For real, this video should be shown to every chronically online Christian. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the drama and debate stuff, to then lose sight of Christ.
Yes this is true, I'm also convinced 90% of the commentors on this stuff who go back and forth with each other aren't even actual church attenders, I've met so many Christians of different denominations in real life and this hostile energy is nowhere, most are just very welcoming and nice.
Tell my why this video comes up after I watch Jay dyer debates slowbois for a week straight. Praise God 🙏🏻 Great video! Always our relationship with Christ first, then everything else after.
I don't watch debates that much but I do watch the regular videos those debaters make, but debates are still very important to watch, also I wouldn't call it brain rot if it helps you get more informed
True, but I don't think that is what he's talking about. I think it's about the tendency to get so sucked into them that they basically BECOME your faith, and you spend more time watching debates and apologetic stuff than building up your own faith in prayer and love.
Oriental orthodoxy denies the hypo static union which we see clearly throughout the bible as we see Jesus is called the son of man (representing his human nature) and he's also called the son of God (representing his divine nature)
I'm an Eastern Orthodox catechumen in ROCOR and I have much respect for the Oriental Orthodox Miaphysite churches in terms of understanding the theological traditions behind both. I have met 2 OO irl (as theres a syriac church in mt town as well) and they're fantastic people. Online, however, I cannot stand them. They're like Dyer spergs (im a Dyer fan) except with muslim aesthetics. No offense, of course, just my experience.
@CyrilMatthai-jr8lw The overemphasis on vague "oneness" as well as the aversion to distinctions. That being Christ cannot be one yet multiple simultaneously, to my understanding. Rather Christ's two natures sort of dissolve into one another. Other than that I like OO.
I admire the depth of intelligence and learning they have but there’s something disturbing about Dyer and his acolytes. They appear fearless but it’s not very clear if they have any self-awareness when it comes to fearing God. I’d love to see them advocating the need for confession and consuming the Eucharist in holiness with fear and trembling. Our fear of God is reflected in our obedience to His commandments and there are only two. If loving the Church prevents us from loving God or loving our fellow man, we have gone wrong. Dyer, Erhan, and the like can quote the fathers at will but I’m yet to hear them share with their listeners the counsel they’ve personally received from their Spiritual Fathers or any details about their own inner spiritual lives.
@@MrTerkoizzzWe never ever say that humanity and divinity dissolve into each other in Christ. We do say that the distinction is in thought alone. @CyrilMatthai-jr8lw As a Dyerite I would def tell you we def believe we ought take Eucharist and confess with love, piety, and fear of God. But you are right in the sense some Dyerbros/Orthobros are lacking true humility. Jay himself is actually very humble but, just like everyone else, can get enraged my low IQ slowbois on the internet.
He isnt saying we shouldn’t do apologetics, he’s telling us to actually have a relationship with Christ and to not get too caught up in the debate drama.
@, correct. However, online debating can and often does distract from prayer and supplication. I should know, I debate online pretty frequently and, unfortunately, I do sometimes get distracted from what truly matters.
