      Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I started a long time ago to "over explain" as I have one subscriber who is blind. He and his granddaughter follow the videos, he listens and she watches. He ties the knot and if he goes wrong his granddaughter corrects him. A lovely little bond must be growing between them. :-)

    • @KnottingKnots
      @KnottingKnots 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When estimating the amount of line you need, loosly wrap cord around the object for each lead in the Turks Head. So as this is a 4 lead Turks Head, wrap the cord loosely around the object 4 times. Then multiply that by the number of passes you want your TH to be. In other words the one in the video is 3 passes. Clear as Mud?

    • @KnottingKnots
      @KnottingKnots 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love decorative knotting using good quality natural cordage. The cordage that I use is hard lay. The lay of a rope is determined by how far it stands out. Bit like when you have a tape measure, the more your can feed out before it collapses, the better the quality. You will find that when you work with hard lay cordage, the knots look so much better. What country are you in, I will see if I can match you up with a supplier?

    • @KnottingKnots

      It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you are covering an object, place it over the object and then pull up tight. Once it is nice and tight, you can cut the ends flush to the TH and they should remain secure. If however, this is going to be a bracelet, you could seize the ends on the underside of the weave.

    Is the only way to finish a Turks head woggle by using glue or melting the para cord? It feels unsatisfactory to me. How were old fashioned turks head knots finished in natural fibre. I've been trawling through the youtube tutorials on making the knot and they all seem to finish it with glue or heat. Is there another more natural/pure way?

      I am with you also!!! I often finish a Turks Head (if wrapped around an object) nice and tight and then cut the ends and tuck under. If you use a 3 strand cord you could do what is known as the side splice to hold it in place. Another method would be to sew or lash the end to the cordage next to it.

      Catherine Not so quick this time 😀 I think the nearest to you is Martin Combs. You can contact him on email roundturn@hotmail.com let me know if this works ok for you, if not I will dig deeper? Or, there is the Marlin Spike Sailor group on FaceBook run by a John D Rae, I think he is in Canada? You could contact him through that group or put a post requesting for a supplier in your area: facebook.com/groups/403716083155503/

    Great video, but how do you “hide “ the ends?

    • @KnottingKnots
      @KnottingKnots 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you put it around an object, go round and and gently pull out all the slack. Then when really tights, you can cut the loosed ends flush and if necessary tuck under. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

      Don't forget though there are a number of different ways of tying the Turk's Head. Eventually you will find the one that suits you best. Or maybe you spent so long learning a knot, you refuse to tie it any other way???

    Johnny Debt, Howdy; Interesting methodology for tying the knot. yet you didn't show ho to finish it for beginners
    something that's lacking in a majority of Turk's head how to videos and a lot of other knots as well.
    Devils in the details ya know. chuckle.

      It rather depends on what you are using the TH for. If you are covering an object, then pull it up really tight and just cut off the loose ends. If making a bracelet, you could do some seizing: th-cam.com/video/wkcVKJO8SB8/w-d-xo.html

    I don't like this way of tying this Turks head I have tried it this way but soon gave it up as too much trouble as I can tie it in the dark by a different method ,did you know that you can double any Turks head either from the bottom like a rooftops knot or from the top like a diamond knot?
