You have to consider, how this will translate into a real live show. Not every fan is going to be in 1st, 2nd or 3rd row. A good chunk of fans do have to rely on what the big screens are showing them, to actually see some details of their favorite band and the show they're watching. It's a bit strage to immagine to see artificially altered footage of the lead singer on that screen, instead of what you actually want to see. It might result in some cool effects, but I can understand, that some people will be pissed.
yeah well the screens have showed edited footage for a while now 🤷🏻♀️ it was different at their shows this year but it didnt just show live footage of the band then either
@@hattarapilvi Yes, sure. I didn't specifically mean BMTH with that, but more the situation in general. But even there, their live festival shows often did show live footage of the band on additional screens, when there were those depending on the individual festival (some festivals do come with one or more screens to the left and right of the stage to show the band). But yes, agreed, many bands use them to show some fitting sound visualization, effects, snippets of music videos, song lyrics, etc.
Nope, was at the upper seats in a big ass stadium and it was sick as fuck. It's ONE song out of a 2 hour set that uses that heavy filter, you'll have plenty of opportunity to look at Oli's face don't worry.
Starset also did this in one of their latest music videos. They paid a lot of artists to create art for the video and they threw it into an AI generator to give it that look. It got so much backlash saying they should pay the artists and respect the artists work, that the lead singer Dustin made a reference to someone saying that in a new music video for TokSik toward the end. Great video, yall should check them both out.
Screens behind all bands was old 8 years ago. Show production is becoming lazy while more money is being charged. I can't stand the screens every friggen band has now. I can't be alone.
It's a fun idea if you would be a doing a Halloween themed concert. But in all honesty. Those big screen are often there to allow audience members in the distance to have a clear view of what is going on on Stage. Imagine being in a big arena in the back and Ollie is just a little bit visible on stage. These big screens add another layer of enjoyment. But if they are using it for A.I visuals then you won't get to see Ollie but just A.I generated beings. People are coming to HEAR and SEE Bring Me The Horizon and not Bring Me The A.I Visuals.
Yup! saw megadeth and since i didnt really care for big crowds i was in the back and those big screens where i could see Teemu or Dave shredding on guitar from a way back really helped the show expirience.
Don't see an issue. Last Download Fest - Avenged Sevenfold used same feature to turn themselves into Grim Reapers.. and many other effects... Didn't see any backlash for them... so WTF BMTH got theirs for??
Coming from someone in the industry - Each band is trying to outdo their last tour, trying to outdo each other in a fun way, and trying to make the show the most engaging and entertain thing it can be. People are paying a ton of money to come to a show and they have a lot of other things competing for their attention. I think it's awesome and I love seeing the bigger bands push the limit of what we can expect at a show. It's fun.
it wont stop me going to their shows but personally i dont like it, didnt like it when avenged done it and same here. if im far enough away to need the screens then i wanna be able to see the people actually there not some fake cgi version but thats just me
OMFG, I was thinking the same exact damn thing! Like, did we go back to the 90's and no one told me? I'd be pretty upset bc I looooved the 90's music scene, lol
I know this is a rock news channel, but have you ever watched an Anyma show? Their live performances are incredible, with AI visualizers and lights that create an amazing experience.
Oh noooo he didn’t really turn into a werewolf or zombie 😢 dudes are killin it let them have fun with the filters! They’re having fun and giving a stellar show. The drama queens having a sook need to stop.
I was at one of those concerts, it was great. People will always find something to complain about in social media, it's just not worth the time and effort to pay attention to those people.
Just gonna say that A7F did exactly this effect at Download this year. I personally don't have an issue with it, and as long as it isn't impacting the art, musically or otherwise, then I can't see any reason why they can't use it for their shows.
i think it upsets the fans during live shows because when you're far away from the stage you want to recognize your artist on the big screens, which could be frustrating at a certain amount of time during the show when what fans really wants to see is their favorite's singer real face.
I don't see the issue with this type of use for A.I. It doesn't affect their music at all and is just a cool visual effect. I think some people are way too sensitive to anything relating to A.I. Which is ironic, since its been incorporated in social media platforms and TH-cam for years already when it comes to Algorithm and other things.
