    i have a 13 year old pontiac grand prix gtp coupe, and i get the same highway fuel efficiency as an SI, a larger back seat than the SI. twice the torque of the SI, 40 more horsepower than the SI, and the satisfaction of ripping SI's at red light drag races...and i'm only 17

    I am a huge Honda enthusiast, but they have really lost their way recently. First the TL and now this? Wake up Honda! Hopefully they will handle this better than they handled the V6 automatic transmission disasters that plagued them from 2000-2005.

    I'll keep my 2004 EM2. :) Still one of the best-looking Civics to date if you ask me.

    I like this civic, I liked the the previous gen. too... Preference I guess since so many dislike it. Hyundai's lineup is too much curvy and futuristic for my tastes especially with its coupe like roof line would hinder head room.
    Honda is just refining an already great seller in the US.

    @590221010 It was amazing, it was an affordable well built coupe that is arguably the greatest Honda ever made. Its sad they dont bring it back because they would have a big following. It wasn't RWD like the S2K but it had a hell of a following.

    @TorontoBoi yea i dont see why Honda doesnt make a Civic Si wihth more horsepower. They dont really have many performance cars at all, and the Civic is bought by many people. The Si should be sitting at 250 -300 hp by now stock form the factory especially with a 2.4L. But Honda is Honda, people will still buy thier cars. And yea the styling of this model Civic is not my thing at all.

  • @privatepadilla
    @privatepadilla 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure why all the exaggerations of these Civics' fault's and exaggerations and/or blatant lie's about other cars' pro's are necessary to state that you don't like this car, but it's pretty funny.
    The styling is a nice evolutionary revision up front. The back is too busy IMO though.
    The fuel-efficiency of the non-SI models is good. Ditto for the "SI", although the weight should have been further reduced so as to keep [TOP-END-]power-to-weight about the same w/ this under-square engine.

    hondas are great and reliable. and I love my 2008 civic for its reliability, commuter comfort and good gas milage, and fun handling. But thats IT! I have a motorcycle for the fun part of my traveling.
    - honda has been a great company, but like all the other companies right now its undergoing a transition, much like toyota. Honda has grown too comfortable in the market and is going downhill. much like the american car companies did for the last 12 years.

    @grant6730 Some of us are true to the brand, and don't want a Chevy/daewoo, Subaru with tranny problems, Ford stang (uhggg!), or a Hyudai (Honda wannabe). I've had 8 civics, from Gen 1 CVCC, and the 3rd gen hatches (320,000 miles), and up to the 6th Gen Si and sedan VP ...and they all have been great reliable cheap cars with almost NO maintenance for 100,000 miles. I personally drive a '04 TL and an Integra RS (D18A) both are made by Honda- I've owned 45+ cars, Honda's the best! God Bless

    @ColdNapalm42 Yah I test drove the GTI. Im at the point where ive wanted a new car for a few years now but Honda has nothing on their lot and nothing coming that makes me want to run and put money down on a new car! I thought id always stay with Honda for life but times have changed. I really love the whole Hyundai lineup but im Eyein a 370z for my next sports car. OH well, Honda was fun at one time....90s-early 00's.

    The front is a Corolla and the back is a Camry, lol. And i'm soo glad to see that we're still cranking out dinosaur GAS-powered cars, even 100 years after the invention of the automobile.
    Funny how Henry Ford's wife in the 1930's (yes, over 80 YEARS ago) said she preferred the electric car over the gasoline powered car. Meanwhile we have cars that can run on WATER via electrolisis in Japan (google it).

  • @flurry
    @flurry 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    "The magic 40 MPG on the highway" hah hah hah!
    VW's way bigger diesel Passat manages the exact highway MPG and can also manage a trailer tow option (that Honda doesn't even dares to mention) and roof luggage (not just lightweight surfboards). All with WAY better acceleration and without need to reach the engine's redline!
    VTEC's so outdated these days.

  • @TorontoBoi
    @TorontoBoi 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @scarface1224md yeah yeah, i know. But you have to admit there's millions of Civic SI enthusiasts out there and they really care about HP. I"m past that silly phase since i can only drive in bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic to work. Anyway, i worked in the automotive industry for 10 years and i'm not impressed with the engine, and they styling is too copy-cat Toyota.

