      Connie: Coney Island is still there, as a matter of fact I recently moved back to Brighton Beach after moving out of New York for approximately 35 years. The only difference is now you have to carry a machine gun.🤗

    I live in Coney Island and I always wanted to know what the inside looked like, there is still beauty in it. I wish it can be restored.

      I was born in Brooklyn New York
      Went to Coney Island all the time. Whether it be to go to Nathan's Take a walk on the boardwalk spend the day on the beach.
      Later in life I moved to Brighton Beach if you are familiar with the area you are aware that it's right next to Coney. As a matter of fact my first job was working in the summer Coney Island Steeplechase Park. Then I got married and offered a good job in Washington DC.
      Lived there for a good 35 years with a big home in Baltimore County not in the city.
      Divorce, Came back to Brighton to take care of my elderly mother.
      She passed away recently. I'm now living in Brighton Beach again.
      Crazy how my life went full circle.

    It really looks like a beautiful theater. They should open it up again. It will be great to watch a holiday show from there; I can imagine watching The Nutcracker during the holidays from this theater.

    • @mbass718
      @mbass718 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let's do it!!! I'm in if you wanna try. I suspect it wouldn't be easy and I have no idea who owns it but it's such a waste to have it just sitting there when it represents so much history. The people who performed there were legendary!!

  • @mbass718
    @mbass718 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    It's sad that one of the last remaining old-time Coney island theatres is still standing yet not being renovated and used. That theatre has so much history. They really should fix it up and restore it the same way the King's theater was restored to all it's grandeur.

    • @hdjksa52
      @hdjksa52 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a big business risk, no one wants to take a chance at losing money. You have to remember when this theater was open, Coney Island was a resort. I grew up in Coney Island during the 1980's and left in 1993ish. when I lived there, It was a rough neighborhood. Are people willing to go to a rough part of town for dinner and a show?

    • @mbass718
      @mbass718 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hdjksa52 I grew up there in the 70s/80s and it was bad. But it's a completely different place now. It's not perfect but it's nowhere near as dangerous as it was and there's plenty of new attractions and things to do. Yeah it'd be a business risk but they could absolutely refurbish it and bring plenty of shows there. The amphitheater they built does well in the summer. If there was a nice old theater there they could bring in acts.. music, comedy, theater, movies etc.. and people would come.

    • @hdjksa52
      @hdjksa52 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mbass718 You're possibly right, but no one wants to take a chance at trying that. That's a very risky business venture. I saw The Childs Building (the old chocolate factory) was converted into a night club. From what I hear, it didn't last very long (please correct me if I am wrong). I was living in Staten Island when they started a ferry service going to the pier in front of the new baseball stadium. I don't believe that service is offered anymore. Astroland had closed down in 2010 and Fabers arcade also closed down because of Thor realties. Investing in Coney Island seems very risky right now.

    • @mbass718
      @mbass718 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hdjksa52 The Child's building was turned into a big restaurant with rooftop parties. I'm not sure if they made it through the pandemic but it's attached to the amphitheater they built and that's definitely still going. No more astroland but there's new theme parks that have way more rides and attractions and they're adding more rollercoasters and other stuff. It's way nicer now though I wish they didn't kick out most of the old bars and the attractions that made Coney island what it was. The side show is still there going strong and there's always crowds at the new parks. New restaurants as well. Some better than others. Anything is risky. You either jump in and take the risk or you don't.

    • @hdjksa52
      @hdjksa52 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mbass718 I agree that anything is risky. And like you said: you either jump in and take a risk or you don't. That's what we're looking at in this situation. People are not willing to jump in and take that business risk. Coney Island has been associated with being a bad area since the 70's (hence the movie _The Warriors_ ). It's going to take a lot to bring it back to it's glory days and people feeling comfortable with property there. Until then, the idea is going to be met with apprehension.

    There are multiple other big old movie (probably movie/vaudeville) houses elsewhere in Brooklyn with some store shoved into the first floor and the huge unused theater building still there. I know of two of them, and just because they are near me on the D subway line.

    I always wondered what was inside , I remember the coney island animal shelter next door to the theater and there were an assortment of little animals you could pet and hold,,,,, now that was in the 60s ,,,,,,, I see a lot has changed , what a f#$%*#g shame that building was left to rot like that ,,,,,, coney island went to crap in the 60s and 70s because of the people who lived in the projects that were targeting people who were at coney island for a good time, they'd walk the beach the boardwalk the Nathan's hotdog stand ,,,,,,, you had to watch what streets you were walking down as not to become a target for robbery and assault, I'm sure that's the same thing now .

      As the snow flies
      On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
      A poor little baby child is born
      In the ghetto
      (In the ghetto)
      And his mama cries
      'Cause if there's one thing that she don't need
      It is another hungry mouth to feed
      In the ghetto
      (In the ghetto)
      People, don't you understand
      The child needs a helping hand
      Or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
      Take a look at you and me
      Are we too blind to see?
      Do we simply turn our heads
      And look the other way
      Well, the world turns
      And a hungry little boy with a runny nose
      Plays in the street as the cold wind blows
      In the ghetto
      (In the ghetto)
      And his hunger burns
      So he starts to roam the streets at night
      And he learns how to steal
      And he learns how to fight
      In the ghetto
      (In the ghetto)
      Then one night in desperation
      The young man breaks away
      He buys a gun, steals a car
      Tries to run, but he don't get far
      And his mama cries
      As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
      Face down on the street with a gun in his hand in Coney Island
