I have tried both methods. For me a single strap button *or even better a pickup button) and a tie above the bridge works best. I find my uke is better balanced with the headstock attachment.
I think I accidentally bought a Ukulele strap. (I was trying to buy a hawaiian patterned guitar strap) It's not as wide as my guitar strap and it has the same logo as the straps in this video. My uke doesn't have a strap button. Will it work with a guitar or will it break?
Does it harm the instrument if you do it yourself? Like will tuning never be the same? Or how do you know if you ruined it? For me, i would be putting it on a cheaper laminated wood model. (a Kala one) Any feedback would help! Thanks!
Simply the act of doing it yourself won’t harm the instrument as long as it’s done properly. Again, if done right, it wouldn’t affect the tuning. If you are in doubt we highly suggest going to a local music shop and asking them for some help.
I have a Kanile'a uke with the same headstock as you show in this video. But I don't attach my strap to the headstock like you show - it's up higher around the middle piece of the headstock - so that the strap does not get in the way of my left hand. Am I risking damaging the headstock by wrapping around the middle instead of the base of the headstock?
Aloha, as long as you are not seeing any damage done it will likely be ok. We have not heard of this being tried before actually and if it works for you then that is all that matters. The stress of the strap tied there isn't going to be too high, so there isn't a need for worry. Thanks for checking.
Your energy is amazing 🙏🏾
Very good!

Thanks for the confidence booster. I would say they should be fitted by professionals.
I love my strap on my ukulele. Love my Kanilea Ukulele, its so sweet.......
Two strap buttons is definitely better. It’s awkward and binding to have the strap attached to the headstock.
Kanilea ♥️

My diy drill hole for strap didn't work :'(

What model is the uke you are holding starting at about 1:56 in the video? So nice!
That is a 2016 Limited Edition Platinum Tenor
Glad you like it, Rick! That's my baby :)
Thanks Joe - do you use guitar strap buttons or are there some specially for ukulele. Mahalo
Aloha! Yes, we use guitar style strap buttons.

It allows me to let go of my uke while I play my harmonica or whistle!!
