This song was, as the story goes, a challenged from George Harrison. George went to a Zep' concert in the early 70's. He was invited backstage to meet the band. They knew or admired him as Beatle and Guitarist. George is said to be amazed that Zep would play 2 hours, with such sound quality. The Beatles on their tours in the Sixties were not allowed to play more than 30 minutes, and often did the set in 20 minutes, with the screams of the audience, and their small amplifiers, they couldn't hear themselves much - reason to stop touring. Yet, George suggested they do a few ballads. The Rain Song. (re: Hammer of the Gods -book)

Well, I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan, but came around to LZ in my later years. I’ve seen almost all of your PF reactions and always enjoy how “into” the music you always get. I was a young man when PF and LZ both came on the scene in the mid/late 60’s. I was just 20 at the time. Strangely, I did not really “get into” either group at that time. I was more into straight R;&R and of course “The Beatles” we coming. Not until I was nearly fifty when I took my oldest daughter to PF Pulse Concert in Vancouver BC in 1995 I’d I really get hooked on PF. Absolutely a game changer and I became a huge PF fan. The greatest concert I’ve even been to in my life. Then, I began to listen to some LZ and came to really appreciate them more. I loved your reaction to “The Rain Song”, which is my second LZ favorite. But I think you should react to their song “Your Time is Gonna Come”. My third LZ favorite. I especially love the organ intro (I was a keyboard guy in a R&R band in 1964/1965 in LA before I got drafted into the Army). Anyway, I hope you can do that one sometime when you have a chance?

This was a difficult time for the band. Jimmy was dealing with a heroine addiction. Robert had suffered the tragedy of his little boy dying two years before and this was their first major concert after that. Robert had a somber face...completely different from his earlier self. His heart really wasn’t in it anymore and his voice was giving him problems. The very most beautiful version of this song is from 1995...as part of the Plant/Page No Quarter tour, with exquisitely beautiful acoustic guitar playing from Jimmy and a full orchestra. Utterly lovely. Two other songs that are mellow are Going to California and Ten Years Gone. And of course the iconic live performance of StairwaY to Heaven from MSG 1973 shows off Robert’s voice wonderfully.

I couldn’t agree with you more than how you described how the band was. You'd probably like the album version better based on your comments. The live performances had more improvisation, had a little more grit, and were never played the exactly same way twice. Led Zeppelin has so many great songs you could spend years finding gems on all their albums. The more you hear these songs the more you will get out of the experience. I bought my first LZ album in 1969, as soon as it was introduced in the US, and I'm still exploring the music and hearing new things.

You are actually spot on about the “potential” thing. A lot of people here are biased and ignoring what you are hearing. What many may not know, or remember, but he was having major vocal problems and some surgeries by this point. Plus his mind was wandering at this point in his life, he had recently lost his young son. Your comment about too long, songs were definitely longer in the 70’s. Of course anyone born in the last 20 years hasn’t heard a lot of 70’s rock growing up and have been trained to listen to music in roughly 3 to 3.5 minutes compositions. In the 70’s with a set of headphones on, sitting in your dark bedroom, songs like this (the record version) were applauded.

This song pretty lady is sologer. It is great!!!!! I hope you like it! It is so good!!!! John Paul's keyboard part adds so much to this. You can enjoy that more than most, seeing how you can play the keyboards. " Flee from keepers of the gloom!" These things are clear to all in time.......
Robert Plant is/was one of the best frontmen EVER. His abilities to capture the audience was/is unsurpassed. Everyone in his group is/was great. There is an acoustic version of this song you must watch!!!! Take care and please continue to explore these classics! This is America you are entitled to your opinions and thoughts. Besides this is your channel. YOU are in charge!! Take care of yourself.

The way you smiled and your eyes lit up, I think you LOVED it. This is a darn GOOD song.
Was that grand or what?????? Zeppelin was/is one of the leaders in rock & roll..... Have you listened to "Four sticks"????? Please locate and review their acoustic work. Plant and Page do their version of folk and traditional music.. It is at another level.......take care pretty lady......................

This is such a beautiful song. Everyone is at the tip-top of their game. Jimmy is rated in the top five rock guitarists! And John Paul adds so much with the keyboards. AND Robert is his usual masterful self. And his hair is as special as his vocals. Do you agree??? Bonham is tame on this one. But great as usual. There is an acoustic version of this classic you would love!!!! Locate it and watch it.
You will not be sorry. You are entitled to your opinion. This is your channel........ Take care................!!!!!!!!

I've been listening to rock, metal, pop, you name it for 45 years cause I'm 52 and it started around 7 with KISS anyway, after all these years, I decided just for myself I believe Led Zeppelin is the GOAT. Only people who would argue are probably Beatle's fans, which so am I lol

This version of the Rain Song from the Knebworth concerts from 1979 does not necessarily reflect Zeppelin at the performing peak (IMHO). You can hear that Plant hit a couple of dud-notes along the way as he was prone to doing from 75 onward. That will happen when you use your voice as a blistering, thunderous cudgel of male bravado and carnal lamentations for so many years. Even Page did not seem at his best from 1977 onward; however Achilles Last Stand from Knebworth is absolutely brain rattling; the energy, motion and ferocity remained intact throughout the entire song. The Rain Song from the 1973 concert; The Song Remains The Same, is so much better in my opinion or even try the original version from the Studio album; The Houses of the Holy.

In my generation the ladies I knew liked Led Zeppelin III the most. I saw them 21 Aug 1971 LA Forum, guitar solos kept the stoner fans happy. Back then everyone was smoking pot, pipes with feathers hanging off of them and humongous joints were passed from left and right down the rows from others unknown to us, everyone took a hit, everyone. Before the lights were turned off 15,000 people were pointing at a huge blue cloud hovering near the ceiling and laughing. Lovely young ladies dressed like hippies were standing on the stairs around us gyrating to everyone's delight!

By 1979 the band were struggling, Jimmy Page, and John Bonham were dealing with alcohol, and substance abuse. Robert Plants 5 year old son had passed away 2 years before these shows in England, and I'm pretty sure this was their first shows in 2 years.
You may want to take a listen to "Ten years gone" or "All of my love"
    .

I just stumbled across your channel. I know a fair amount about Led Zeppelin, since i grew up in the 60's and 70's, but not much about you.( I will say, you have an interesting kind of beauty) . Anyhow, enjoy your journey through this band. I think it takes time to understand the fact that these guys are something to experience in their totality, vs some linear music experience. They are very versatile.

I highly, highly recommend you reacting to "All of My Love." This song is beautiful and his voice definitely comes through. LZ used to do acoustic sets as well, so a few others you would enjoy: Going to California, That's the Way, Tangerine, and Thank You.

That's what you call a reaction to videos... Proper reaction. Love her smile though...
A suggestion lady.. In future, react to Led Zeppelin songs individually from the concert in Madison square garden, 1973. Its one of their perfect concerts, the other with Egyptian band & orchestra sans John Paul Jones & Jon Bonham nevertheless..
