The penalty numbers for Nebraska are misleading. They had 3 penalties against UTEP, 4 against UNI, and 12 against Colorado with 9 of those coming in the 4th quarter from biased Big 12 officials.
Sam, your knowledge of Nebraska is quite impressive for a non Husker fan. My compliments!
One think I would add is this: the Nebraska offense is being severely undersold by the national media. And even some local media. Huskers offense has actually been very very good, it's just being masked by a couple things.
1 - all 3 games were over at HT. Rhule chose to protect the lead all 3 games and that drove down stats.
2 - Nebraska has drawn SEVEN defensive pass interference penalties in 3 games. That is remarkable for a team that couldn't throw the ball at all last year. Opposing teams have been very fearful of letting Raiola & his WRs get going. They've taken the DPI an amazing amount of time. If they played straight up, Nebraska would have way more passing yards.
3 - 6-7 phantom penalties in the Colorado game probably cost 21 points.
If you add all that context in, Nebraska would be averaging another 125 yds/gm and another 14 pts/gm. So the NU offense hasn't been just basic/ball control...it's actually been explosive when it needs to be. 7 DPIs have dampened the stats on that. And the phantom penalties in CU game have dampened that.
For this reason, don't be surprised if they let loose with a 42 pt game against UI, Purdue, Rutgers or Indiana. The explosiveness has actually been there since game 1, it's just been covered up be the aforementioned reasons.

I got Nebraska 38 - 17. I don’t expect this game to be close at all, NU jumps to an early lead and grinds it out just like the first two weeks.

I feel a lot more confident in the Illinois score side of this but I would say 31ish to 13-16 in favor of Nebraska. I really think the defense will show out.

5 reasons why Nebraska will win. They are better at the line of scrimmage, they have more quality receivers to throw to, Nebraska has a very good coaching staff, home field advantage, and Nebraska has better running backs.

Wrong in every way. Lol. Nebraska has a more talented qb, but more inexperienced and was supposed to have a better dline who got manhandled schematically by the better illinois coaching staff. Rhule and staff are scammers...Rhule is already fired...8-8 with a middle school staff of coaches at WR, RB, ST, OL and it shows. Got straight up outcoached...

I have 31-7 Nebraska, but let's see what happens.
I like your prediction of 31-16. It sounds about right. Could be 38-16

I said 31-13, so we're pretty close. Nebraska is going to flex its depth and homefield advantage.
These teams are very similar.
1st is always turnovers. Especially against Illinois. Nebraska is 100x better than last year. But Illinois is very good at creating turnovers and not giving the ball up.
2nd is field position, Nebraska has controlled field position very well so far. And clock both these teams can hold on to the ball.
3rd is setting the pace early. With that defense and an early lead, it is hard to come back from. Can Illinois keep it close the whole game?
4th is special teams. If it comes down to it, can Nebraska make kicks when it counts?
Nebraska is the same team as last year with a very good freshman qb who is carrying the offense. A bad game by d is a guaranteed loss with terrible special teams an no leadership on offense.
@@notiowegian that is not true. Special teams and defense are pretty much the same. The offense is completely different.
@@JeremyMcIntyre-v1n The offense is awful outside of DR...his only two INTs were when the other teams db stole the ball from our WRs...the line is bad as usual and has to keep extra blockers to keep DR clean..the back generally lack vision and miss the few holes that are open. And DR himself is poor in the short passing game in the middle of the field, and we have one of the worst OCs in the nation statistically..he has never had an average ranked offense and is almost always in the bottom 30 percentile for yards per game in his career at multiple places. The team is built on defense, offense and special teams are bad, and the defense is now a mess. Rhule has two games...he needs to win them both or his career is over. If he isn't 5-1 for Indiana he won't make a bowl game this year, he will lose a ton for next year and might lose DR if he they crap out to end the season...Tony White is gone, defense will have to be rebuilt and Satt is just bad, no other way to say it. Rhule will be gone in two years and another start over.

Is Bert back? Yes, he's Bert, not Bret. He was good at Wisconsin, awful at Arkansas, and since being at Illinois, he has been able to win big games and to look good sometimes. I would have to pick the Huskers, and I do want them to win. This is just a game that I wouldn't be betting on.

Having watched this video in its entirety prior to the game, I couldn’t help but feel that you wayyyyy over hyped Nebraska. They played 2 low level teams and an overhyped Colorado.
I’m not saying Illinois faired much better seeing how Kansas struggled prior to their loss to IL

Is there a consensus on how to pronounce "Raiola"? It seems that it is about an even split in the media. Half say RAY ola and half say RYE ola. Does anyone know for sure?
I thought that Dominic Raiola was always called RAY ola when he was in the NFL.

I really don't know if either team will score 30 ish points unless there is multiple turnovers. This will be an exciting ole Big Ten West showdown in the Friday Night Lights.
If Illinois wins I expect it'll include three or four FGs. I think Altmeyer will throw a TD pass, win or lose. He has developed good touch, but especially he throws a nice long ball. He is dangerous when he runs, and even scored on a long run vs. Nebraska in 2023. His best two receivers are bigger and more physical than last year's.
