Yup. Good choice on the Lexan. That stuff takes quite a bit of abuse. You can scratch proof it by adding 0 tint film to both sides. As that surface gets worn, you just replace that. I replaced all the windows on my excavator cab with Lexan and have been doing this trick (the film) for 4 years now. Works really nice.
I hope you were able to paint your steel frame so water cannot seep in and rust if out. You are really amazing with your build and R and D in the process of manufacture.
Yeah I'll mount some quarter turns as a last resort. Those gas springs usually leak off after a couple years so I figured I should get stronger springs to account for that "shelf life"

A couple latches seem easier than bigger gas struts. I'd expect too much dickery with bigger struts,.
