I am always amazed at the effect large fortunes have on people. For me it would be a tool not only to aid my “needs” but to assist others.
Same for me. It would be great to have financial security, but then to do things for the others. I recently learned the phrase "the gift of giving". Even in a small way now it's a joy to do something for others. I know of people who don't have enough money to pay for medicine and rent and groceries at the same time or who need to get out of a bad housing situation. What a pleasure it would be to make their lives better.
Some people like to pay some like to own most don't care .so you have high value fortunes and working majority people and that's it life.:)
The whole house was beautiful with its terra cotta and openings to terraces! The whole place had a light and airy look to it! Sounds like they couldn't wait to tear it down!
It was seriously damaged by a hurricane in 1938, which supposedly led to its demolition.,
In some photo's Black Point reminds me of Norma Desmond's mansion in "Sunset Boulevard". (Actually, the Jenkins-Getty house on Los Angeles' Wilshire Blvd. used in that film as well as in "Rebel Without a Cause")

That breakfast room dropped my jaw. I'm an architect and this may be one of the most beautiful houses I've ever seen.
I would be happy just to live in the play house .

I remember reading that he really didn't exactly squander the bulk of his fortune, but broke the trust set up by his father so that Henry III could be excluded. Much of the money then went to the government as taxes. There is also some question of the middle name: sometimes Huttleston and sometimes Huddleston. He (and his father) were descended from 3 Mayflower passangers. Excellent video. I would love to see a video about his father's mansion in Fairhaven, MA (shown in this video), but this is one of those mansions where I have never been able to find any interior photos.

All those wonderful things and elements put together then taken apart after such a short time. And to make it worse, this has happened over and over. -- I remember reading about Millicent Rogers in a books called "The Power of Style" in which she and other influential women were written about. Very interesting reading. I look forward to the upcoming video about her.

This may be my favorite house yet!!
I've always thought of this house as one of the most beautiful & intelligently designed and scaled houses of its era. The entryway with those windows inset with medieval stained glass panels as accents must have been stunning. The way each space varies from the next, without repetition.or ostentation. Fresh and usually pure and simple. All of the photos of the house were taken immediately after construction, in 1915; there must be more somewhere. I wonder what became of the wall decorations in the loggia and who made them. Many thanks for this very well made video.

That house looks like something out of a really bad nightmare.
No wonder Frank Lloyd Wright called Interior Decorators "Inferior Desiccators", the clutter and lost in the space items ...

What a shame this beauty was torn down for a neighborhood. As time passes more homes and mansions will be torn down for section 8 housing projects.

Another story of a good for nothing rich kid. I can understand wanting to leave something for your children, but that much wealth is just too much for one person.
