What some people don’t realise about VAR, is that the technology is absolutely not the issue. The technology works if the right people use it and the right rules are in place that officials apply to VAR. There needs to be changes made to it, removing VAR would do nothing, there would still be as many if not more incorrect decisions.

@@Isleofskye that’s the biggest negative, but if VAR can help correct more incorrect decisions then imo it’s worth having. Right now that’s not happening which is why it needs changing.

I was about to give these mugs a piece of my mind I came across this comment....100% agree. I think VAR is one of the best things that have came to football in recent years. People don't like it because they can't get away with a cheeky goal anymore. Back in the day, if the ball ended up in the back of the net...almost always, the goal would stand unless somehow someway, a ref was in the vicinity and clearly saw that the goal only went in because of a hand ball for example....or if the linesman was gutsy enough to raise the flag even if he doesn't feel 100% accurate on the call and he'll hear it from the fans afterwords. VAR provides that angle where nobody else could see on the pitch. It's whether or not the person USING VAR is capable of pointing out the mistakes the correct way.
I agree with pretty much all but Thogden you're wrong about the last Harry Kane one, if Robertson doesn't jump and has his leg firmly on the ground, that tackle/foul could be a career ending one. The force that he goes in and with studs up Kane could've easily done some bad damage.
But he didnt. It wasnt on purpose. Since People say struijk didnt desrrce red against elliot this shouldnt either

He went in studs up about shin height, completely missed the ball and had a lot of force in the tackle, it's a desperate and late attempt to get the ball but it's a red card challenge all day everyday.
@@BoydC2008 and when someone goes in like this and actually injures a player badly everyone will say we don't want to see that in football, rules have been changed to try and protect footballers from getting career ended and this couldve been a lot worse than it was and it was only because Robertson saw what stupid tackle Harry Kane was doing and jumped out of the way, still clipped him though

My honest conclusion on all of them is that VAR is operated by a bunch of referees who let their personal preference get in the way of judgement. Another thing I've found increasingly frustrating (they've also pointed this out on MOTD) is how the VAR officials make these decisions and claim they couldn't find a suitable angle when the pundits and ex players can find one in a matter of seconds.
I'm a Liverpool fan, and I think Jota is an absolute baller however as you both said there is no way it's a pen, he's clearly looking for something after his bad control. Love the Content lads! 👍💙

If Andy Robertson doesn’t jump there that’s a possible broken leg, I don’t know how anyone can argue that that’s not a red card
That’s not a red, he’s studs are up but his foot was not raised high that wasn’t a two foot challenge either, so that is not a red a foul or a yellow card is fair
He was late, studs up, reckless and it was shin height it only looked lower because Robertson jumped
@@tommurdoch1616 if Robertson jumps it’s his buissness because he jumps he didn’t get injured so when Kane went in to that challenge he’s studs were up but only caught Robertson’s foot so Robertson will only probably get the most a bit of bleeding that won’t cause any injuries so that’s not a red.
Like in F1 it shouldn't be based on the outcome it's a reckless tackle that was studs up, misses the ball because Robertson kicks it first and it was still pretty high, red all day everyday, reds have been given to players for the exact same tackle
@@tommurdoch1616 if you look at it again his studs were up but not a dangerous challenge Robertson jumped so the results were diffrent the tackle got the ball and Robertson’s leg if that was a two foot challenge that would’ve been 100% a red card
The worst thing about mcarthur’s challenge is that saka puts all his weight on that one leg, and it’s been kicked at full power. Straight red for me, would love to see other opinions
I'm not having anything about it being clumsy. It's SO late. He's not even tracking the ball. Blatant violent behaviour for me. It's an atrocity that referees in the world's best league are such petulant cunts.

I think both of them are easy reds but I’m happy the Kane one wasn’t given cause it was just a proper 90s passionate brexit tackle which gets the fans if their seat and I think football needs more tackles like that
Villa fan here- seeing Ings’ goal disallowed by VAR in the FA cup against united was about the most infuriating VAR decision I’ve experienced.

Tottenham vs Southampton was controversial, when Fraser Forster dropped the ball and it went in, they gave it as a Southampton free kick tho. Could argue Kane wasn't offside too

I’m a Liverpool fan right, and i can admit that robbo’s challenge was a stupid one and it was a red card, however if that’s a red card then so is Kane’s. It’s reckless and dangerous and if it had been a different player apart from the England captain it would have been a red. How can VAR tell the ref to look at one challenge and not the other? It’s the inconsistency

Ronaldo did a similar challenge, to Robbos red card offence, on curtis Jones when liverpool beat Manchester United 5-0 and got away with it just because he is Ronaldo. Theres no consistency.

What about the disallowed goal by Kane as he "fouled" Thiago Silva this last gameday.
its a foul by kane and even if thiago fell lightly kane still had his hand on his back and shoved him so its a foul
@@olaoluwaoyekan3406 It's not a foul since Kane's arm wasn't folded in any instance of the "foul" meaning it wasn't a "push". The referee should've left it for VAR to decide rather than marking it off right away
It was a foul 100%, you could argue though that the challenge on Sarr should have been a red!
@@SpursAccess It was later checked and re-checked and found a foul...if you are running at that speed shove on the back is a foul as it takes the defender out as he would have gotten the ball before it reached Kane.
A former referee once said to me that if an elbow is intentional, then the fist of the player will be clenched. That is the natural instinct. So I think the ref got benteke's red completely wrong. It should have only been a foul.
Pretty sure he had a yellow before that so he got a double yellow.
I'm a Norwich fan and I remember Krul saving a penalty from Aubameyang and one of our players encroached into the area and the penalty was retaken and subsequently scored. That Brentford penalty should have been retaken regardless of it's outcome.
the difference between the two is that the player who encroached in the norwich game was the one that subsequently cleared the ball after the save. in the brentford game the player running into the box makes absolutely no difference in the outcome of the penalty.