  • @TorontoBoi
    @TorontoBoi 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    i just watched the entire video. WOW!! 4 extra HP!!!! Where do I sign up???? First i'll have to buy a special neck brace because i'm not sure if i handle an 20% larger engine that provides a whopping 1.5% increase in HP.
    Are you serious Honda?? Cuz it really doesn't seem like you listen to your customers.

    @Quartz482 No im not.The problem with american and japanese cars companys is that mostly all models look the same.They're all of ideas and creativivty.Im not expecting to see great things after 2012,2013 things are just gettin worser in appeareance, thats why i gonna be a designer.

    @Windgrace 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw the new civic at the dealership the other day and I love the styling! It takes the best parts of the last gen and improves them. It's a very handsome car. I think the focus/elantra are way overstyled and it makes them ugly, I prefer a simpler design.

  • @MrRod787
    @MrRod787 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Civic?, more like a focus and impreza u know.Japanese car designers doens't make expressive or different car anymore.God damn, good times when every car got its own identity and history...lately all jdms look the same shit.

  • @StalePhish
    @StalePhish 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @polkatit None of Hyundai's current line gets over 40mpg. Your 98 Civic HX may get 39mph, but takes a painful ~15 seconds to get to 60mph where the 2012 Civic is less than half of that

    I was wondering, how would you compare the 2012 Honda Civic to the redesigned 2013 Honda Civic.

  • @Yoda8232
    @Yoda8232 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hate it or love it, good cars don't need to change. Look at the Porsche Carrera, Aston Martin's.This has evolved, not too much but just right. Honestly the person who buys a regular Civic doesn't want power, they want it to be quiet, reliable, roomy, good on gas and this car does it. And the Si is a lot better, with the more displacement Si owners will start to know what torque is.
    IMO it's a better car overall but I'm not sure if it's a better Honda Civic.

  • @MrOverdoser
    @MrOverdoser 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @wildbloodydragon Taking into account cost/reliability/weight Honda is WAY cheaper/lighter! How much does your V8 weigh? Weight creates higher cost for things like Tires! Gas! Mods! -in fact, for the price of a set of performance tires for the Vette, I could by another 1st or 2nd gen Integra! I ♥ Honda's! BTW I've never had any major failure on the Honda's (Vette did, it cost Thousands!) My Vette was SOLD, But Have FUN with whatever you drive, and Always wear your Harness/Seat Belt!

LOL-here's my video of my k20 (carbon fiber hood, dropped 2", etc) watch?v=r1lqpo9uIE4 I even put 80K on it for you- YES, without mods it is just another civic! Want Stock? here is the video of my lt1 corvette. watch?v=C-fdNCeMd30 I've owned 50+ cars. I ♥ Hondas! Next Honda I'm picking up (Sunday) is the 1984 V65 Magna (1100cc -10,000 redline, 10.8 sec 1/4 mile at 124mph-SLEEEEPER!!!) Hell, it even my TL kicks ass! ....Jesus is the answer!

  • @soiceyboy33
    @soiceyboy33 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @tehatemachine What powertrain r u talking about? The motor is a 7 year old TSX engine!!!! They're so lazy at Honda nowadays that they couldn't even design a new engine, yet alone a decent rear end. Sadly, people like u don't realize how far Hyundai has come just because of it's name.....As for powertrain, they have the best warranty in the business 10yr, 100,000mi so idk what else you need.....HELL, they shouldn't even offer a warranty that good anymore with the quality cars they're making now

    @DaBluedude100 tellem bro! This review is a joke! I swear i just heard this motortrend tool describe this 2.4L engine as a "MID RANGE MONSTER!". This guy must get around in a pencil sharpener powered civic, 176 lb-ft does not equate to "MID RANGE". Im laughing my ass off, sad part is that this civic is going to sell like hot cakes too.

    German cars get Better looking, japanese cars get uglier. It's the same problem with the new subaru impreza, MT posted a first look and it looks like shit. like a toyota. and it sucks that subi is exiting the rally stage and those design elements will slowly dissapear.

    It's a Civic people...Honda isn't building a s2000 or NSX replacement here. Honda has always been a conservative company and this is exactly what I expect, a commuter car with decent mpg. If you want a sports car and are looking at a Civic we have some serious problems :b

  • @tom11zz884
    @tom11zz884 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honda is slipping big time..same boring dreadful styling, rear end looks like a camry.
    And why put a larger motor in the Si model, and only give it 4 more horses than the last generation model?
    Sadly, The new Nissan Juke looks more tempting to me.