The same thing has been done, without AI, since the 1980s. And on TV performances, since the 1960s. It's, really, pretty cool. Like a live action music video. Or a TOOL show.
I think the issue with BMTH using an AI filter is moreso a problem of something like this effect existing in the current live show landscape. Not to sound like I'm trying to take some magic away or anything, but a lot of live show production is basically planned out with stuff like backing tracks and the over-reliance on computers for a lot of stage effects. I remember Falling In Reverse cancelling shows a couple years back because their laptops went missing, meaning that their *entire live show* depended on it. It sucks that things are pre-planned to that degree, but that's the world we live in and that means we have to account for the one question people never ask about stuff like that: who put it all together? BMTH is in a bit of a grey area with this. In execution, the effect does fit the description of a filter on social media. The issue arises with how the AI achieves this effect. Is it a pre-existing AI model that the band just got the rights to use for live performances, or is it an AI trained *specifically* on visuals produced *specifically* for the band? To my knowledge, this is how Linkin Park handled the marketing for the 20th anniversary of Meteora - getting an artist to make artwork for the band, that is then fed to an AI algorithm to achieve those warped visuals. Opinions on whether or not it looks good are valid, but the bottom line is that a real human being was paid to help achieve this effect. This is an example of an AI being used as a tool. With the AI filter effect, there are just too many unknowns and contradictions to fully accept at face value. Was an artist hired to have their art (and only their art) trained on for this effect, or is the AI doing all the heavy lifting with the plethora of information and art it has absorbed online (which is usually is taken without the original creator's knowledge or consent)? If there are several visual effects incorporated into the live show already that are controlled (assumedly) by a manned computer, why did this have to be AI? Oli's always been a passionate artist, so wouldn't it be a more artistic undertaking to try an put together a less or even equally elaborate effect that the artist has complete and total control over? If it would be harder to achieve this effect without AI, wouldn't it still be worth the attempt without it? I think most artists would agree that good art isn't easy to make. I do hate how AI as a concept is being treated these days, as an almost miracle cure for anyone (usually companies) trying to save either an extra dime or much needed effort, and while I do think AI could have applications that aid in the creative process, if something like BMTH's AI effect is to be more widespread, there has to be much more transparency with who and what is involved. TL;DR: The issue is that we have to start treating AI like food, and beg the question "is this naturally sourced?" And if it isn't, we have to ask how processed it is.
This is just dumb. There's no way this could be done in real time by any other means! Mo-Cap? That would have terrible latency in that kinda fidelity as well! People can't seem to see beyond black and white regarding these matters
I literally was in the São Paulo show and they used this demon filter in one song only, because the camera was focusing entirely on Oli's face becoming this demon LIVE, a human can't do this LIVE, but technology can. The band proly contracted a team to make this part of the show, and they were paid to make this...
Ai in usual context is no go for me, but when its live it ads something that is impossible to do otherwise and doesn’t endanger anyones jobs, so for once I actually think its justifiable
Honestly that’s pretty sick, like out of all things… people can’t appreciate change nor art… also the edm community was fast to jump on using that to elevate visuals.
I think one of the reasons why people didn't like the use of Generative AI in the live show is because Gen AI can't produce anything out of thin air and has to pick from what already exists on the internet thus taking other artist's work and incorporate it into a generated product. In this case an animation for BMTH's live show. It looks bad on the band's part considering they've always been a band that has supported human artists and animators in the past for their work. Using Gen Ai is like stealing from other artist's that could have been paid to do the same exact thing.
Personally just seems like trying to level up the live show and sounds pretty cool. they are still writing, creating, and performing the music. I am all for it.
It just feels like if we normalise AI it will become used in music in ways of erasing art and human creativity. If they used mocap and commissioned an artist to make the visuals for them then cool asf. Using AI is just cheating imo and it's encouraging the robot revolution😂😂
@@stevemuzak8526 you are going to eat those words, AI is disgusting and people will push it all in the name of capital. first went the writers, then the artists, and you guest it up next, musicians.
