several months and never heard from anyone so I rang them and was told I had been approved for meals, gardening and house cleaning. I have never had a personal interview with anyone. They gave me some code numbers and providers which were very limited. I rang MSS who told me they wouldn't be able to interview me until November (2months down the track) she advised me that in the meantime she would send me papers to sign and then i would be able to go into town and pick up meals each week. Since i never heard from anyone, or received the papers. They also told me I'd be required to pay $25 an hour for gardening and cleaning which I thought was excessive as a pensioner, as my sister and friend only pay $14 an hour in other districts. The system is broken and the providers are taking the government for a ride.

Hi Jim. Even when a client is in HCP it wont happen that quick (like 2 hours notice for "John"), and if discharged from hospital is out of the provider office hrs, forget it. With providers everything has to be done with time, during office hrs. and things has to be planned...when with old people, and sick, there are more urgencies than plans. Maybe that services has to be provided and arranged by public hospitals staff and get paid by whatever branch of the Depart of Health corresponds, wheter is MAC (CHSP or HCP), MEDICARE, or like the AMBULANCE COVER for pensioners and more, in particular in cases like John's case that has no family, noone to help him to taking him back home.
Even to cancel has to be with time or you get charged anyway... so when something happens, like an urgency, how come you can cancel services 24 or 48 hrs. before... nobody has a crystal ball....people can be ok and 5 minutes later had an fall a sudden accident or a stroke or a heart attack, or get sick really bad during the night and has to get urgently hospitlised, but if you cancel services due to an unexpected urgency you get charged anyway, wich is not fair at all. Urgencies suppose to be waved. Others type of cancellations that are done less than 24 hrs before or at the last minute or the client is not home for another reason, forgot or the like, it is another story and it is understandable.
To my husband that had happened few times, that he had to be urgently hospitalised and coincidentaly, in less than 24 hrs it was scheduled to have a service coming that have to be cancelled, they deducted the money (whole amount for the service) anyway.
We are very grateful for the help My Aged Care provides, however, to my understanding, some things are not very well thought and considered.

CHSP IS ONLY $25 vouchers for lawn or cleaner. In Northern Rivers NSW, they have no providers on the books.....
    88year old assessed on phone.
After advocating for this lady she has level 1 HC which was needed 6 months ago when originally assessed. Now needs to wait 6 months for funding....
Very poor reporting from local ACAT Team is delaying services...they have been given this feedback and are not happy about it. This is the 4th person I have had to advocate for because of poor reporting.
Quality Commision to be advised of these cases next....so time consuming

As a Home Care Package Care Manager, I feel your logic is flawed. Two hours' notice of hospital discharge is not an 'aged care system' failure, it's a byproduct of a failing health care system where hospitals are pressured to discharge people to make room for more patients (aka hike up the stats and get more funding).
I also believe you need to be careful not to mislead people when making CHSP vs HCP comparisons in case studies. Yes, a transport service or taxi could have been paid for if the gentleman had a Home Care Package, but only if it was included in his Care Plan and he had funds allocated/enough funds available to use.

Hi . You aware of the VERY BIG changes to my aged care in middle of 2025 ? Sounds like it's adopting a ndis approach like use the allocated funds or lose them ! This i believe is because there are many recipients on high MAC levels whom have rogue providers that amass a large , $30,000 odd , package balance which when multiplied by ???? recipients adds up to massive bucks . The government sees this and says nah but those recipients are not getting the services they need . What a mess and we the reliants are going to get VERY BLOODY CONFUSED . I saw something that said the maximum domestic assistance hours recipients would be allowed is 52 per year .
I hope you read this and have some influence over the final changes these bureaucratic $ hunters are planning! .? A video on this would be appreciated please . I hope I have been clear . Thanks.

Some recipients save massive amounts so they can pay for bathroom renovations e.g. maybe needed when wheelchair bound or requiring an assistant when using the bathroom. The 52 hrs per year cap is for cleaning.

Way too simplistic. Yes systems are different but be careful to not sell the HCP system as able to solve such problems. qualities of case managers vary ++++ often due to the providers and the lack of support they give staff and responsibility they accept at a higher level. . if you manage 60 clients how can you be there for every client even when really needed. A good case manager is so worth their weight in gold but it is not the reality for many. Re ACAS good luck there with a 6 months wait for some areas.. I am a professional who knows all about the system it’s flairs and what is good

And with the upcoming election, we hear all the usual promises. All these promises cost ... but not one politician will explain where they will take the money from to fund their promises (which mostly will get broken).
Also, having worked in a public hospital, I find it hard to believe that this man was just kicked out. There are many social services within the health care system, including transport services. Why was he not assisted by a social worker in the hospital?

yes, it happens.... it happen to my husband once and it was something unexpected so soon because he wasnt well enough to go back home... However, lucky I was able to pick him up in a rush when they call me. Of course, 1 hour later I have to taking back to hospital... he had to stay another 4 days after that. It was a mess... the staff change shifts and the next shif, in hospitals make decisions based on mud. You have to be on top or it could be worse.
