@@notreal7169came here to say this too! She is a writer the same stature of Woolf imo, just not as famous bc was Brazilian and wrote in Portuguese. But her whole literature is very philosophical, having a lot of dialogue with Kierkegaard and Hesse.

I am so happy to see Clarisse Lispector on that list. Usually, the only Brazilian author people read in the United States is Paulo Coelho.

Can't believe I'm seeing someone else recommending Lerner's work, especially leaving the Atocha station - truly incredible novel from a young (at the time) author and as a young American who had an extremely similar experience in the same city, it resonated deeply with me.

  • @stevenkandro7453

Just read leaving the Atocha station. At first I hated the main character but come the end I thought it was a beautifully written philosophical novel that explores mental health and substance abuse. The way the main character catastrophes es is so relatable.

I have been listening to a lot of your TH-cam videos for a while now and I even finally understood the Hegelian Dialectic principle through you. Thanks for the recommendations and I love your new Aesthetic series. It is intriguing to me as a Software Engineer because it seems that there is something universal indeed about aesthetics even though beauty, as they say, is subjective, case in point; the various software trends that all apps end up following even though they have extremely different UI teams on every company, which I thought after hearing your explanations, could be neatly explained by Aesthetic or at least as Kant or Plato put it. I do have a hard time understanding the book though.

I would say that while Middlemarch is the best, basically any George Eliot novel is a good time (not for the characters lol)

The Trial is the book that made Kafka click with me. I honestly think about it at least once a month. It is EXACTLY what life feels like now lol. Things randomly happen to you from a faceless entity, then you run around to different websites and apps trying to find who to talk to about wtf is even happening to you, the answer is they don't know and the company that ran that website didn't exist anymore-then that happens on loop until you die😤🤣

Another book by Clarice that not many read but I think is amongst her best works is “agua viva” (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81gua_Viva_(novel). It’s stream of consciousness which is not everyone’s cup of tea but for those who enjoy the book is simply exhilarating.

    "The Plague" - Albert Camus.
    "La nausee" - Jean-Paul Sartre.
The above books are good if you have interests in existentialism.
"The Name of the Rose" - Umberto Eco. This book is good if you are interested in Semiotics and Medieval history.
"Brave new World" - Oldus Huxley
    "1984" - George Orwell.
These are those who are interested in Political Philosophy and Utopia.
