Outside of a denim competition, i don't think there is any 'cheating' when it comes to fades. Wear them how you want--they're your jeans. I'll play devil's advocate for the sake of conversation and debate though and say that statch can have adverse effects on the fabric. I also think, again just my opinion, that starching takes some of the joy out of the indigo fade journey in the way it seems to suck the indigo out of the fabric. Doing that to some of the higher-end stuff (samurai's or ONI for example) is unfortunate. I enjoy you are coming up with topics that ar enot the same as other raw denim channels!!

Very fair point! And thank you so much, I actually very much so enjoy talking about new and different topics most denim channels won’t discuss, even if it’s controversial, or if I end up being “wrong” in the end. We’re all always learning, and I love learning from the comments section when I post a video and am exposed to something new by one of you guys! 😀 agree with you that it can have some adverse effects, but one can say not out of the ordinary of regular clothing routine as people have been applying starch to clothing for years. Also yes, totally agreed when it comes to the denim competition, it’s a no go. I’d say this trick works better for someone who doesn’t necessarily labor often for work, more so a denimhead who works in an office setting like myself, but wants to create unique and interesting wear marks. It’s a very “pros and cons” and subjective situation. 😭😭 But that’s what makes these so much fun 😈

One thing you said that really spoke to me is maybe to discourage anyone doing this on high end goods unless they really want to, I agree with that. I mean I haven’t personally had anything negative happen with the jeans I’ve done this on, but you know, I don’t want to be the reason something happens to someones jeans 😭 I wish I would have put that in the video in retrospect 😓

We use to do this to our Lee and Calvin Klein jeans back in the 80's in high school. Forgot all about this. Don't think I'll be doing it again though. Good tip though, it does work.

appreciate you telling people this. using this method takes the fear out of washing the denim for anyone that is not in competition. those rules really are rules for a comp and not really something that makes a lot of sense.

there was a lot of story behind the fades. natural gives more deep and contrast. just go and buy secondhand with complete fades or the new one with fades from fabric if u want faster.

It’s a good way as well , you can also use the liquid starch and add it to the last rinse

I think this is Good and cheap way of helping your jeans to fade I've been doing this to my 501s for months and I see the fades coming out nicely look guys in Japan are gluing the inside of there jeans too achieve the same results so it's a great idea and I hand wash every 2 months or so and the starch comes straight out then you start again yer good idea keep up the good work

i'm weird about this only because i feel like im creating more of a barrier between the indigo with the starch on top. i did this so i'm team starch... but i think i got in my own head maybe lol.

  • @sf2explus184
    @sf2explus184 ปีที่แล้ว +5

i dn't even think this is cheating at all since after wash denim loses the crispness as most starch comes out after second wash so you just have to add starch for the crispness and not to mention have a clean pair of denim.

@@unaffiliated_x9279 it actually did. I have only done it once because I was worried how my jeans would react to that, in the long run. So far it works fairly well.

On these SG6109 should I order my reg size 34 waist. In IH 555 I wear 34. An PBJ I wear 33 waist. So I’m guessing in SG6109 I should get 34 waist an just not let them hit any water for while. Kind of spooked that they are unsanfordized they might shrink to much.

I wer APC and wear them for more than a year unwashed, and after only soak from time to time. I do the experiment: more they are unwashed the better for the fading. There is no comparison

Just wondering how much starch do you add each time and how long is it between a phase of you readding it? I startched my jeans 2 days ago and they’re starting to soften up a bit too much.

This technique works really well for me. But be careful with spray starch around the knees. I’ve noticed that wetting the knees with starch while wearing the jeans leads to knee bags and leg twist.

Why not just use sand paper at this point? You do whatever you want, but you’re clearly creating artificial fades.

Awful advice. I did that to my first two pairs of raw jeans, xx501 and weird guy Nfs.... ended with garbage unaturall combs and whisks...
Please dont follow this guys advice!
Go natural, gently hand wash them with minor shaking and you will be fine