Using photoshop was also cheating when it first came out. Same as digital audio software in recording studios. And the same with amp modellers/guitar processors. AI it's not cheating - it's a tool that we have to learn how to use to make our jobs and businesses more proficient. Every innovation is considered cheating until it becomes a standard.
also, bmth might be one of the bands that invests the most on visual art, so they aren't at all stealing work from visual artists, they usually have so much money put on promotional stuff and live visuals
Interesting. I guess the AI bit is the character generation and recognition. Back in the day in order to achieve this, you'd use a technique called mocap or motion capture and you'd likely have to wear a special suit which would help the software detect your body and face. Nowadays I guess it can detect those elements automatically using ML algorithms and sure, rendering it in real time is quite impressive. But motion capture has been used in media since the 90s. It was just pre-rendered, obviously. But for example the moves in the first Mortal Kombat were actors whose acting was captured in a similar manner and added onto the virtual characters.
I wanted to agree with the antis on this one but when I saw what they were talking about it’s actually just using an effect to make a real time video that would usually need to be pre-made, it’s a futuristicy kind of gimmick that’s simply utilizing the abilities of current technology, there’s no artist losing a job of pre-making videos of the bring me vocalist morphing into different monsters during his stage performance. Imagine if they got a hologram of him on stage morphing into monsters. Who’s losing their job then?
Avenged did this at download Festival, looks cool if you're near the front but can see the argument if you're at the back if used too much might look like a really expensive computer game you're watching with thousands of people in a field
im genuinely confused as to why people are even mad. do they just think it looks ugly??? i personally think it looks sick and i'm so excited to see how they keep evolving their stage performance, seeing them during their EU festival tour this year was visually the coolest show ive ever been to.
BMTH one of the headliners of a modern metal scene so bringing new technology into an EXPERIENCE during a life shows it's something I would like to see rather that don't! It should be different from an album listening journey, and I can say that show (visual as well) for their new album was amazing when I was there in a crowd during the last summer tour. I'm fully support band in that
The only issue is the ppl in the back having to watch the monitor only will see the band like this during the show. The ones close up can see the real band. Maybe use 2 monitors one norm one visual effect problem solved
People just want a reason to be mad, BMTH put on some of the best shows I've been to, the evolution of their on stage performance has been awesome seeing new things and watching them progress as a band over the years has been amazing.
This is awesome. I can’t believe people still complain about this. It’s been blatantly obvious since the Sempiternal era that he is singing through effects, including auto tune, and performing with backing tracks. The people complaining about this probably don’t have a single photo that hasn’t been touched up. Edit: maybe I spoke to you soon. A minute in and I see that you are referring to visuals lol
As long as it was for the odd song and not the entire concert, then go for it. it's cool! I can totally understand people not wanting it the whole show, coz sometimes all you can see is the screen and not the band, and ultimately, you want to see the actual band with your own eyes, even if it is on the screen.
Hold on, this looks sooo sick !! Don't understand what people are upset about they're still on stage and this is only a background, no? I was at an Ax7 concert this June and didn't even catch what happened the first few seconds. When I did, the live show felt even more awesome to me. I really love things like these, no live concert feels the same and this just heightens that ❤
So let me get this straight. We're mad about them using what is potentially AI art or a filter for a single song but we listened to the entire nex-gen: post human album and didn't consider the fact that every single part of it has been very "inspired" by 90s and early 2000s music of similar genres? If you're gonna criticize them for being inauthentic at least be consistent. That being said, I still love the album.
This controversy is ridiculous. This is used for like 20-30 seconds of the whole show and definitely not something any human being could do in real time, so no one lost or will ever lose their jobs due to this specific kind of technology existing.
This is the only use of AI that I think is okay art-wise. An artist can’t do this in real time and is still needed but Linkin Park did this with Lost and Periphery with Atropos. Both bands were actually the first to do it (they were doing it at the same time with the same artists unknowingly). A filter is okay as long as it doesn’t replace artists or take work from them.