@@isb213 literally makes NO difference , as the rule is written you cannot be in the box before the ball is kicked , it's a rule that isn't enforced and other times should be , just enforce the fkn law and stop just making it up as you go along that's all people want.
@@louisclark6051 that’s not the law. The law is the penalty should be taken again if the encroaching player has a material impact on the outcome of the penalty
Man being a Liverpool fan I felt like we kind of found are way into the title race with bad decisions up until that criminal tackle on Robertson plus the fact that we got our first red card that game out of nothing it really pissed me of we should have won that game
I'm a Villa fan and I'm surprised the incident between Ramsey and Schmeichel hasn't been included causing a goal to be disallowed. Where he supposedly had control of the ball while only having 1 hand on it. Then the following week the same thing happened in a cup game and the outcome resulted in a goal.

Lost some respect there for Thogden at the end, saying Kane's challenge on Robertson wasn't a red. Had Robbo not jumped up, he would have broken his leg. Whether that touches Robertson or not, the intention is clearly there from Kane, and he shows no regard for his opponent.
While Robertson's red card later on in the same game, while correct, was nowhere near as bad as Kane's challenge, and further proves the bias towards him.
As Thogdad rightly said, had it been any other player than the England captain, it would have been a red. Kane is continually protected by the English referees and the media, who allow him to get away with stuff others are hounded for. Whether that be a challenge, committing a foul, or seeking the contact for a penalty.
Kane is a dirty player! End of.

The first one with the Brighton defender it hits his back foot and deflects to his hand which was level or even further forward than his front foot. The reason he is leaning over is because he was running and the ball was played behind him and he knew he had to stop the ball and when stop running and stretch out you back leg you lose balance and full forward
City fan here. I can sorta see the debate of whether the foul on Silva was a pen or not, but the Odegaard one was very clearly not a pen. Ederson's leg gets to the ball b4 Odegaard, and doesnt collide with him in any way. Odegaard simply tripped on Edersons leg. not to mention that ederson made the ball change direction, indicating his touch was valid

Im a southampton fan and maybe Armstrong should have been sent off who knows but during the first fixture Kyle walker completely took out Armstrong and it wasn't given. For me thats easily the worst call this year in a game we should've won.
Harry Kane should of been sent off. He went into the challenge with his studs up which is dangerous play. I bet if that was anyone else they would of been sent off.

As a Watford Fan, and i saw that on Match of the Day and that is where VAR is needed to look at that decision. We had one similar in our game against Man United where Feminia encroached and VAR looked at it. So VAR should of looked at it

This is the problem with VAR because they’ll only show the image of Jota Colliding with the keeper which gives the impression it’s a penalty.

The Brentford penalty is totally fine. As long as the infringed player doesn’t interact with play. They will be alright.

I think the best way to make better decisions using the VARs is to bring in an unbiased umpire, like in cricket where the third umpires are mostly from other nations and don't take the side of a particular team, which assures to give both the teams an unbiased decision in any match. Same can be done with the referees in football (soccer for the English people).

i’m a liverpool fan, how can you be saying the ederson vs newcastle one is a “stonewall penalty” but the jota and guita one isn’t? they’re the same challenge. why do so many people have it out for liverpool we’ve been done over by the refs more than anyone on numerous occasions e.g. kane on robertson, yet everyone acts as if the refs favour us it’s a joke
Jota deliberately ran into Guaita after he saw he controlled it terribly he even looks up at Guaita it’s not like he was looking down and he lost his balance

Instead of using the VAR to check each incident, let each team have two chances to challenge and use VAR every match. If the team believes there was clear foul and decision should be reversed, they can challenge and use help of VAR.
VAR is a positive thing. Just because offsides are close it doesn’t mean they aren’t off side. And we always talk about the wrong decisions but never talk about the countless decisions that VAR gets right. Yes there are some decisions that are made wrongly but overall it has had a great impact on the game.

I semi agree with you, should be a foot lengths margin for offsides imo, but I agree the principles alright they just haven’t stuck to the ‘clear and obvious’ rule

@@Isleofskye I go to all home games of the club I support and a handful of away games and why would that matter. Just because fans are left in the dark for little bit doesn’t mean VAR isn’t a good thing. As long as good decisions are being made more often.
@@hpanes005 yeah with the offsides I guess that’s a rule change needed but that would be hard to police as we’d need to start measuring foot lengths.
For me the rule with offsides maybe should be any part of the body you can score with (basically everything but arms) but i guess whole body is easier to officiate

Because apparently Robertson was already jumping up when kane was going into the challenge meaning Robertson is already trying to get out of the challenge to avoid a more serious injury

I think it's a straight red. I love harry kane but it's a yellow for the challenge and another yellow for the handball.
My problem with var is one week they give a offside by a hand or half a head but then other other week in the same situation they say onside, they change the rules all the time

Tbf the veltman one - thogden is spot on when it comes down to how Veltman makes it look like he's stumbling or losing his balance. It's very clever defending from Veltman but imo it should have still been a penalty
