I have a theory about Season 9 and the storyline. It's a bit long tho :D Part 1: The Unvaulting During the Unvaulting section of the Vaultcano event, we went into an alieny-like portal that lead to the same dimension we got teleported into upon the Cube's destruction. This time around, instead of floating around in the void, we got teleported into the Vault, and we got to "vote" on which of the six vaulted items we wanted back into the game. Though what people didn't tend to notice was the desk at the end, which showed a pushed out chair, the desk, a radio playing the old lobby music, and a futuristic helmet. People are theorizing that this helmet belongs to the Gatekeeper/Vaultkeeper, and that he was on break when we went into the Vault. I wish to add to this. The Unvaulting event was, in fact, a smash-and-grab robbery while the Vaultkeeper was out. With how durable the Vault's monoliths are, we only had time to smash open the Drum Gun's case before the Vaultkeeper came back and activated the security measures, lowering the other 5 monoliths and sending us back out. The runes we had to activate to open the Gateway was an automated system meant for the Vaultkeeper to do when he came back from whatever he was doing. During the Cube event, the reason we were floating through the Nexus was because the Cube's explosion was an unstable version of the Gateway's teleportation. But, what's that big shady orb in the distance? Part 2: The Vaultkeeper, Enforcer, and Season 9 So, the Cube sent us to the space up high in the Nexus and the Gateway teleported us to the Vault. Though, we aren't done with the Vault just yet. There's still the big, spacey orb in the middle. It has the same sparkly stuff we saw in the Nexus. I have reason to believe that this is the Vault's power source, and that the Cube is a big raw chunk of the stuff. We'll get back to this later, though. With the new Season 9 teaser, we got a weird robot-looking guy in a cloak with the caption "The future is unknown.". This, combined with the Vaultkeeper's mask and the whole future thing going on leads me to believe that the Vault, Nexus, and the entire dimension within it is a dimension outside of time. The Vault is a stabilized space within the Nexus, and the weird void the Cube sent us to was the Nexus Plains, with creatures like the Rift Butterfly living in it. The Nexus itself has numerous deposits of a purple superfuel that the Nexus People use to power their technology. The Hop Rocks are what we call this superfuel and the Cube is an unstable form of it that somehow gained sentience. The Gateway and its runes are powered by the superfuel. They are not godlike beings, but rather an advanced civilization from the future looking down upon us. They take whatever items they deemed too powerful or too useless and seal them away into the Vault. The giant orb in the Vault counts as a power source, a security system (the orb began to emit huge beams and rays when we were floating back out), and a way to see into our world. Dream and Luminos are civilians from the Nexus. This, in turn, leads me to believe that the Visitor and Enforcer from Seasons 4 and 5 are also from the Nexus. The Enforcers are the low-ranking officers of the Nexus, the "Time Police". The Visitor is a civilian turned most wanted criminal of the Nexus, and had sent himself in an escape pod out of the Nexus and into our world, in the past. His pod collided with numerous space rocks, and turned into the meteor that crashed into Dusty Depot. His pod corrupted some of the rocks into Hop Rocks. Upon his break out, he scanned the island and found his ticket out and off the island: the rocket being used for the Carbide VS. Omega movie. Using his hyper advanced technology and the hop rocks, he managed to turn the prop rocket into a working rocket capable of quantum tunneling. He activated it and broke out, leaving our world, ending up somewhere, somewhen. He had to pass the Nexus first, which is how we heard the rocket sirens during our first trip into it, along with noises from his rocket. The result was a giant crack in space-time, which over the course of the rest of S4 and S5, grew then began to shrink. The Rifts, when entered, try to send you up to the Nexus, but with how unstable and small they are, they only send you up high into the sky. The Enforcers, having picked up traces of unstable space time and their own fuel being used somewhere else, go investigate the scene. They neutralize the Crack on the spot, causing it to spew out the rest of the energy left in it, forming the Cube. It is unknown how the Crack gained sentience. Maybe the Visitor died upon breaking through dimensions, and his consciousness got stored within the Crack. It immediately began attempting to destroy itself by leaving runes behind to let charge, get itself in the air via going into the water directly above the portal into the realm it came from, gaining energy from the powered up runes, and overloaded itself. The Gateway opened up, letting Loot Lake's water spiral into it. The Cube deposited its left over energy into the Vault so it wouldn't fall into our hands again, and blew itself up. The raw energy caused by this explosion accidentally transported us into the Nexus for a brief period before spewing us out. After the Vault incident, these beings are certainly not going to be happy with us, and will be coming to us to sort things out. So, case in point, the Visitor, Enforcer, Cube, Rifts, and the Vault are all from the same existing dimension. In Season 9, we'll be able to see more from the Nexus, the beings that reside in it, and hopefully visit it once more
