    Nice comparison as always. It was a very good port considering the super small rom size. If this game was released on a 16mb cart it could have looked even closer.

      Yeah, they did a great job considering the small cart size and early release, probably about as good as they could have at that time. If it had come along later even on an 8 megabit cart, I think it could have been surprisingly close, except for the on-screen sprite limits.

    I always really liked this game. I think it got a little overshadowed by that other early Capcom arcade port, Strider, but it was still a lot of fun to play. A very solid port, given the tiny cart size

      I liked it a lot in its day, even though I personally preferred Thunder Force II for my early 16-bit shooting needs 😁
      But yeah, they did a great job considering the limited resources they had to work with.

      Yeah, overall they did a great job within their constraints. As for the music, I have to disagree, I actually like most of it better on the Genesis game, Capcom just used some weird, mushy instruments in their early CPS1 games. But to each their own!

    7:08 Good choice in the morning, the "Napalm". Massive damage for boss battles! Though other strategies use fire and laser. Good video discussion! We played the Genesis a lot, without realizing what had been missing until later.

      Thanks, glad you liked it! Yeah, I still mostly stick to napalm when I play 😁

    This is another Capcom game which implies a detailed world without describing it specifically. It could be an "ancient aliens impersonating gods" story. (Compare Sidearms, Legendary Wings, 3 Wonders)

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they had some funky world building back then

    I have to say though... despite all the limitations, the Genesis version is lot more colorful and also have better contrast on assets. I would say it's nicer to look at than the arcade.

      It definitely looks good on Genesis, if a tad bare. I'd say the arcade one looks better overall but that the Genesis version plays a little better and often sounds a smidge better, too.

    Forgotten Worlds should've been held back until the time Strider was released. An 8 Mbit cart would've helped greatly. This is probably the least of the Capcom ports for MD, with a lot of missing details and two entire stages removed.
    Shame that nothing had become of the rumored Mega CD version. If that were a thing, it'd probably be near perfect except for lower resolution and color. I'd imagine MCD's higher clocked (12.5 MHz) 68000 would help alleviate the slowdown.

      It would have been nice to get a more complete version, but I'm with what we got for the time it came out, personally. This is still the version I play the most by far.
      By the time the Sega CD came along, it was really too late to make it for that. They even had trouble selling the awesome version of Final Fight on it because, I think, it was considered an "old" game by the time the Sega CD version came along.

    This is one game where I wish I had the dial for it....

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would have been handy, but I think the controls are fine on the Genesis port. These days especially, when I'm playing it on an emulator I just set L and R to handle the rotation, works great!

      @@InglebardGaming I played the Capcom Arcade Stadium version. They allow an (almost) twin-stick control method that works comfortably. Just plug in a dual-analog game controller and point where you want to position the gun to shoot... although, it still technically rotates at a fixed speed, despite the original arcade dial could be spun faster by hand.

    Love this arcade game! Unique button, something different, not sure but I believe I was in third grade when I play this arcade game

    I wish they would have re-released this game on a later date after game developers had a little more time with the hardware.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, I mentioned that myself, they could have done this way closer to the arcade game on the Genesis hardware if it were done after devs had more experience and a roomier cartridge, maybe 16 megabit.

    Amiga or C64 are coming up next, aren't they? I have vague memories of not having a clue how to control them, but I liked the sprites work on the C64.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it wont be the C64 version, because I can't stand playing without music... even when the music is terrible, lol.

    This is one game I’ve never got round to playing despite knowing of it. It was a fascinating video nonetheless.
    I’m guessing the reason the bosses too so much longer to kill on the arcade version is because it was primarily designed with both players in mind so the bosses were tuned accordingly?
    As for the terrible port - is it the Amiga again? I almost got this for Christmas on the C64 as a kid but the mail order company we bought it from, it turns out was run by a kid who ripped people off so I never got a chance to play that version. From what I’ve seen, it was serviceable but nothing special. There were certainly way better shooters on that system anyway.

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the bosses, that's what I assume. Because they're nuts with one player.
      For the terrible version.... maaaaaaaybe its the Amiga again, lol. And oh, it's something special... just in all the wrong ways!

      Lest we forget, arcade machines are there to earn some cash. Higher difficulty doesn't surprise me.

    And also I must point the game won´t work with the GENESIS FLASBHACK.. Same as using the six button controller... Sad, because I want to play the Genesis version HD..
    At least I have the XBOX Capcom collection with the game included and can play it at 480p
    BUT I always wonder what would Forgotten Worlds on the Genesis could result if the game ended using a much bigger cart, let´s say 32mb cart..

    • @InglebardGaming
      @InglebardGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, didn't even think about whether or not it worked on the flashback.
      Regarding cart size, I think 8 megabits would have been enough to get really close to the arcade and 6 would have been pretty close to perfect minus the amount of sprites on screen.