The question is where we will draw the line. Little by little AI it's being incorporated into every part of our lives, but what then? It's scary to think about
I'm a be honest, that looks interesting. I don't know why people are hating on them. For innovating their music, their live performance, it's their Show, let them do what they want .Unless it's actually like a controversial situation
I’m a bit surprised people have gone a bit AWOL about anything AI. Given the concepts around their recent eps and albums it makes sense to use these technologies creatively
It is not a misunderstanding at all. It is just people (consumers) who live online and as a result are emotionally and mentally unstable shallow thinkers. So they rarely access the reasoning part of their brains, they just stay in the animalistic reaction portion of their brain... which has been exercised by things like youtube shorts and tik tok videos and comment sections. So their instincts is to react to words or topics emotionally, rejecting everything contrary to that reaction as misinformation or an attack. Pushing back with memorized talking points while entirely ignoring facts or reasoning to the contrary.
Very much depends on what dataset the visual effects are trained on. If it's all paid/in-house art, there's nothing wrong with it. If it takes public work regardless of copyright, then it muddies the waters. Definitely not inherently okay just because it's visual and not audio but AI isn't inherently bad.
I think this shouldn't be a problem. As you mention that this is just for live visual. Basically work like snapchat filter. They still need to hire Visual Jockey to control other visual on their stages.

First thought at seeing that video was that it looked exactly like the AI effects A7X uses on the LIBAD tour, Nightmare specifically
My very first thought too. And A7X has always been praised for their forward thinking and pro-tech approaches.
Of course the coworkers in the comments love the Ai slop
Didnt Linkin park use like a shit ton of A.I art in their 20th anniversary of meteora videos?
yeah and it was terrible, that could have been someones dream job to create something beautiful but instead they took the cheap route.
Yeah and they got crap for it
@@CrypticlyEncrypted Not that I saw, all I ever saw and heard was positive responses to it but if you say so
Yeah & im sure some of the From Zero art is AI too, their music itself sounds AI generated with how formulaic & hollow it all feels

Screens behind all bands was old 8 years ago. Show production is becoming lazy while more money is being charged. I can't stand the screens every friggen band has now. I can't be alone.
to me its like the titan tron on monday night raw. You gotta have it!
My man always rockin the throwback nostalgic No Fear or Jnco tee shirts, major props for keeping the old school brands goin! 😂👍
I saw bmth at a big arena and they didn’t even have big screens and still had a great time but I get what you’re saying
Yup! saw megadeth and since i didnt really care for big crowds i was in the back and those big screens where i could see Teemu or Dave shredding on guitar from a way back really helped the show expirience.
I agree 👍
Don't see an issue. Last Download Fest - Avenged Sevenfold used same feature to turn themselves into Grim Reapers.. and many other effects... Didn't see any backlash for them... so WTF BMTH got theirs for??
Thank you for covering this, I didnt even know about this 😭.
Bro it’s so tiring when someone drags out a 10 second video into a 6 minute one
Coming from someone in the industry - Each band is trying to outdo their last tour, trying to outdo each other in a fun way, and trying to make the show the most engaging and entertain thing it can be. People are paying a ton of money to come to a show and they have a lot of other things competing for their attention. I think it's awesome and I love seeing the bigger bands push the limit of what we can expect at a show. It's fun.
it wont stop me going to their shows but personally i dont like it, didnt like it when avenged done it and same here. if im far enough away to need the screens then i wanna be able to see the people actually there not some fake cgi version but thats just me
Great video, but can we just take a moment to acknowledge Dude's No Fear T-shirt? I remember that brand when I was in elementary school. 🤘🤘
Lol whats wrong with a sheet painted with the band's logo? Im old.
I like ur analogy that its like a camera filter. I think its cool.
I personally don't have an issue with it, and as long as it isn't impacting the art, musically or otherwise, then I can't see any reason why they can't use it for their shows.
saw them live yesterday in Argentina, I thought it was a pre rendered video and a choreography
i think it upsets the fans during live shows because when you're far away from the stage you want to recognize your artist on the big screens, which could be frustrating at a certain amount of time during the show when what fans really wants to see is their favorite's singer real face.
Count your blessings is one of my favorite albums. It’s sad to see how far BMTH has strayed away from that though…
I don't see the issue with this type of use for A.I. It doesn't affect their music at all and is just a cool visual effect.