    Woah! The 2.4 is the best thing to happen to a Civic Si- Finally LOTS of POTENTIAL! (Turbo anyone?) I bet we will see a lot more 300+HP Si's around town next year. Styling sucks, but that's what body kits are for!

    I am so glad I waited to buy the 2013 Civic because it is so much better than the 12. It has rear-view camera, Bluetooth, Pandora, and restyled front and rear bumpers. It is also quieter due to thicker windows & more sound deadening materials. It also handles better and is more safer with ACE-II body structure. Many 2012 owners are trading them in for the 2013 at probably a big loss.

  • @rheniformer
    @rheniformer 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bought a new Si sedan. The more I drive it the better I like it. I've owned many cars; all things considered this one makes me feel the best to drive of any. It's the 1st car since I surrendered my prized fox body 5.0 Mustang that's made me want to go places just so I can drive it. I don't get all the neg comments, probably just people that haven't driven it, perhaps my experience makes me appreciate a more mature car but after 38 years of driving at least I am still able to recognise progress.

  • @ColdNapalm42
    @ColdNapalm42 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Acc0rd79 Better yet, go buy a GTI, MS3, WRX or ralliart if you want an ACTUAL fun car in the around 25 grand (albeit the RA maybe pushing that) compact sports car category. This version of the SI may have gotten more torque, but it has had pretty much all the fun sucked out of it. Notice how they keep mention how it's more grown up and how smooth it is...that's not fun. That's what you use to describe a camry...not a bloody SI.

  • @Logicinuse12
    @Logicinuse12 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    could they be trying to sell hondas any more explicitily. Sounds like they read off hondas car description. Minimized all differences and downsides while enhancing everything else. "showing that the civic is designed more for fuel economy than perforance" 1:30 Have you ever heard that before in a small car review while sounding positive???
    Also, does the civic need to have a million trim levels?!

  • @JB1263
    @JB1263 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    00' Si is still my fav civic till this day (rice equipment exempt), 06' model was iffy when introduced but it grew on me but this is just the ugly side of beige from honda. Usually there's a big difference appearance wise with the next gen civics. HOPEFULLY the next rsx or rsx replacement isn't gonna be fugly like this, the acura counterparts half the time looks better but acura now seem to be aiming towards the middle aged crowd lol (no offense)

    @rforracing I had a piece of crap 95 Honda that had over 300k miles on it. Until I totaled it:(. But still, I think that the biggest thing is that Honda's have the great resale value. People should NEVER look at cars as investments, but it just goes to show how greatly built cars they are. I have never owned a Hyundai, and do not know much about them, but they don't seem as good as Honda's

    To be honest I think the new civic is a step back from the previous model, the exterior seems more bland, although the front end looks better, the overall car is disappointing. The interior is less exciting and 'futuristic' than the previous generation and the plastics look cheap. I'm pretty disppointed overall and was expecting a much more visually appealing and better product than this from honda

    ahahahahah!!! buddy i have a 2010 mazda 3 sport hatchback and its way better than a honda civic!! more power better handling more features etc... and now in 2012 the new ford forcus the new hyundai elantra the new chevy cruze!!! sorry man the civic is dead it might last along time but it has no new technology and the look is boring and so is the interior!! i admit the 2 liter high rpm engine was cool!! but now its as a boring accord engine with 4 extra hps!!! the mazda speed as 260 hps!!

    @MrOverdoser I would say most of what you wrote is absolutely true of Honda or Acura. But don't count out Hyundai they have made a lot of improvements on there cars. My parents have an 08 Elantra and My brother has the 07 Accent SR. Both have proven to be very reliable , they just don't have the reputation ( YET ) The 1988 CR-X of my brothers went 469,000 Kms without a lot of repairs. Honda is one of the BEST as I see it but there's a lot of competition out there now. Enjoy your Honda's !!

    @factionxvt408x I want to believe you...BUT I own a 4th gen Camaro, and I've had to replace the window motors on both sides twice, rebuild the rear-end and transmission, MAJOR service to the cooling system twice, and several other things....my 00 honda accord is rock solid, only maintenance = oil changes. Trust me, I want a 5.0 or C5 Z06 soo bad, but I just don't buy into the hype of American cars have caught up in quality...I think it's a gov't sponsored movement...

    so lets review what Honda has really updated....the enigine came from a TSX about 7 year old engine, the interior was gone sooo cheap that its 95% plastic, the looks are soo UNSPORTY, that it looks like a 2001 car, and finally, the price..its more expensive than the previous one....so what the "UPGRADE"????