I think some people are way too sensitive to anything relating to A.I. Which is ironic, since its been incorporated in social media platforms and TH-cam for years already when it comes to Algorithm and other things.
this could have been someones job but instead took the cheap route and taking away the human element from art.
The same thing has been done, without AI, since the 1980s. And on TV performances, since the 1960s. It's, really, pretty cool. Like a live action music video. Or a TOOL show.
i wish there was a real creative hand behind it not ai
A7X used something similar with flames, it's freaking sick!
Ha ha, and then you just said it! Yep, saw them live in SLC, so cool.
A7X already use this
Dude that's SIIIICK. I've been dying to see them live for years!! People will literally complain about anything.
It's not even a slight problem. There's nothing wrong with what BTH is doing. People are just stpd & pathetic.
BUT what they’re doing is opening the door for more..
It's over for artists. AI is here to stay.
@@stevemuzak8526 I hope you enjoy seeing your favorite bands losing their jobs lol
@@doctorrobert1339 AI can't replace live bands.
I was more outraged by the No Fear shirt, haven’t seen that brand in like 15 years my man
Interesting.
I think this almost adds to the live element, and the technology is so impressive...
im genuinely confused as to why people are even mad. do they just think it looks ugly??? i personally think it looks sick and i'm so excited to see how they keep evolving their stage performance, seeing them during their EU festival tour this year was visually the coolest show ive ever been to.
A7X used something similar in their shows this year and it looked amazing
People just want a reason to be mad, BMTH put on some of the best shows I've been to, the evolution of their on stage performance has been awesome seeing new things and watching them progress as a band over the years has been amazing.
This is awesome. I can’t believe people still complain about this. It’s been blatantly obvious since the Sempiternal era that he is singing through effects, including auto tune, and performing with backing tracks. The people complaining about this probably don’t have a single photo that hasn’t been touched up.
Edit: maybe I spoke to you soon. A minute in and I see that you are referring to visuals lol
The No Fear brand is still around? Thought that went out somewhere in the 2000s.
Not a BMTH fan but this is a cool visual effect and kudos to them for innovating the concert experience.
Good grief people will complain about literally anything....
As long as it was for the odd song and not the entire concert, then go for it. it's cool!
I can totally understand people not wanting it the whole show, coz sometimes all you can see is the screen and not the band, and ultimately, you want to see the actual band with your own eyes, even if it is on the screen.
I like what I saw of this. I haven't ever seen BMTH live but I think that this concept is very cool.
I've been to the live show in São Paulo, And I have to say It was one of the best live performances I've seen.
People watch those monitors because they can’t see the stage. People need them, it’s not a toy to mess around with too much.
Hold on, this looks sooo sick !!
Don't understand what people are upset about
they're still on stage and this is only a background, no?
I was at an Ax7 concert this June and didn't even catch what happened the first few seconds.
When I did, the live show felt even more awesome to me.
I really love things like these, no live concert feels the same and this just heightens that ❤
People choose the oddest things to be offended about
A fan is a fan no matter what
The new NPC bot update is to hate on all AI, it's crazy how you can see it in real time...
It's so funny that there are still Bring Me fans who get upset by Bring Me doing something new. This band is doing something new all the time.
I think the majority of people commenting on this are not the true ones who actually liking the music.
Oli knows whats cool before you all know it. Visionary.
He proofed that more than once
People will complain about anything.
WinAMP reference! Thanks for making me feel old....
As long as the music is live. This is cool as hell. As long as the music is live
Most BMTH “fans” will F off when they can’t stand the new direction without the pop sound Fish brought to the band.
Very much depends on what dataset the visual effects are trained on. If it's all paid/in-house art, there's nothing wrong with it. If it takes public work regardless of copyright, then it muddies the waters. Definitely not inherently okay just because it's visual and not audio but AI isn't inherently bad.
They do this at Bucs games with fans ! Kind of cool!
I think this shouldn't be a problem. As you mention that this is just for live visual. Basically work like snapchat filter. They still need to hire Visual Jockey to control other visual on their stages.
Bro really brought up the old school visualizer lol. Nostalgia 😅