  • @ChrisBanda
    @ChrisBanda 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not quite sure what happened to Honda's edgy and some what sporty styling....it appears they are now producing more conservative styles, more in the vain of Toyota. That current Accord was badly designed, I think they need to go back to drawing board and let whoever was designing these cars in the early 2000s keep doing it.

  • @Jabid21
    @Jabid21 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most cars these days are becoming fugly in the name of fuel efficiency. They are supposedly designing in an 'aerodynamic' (i'll call it eggshell) shape with headlights pulled all the way to the front door and belt line at 45 degrees. If they want fuel economy, make some diesel models. Hybrids aren't the best solution. Exaggerated a little bit about the belt line though :p

    @rforracing yes but then you have to factor in refinement and in that the hondas win. and will that hyundai be running at 200,000 miles. the answer is no. i hate when people say hyundai/kia is as good a honda. on reliabilty and resale value honday wins. take a toyota listen to the public about problems and things people dont like take out some boring and you get honda

    @2115 well i worked at ford and i can personally tell you the mustang does not reach those numbers.The secret key word automakers use is,can get "UP TO" 40 mpg.Take for example the fiesta.the comercial says "UP TO" 40 mpg.they dont say it gets 40 mpg but it can get "up to" 40mpg.dont be fooled by the trick words. "up to" and "will" are two diffrient things.

    I hope they come up with an SIR, because this is boring. This is not a high performance CIVIC and Honda must be ran by people who don't listen to what people want anymore. A sporting CIVIC needs to rev at least 8000rpm. People need to let Honda know that their not impressed, and we won't buy this generic crap until they get back in the game.

    the initial concept sketch looked great, the preproduction concept si coupe okay, preduction garbage. an si with a redline the same as the base? WTF are they thinking? "more grown up", more like boring. same mistake as the 7th gen. 6th and 8th gens had it right. why not stick to winning ideas like that Honda?

    just got uglier. Reminds me recently Nissan said something about "costumers looking for subcompact look for sporty feel rather than style" .....you are freakin kidding me. One time i went to Nissan to check the GT-R and the guy tried to convince me to buy a Versa....lololol not even in his dreams would that happen.

    Not what I was expecting at all from Honda. Both Honda and Toyota continue to make these bland looking cars. Hyundai and Kia have stepped up big time with everything. Honda a reputation isn't going to get it now. Hyundai is slowing inching up there with both Toyota and Honda in terms of reliability. The new Civic kind of resembles the new Hyundai Elantra from the front.

    @Hostilenemy the car is fine mate. it's the review that is messed up. don't wanna be a smartass here but with this register the guy should be reviewing wines not cars. have you ever seen any news presenters speaking like this? come on. it's function is to be informative and factual not fancy and semi-poetic. listen to him again and say i'm ignorant.

    I looks outdated already. They're also ruining the HF name plate using it for a fuel economy package over the awesome Lancia Integrale HF!

    @JackPughPugh you shouldn't. it'll fuck up your transmission, and the suspension set-up probably won't handle it. don't even get me started on cooling system and tires/brakes. you're better off selling it and getting an si straight off (not the EP3, but the FA5)

    Does anybody else see the rear of a Toyota Camry? Seriously Honda?! Im at a time when I want to buy a new car, but most new cars nowadays look crappy. Look at the Acura TL for example. Complete poo. And what are the Honda Accord sedans doing without HID headlights?

    @factionxvt408x Yeah it has more torque, which means you dont have to go to the stratosphere to feel the pull, which means faster acceleration, better response, more than any 4 horses or 20 horses can offer. In other words more fun to drive and a more reliable engine, as if it wasn't rock solid already.

    I always thought the 9th gen. Civics would look better. Nope, not really. They look a little bigger, and it could be an illusion, but the ride height seems like it has been raised a bit from the 8th gen. Sorry Honda, I'll stick with my 2010 Civic Coupe, thank you. :)

    I know 16 year olds don't have that kind of money laying around. Thats why I said 16 year olds CAN'T afford them.
    Only a teenager wouldn't be able to afford a new Civic. Either that or someone who made shitty life choices and has a lifetime career at McDonalds. lol
