Breathtaking,,,how I long for the days that I was young enuf to backpack,,too old now and the body doesn’t want to do what I ask it to, so I live vicariously thru you and others to bring me out in the world to see our beautiful country. Thank you again. 😃

Glad for the newest generation of gear, which is far and away superior to what I used in the 70's, 80's on long wilderness trips. Lighter is better most of the time. This is such a beautiful area of the SW. Thanks for taking us along.
You're never too old Debra. You simply take a little longer, and hike in fewer steps now is all. Even if it takes you hours to hike in a half a mile, that's ok.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism ,,,I just started hiking short amounts of time, and fell in love with it,,thank you for the words of encouragement ‼️ I didn’t know what I was missing.
Petroglyphs in canyon country remind me that land is timeless and how short our moments to enjoy it are. The combination of the music and scenes in this episode are just stunning. But I find myself saying that each episode. Thank your for sharing your talent to convey the magnificent places you visit.
Cat, as stunning as your photography is, i could close my eyes and this would still be an amazing journey. Thank you for picking up the sound of the trails and the added music which compliments the environment you experience. The joy of hiking!
One thing I’ve noticed about your videos is that you seldom film holding the camera as you hike. Your videography and photography stands out from the rest. It’s always stunning!! Thank you for all the hard work you do walking back and forth so much to provide these amazing videos. It is appreciated!!!
Catherine, carry a few coffee filters and elastic bands. filter the muddy water through the coffee filter first, then filter as normal. Good luck with the new gear!
I use whirlpak stand up water bags and a clean cotton rope, if there's time. Dirty water in one stand up bag, clean bag a little lower but next to it, with a hank of clean cotton rope dangling from one to the other. Surprisingly clear clean water wicks into the bag and is ready to be filtered or boiled.
@@NothingToNoOneInParticular A old Army technique from my recon days, charcoal from a camp fire stuffed into a sock then filter the suspect water through that... Kinda last resort stuff, but could be good to know. Cheers from Anacortes

Wow ! I feel very privileged to have found your channel seeing all this beauty threw your eyes is spectacular !! again Thank you Catherine it is always a joy to watch our great Nation and its views with you. Good luck with the new equipment !!
Another lovely video of a place rich in natural beauty and architectural treasure as witnessed by the petroglyphs you pointed out. My wife and I have hiked this trail albeit starting about 10 minutes from the Lower Calf Creek trail which we also hiked. We love the Grand Staircase Escalante, our first camping experience in Utah. We have lived in northern Utah since 2014 after being overseas for 22 years as active duty Air Force (retired now) and immediately fell in love with these trails all over Utah and the west. I have been a photographer for over 16 years and have many awards from my photography in Europe and America. But the reason I'm commenting is because I need your help on something very near and dear to us both. Your love of these places is obvious and shines in every video. You have 55k of people (like me) who watch all of your videos and discover new places to visit and enjoy. A blessing for people who love to see and be in nature BUT a curse for the trails themselves. In our travels what I'm noticing especially over the last 2 years is the amount of destruction on these trails we all love. Trash, spray paint on rocks, people scribbling on petroglyphs, dog poop left behind, plastic bags from lunch left behind and it goes on and on. It is disheartening frankly as more and more people enter nature that the level of destructing continues to rise. Edward Abby and Ansel Adams both expressed their fear that nature would be "loved to death". In October my wife and I, along with another couple hiked the Narrows of Zion for the first time. My God. We were shocked by the amount of writing on the Narrow walls :( a federal offense by the way. I literally intervened to stop teenagers from writing on the walls and so did my friend on the way back. The next day we visited slot canyons on the other side, RUINED, from graffiti. I believe, whether it is because people are escaping the prison of COVID and hitting the trails or whether people watching TH-cam channels like yours or a combination of both, our trails are in serious trouble. With so many people following you, I believe you are in a unique position to do something about this. With the audience you reach, I think you have the power, and if I'm being frank, the responsibility to shape the narrative and speak out to this vast audience and remind people of their obligation to honor these cathedrals of nature by NOT desecrating these sacred places, to not ruin them in self absorbed acts of narcissistic behavior. The truth of the matter is most people do respect nature but it takes just one person performing one act to ruin it for us all. A couple of weeks ago my wife and I, along with the same friends who joined us in Zion visited the Valley of Fire. There is an iconic baby arch we showed them (hard to find) and they loved it. They took their adult children back a week later and guess what....DESTROYED. Seeing someone with your following on trails we have hiked is alarming and the destruction of such places is a five alarm fire. Let me be clear, I am not blaming you because I know you care. We need people like you who show these places to use your power to preserve and protect nature. Months ago Scenic Utah, an organization dedicated to preserving nature, reached out to me for help to fight a law that would have allowed billboards to scar the land. They asked for the use of my images and I gladly agreed. And as they have reached out to me, I'm reaching out to you for your help. We NEED your voice in the fight to preserve our lakes, streams, and trails. What I'm asking is that you use your TH-cam channel to speak out on what is being done to our wilderness and to remind everyone not to participate in this destruction and speak out when they see people doing harm to nature.
Wow! Great job. I’m retired and have been watching you for awhile. I don’t know how you do it but I haven’t seen 90% of the places you go. That gigantic rock overhang at the end of the video was spectacular. Makes you wonder how many millions of years it took to shape those canyons and formations.

What a lovely little hike! I love Escalante; it’s one of my very favorite places, maybe even my most favorite, in Utah. I know that if I had been with you, I would complain, complain, and complain some more about walking with wet feet. Not that complaining helps anything but I know me and I wouldn’t be able to stop myself. I hate walking in wet foot gear so kudos to you for not whining about it! Stay safe and happy adventures Catherine! 🍀🍀🍀🙋🏻♀️
Thank you for your stories, your photography and for sharing your adventures. As a child I was pulled across the country every summer, camping in an popup trailer with four kids, jars of melted peanut butter and a cooler full of cream sodas. The wanderlust was set in my dna, and watching your videos is like going home. After many years of work, my husband and I are about to hit the road in our f150 & travel trailer. I'm so excited to launch and start spending my time with trees, rocks and animals. You have really provided me with so many ideas, as well as helped to bridged the gap while we waited for our window to open. Thanks again!
I hiked 1050 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail in an older-style Nemo Hornet 2P in 2017 and 2019. I loved it and am willing to go out again to finish the PCT with it in 2022.
Good-morning Catherine, Loved your video! Beautiful scenery and the exciting finds of the pictographs made your journey very special. Sweet new backpacking gear, hope they work out great for you. God bless you.
Congratulations on the new equipment, Catherine. 👍. Saying goodbye to equipment used over many years and all the memories it helped create is a bittersweet time. And buying new stuff is scary....and expensive. I will be curious if the hipbelt issue on the pack gets resolved, because the one thing that any trail promises is dirt and dust. 😊. Thank you again for such amazing video work. 🙏🏼. The scale of those rocks is unimaginable. When you first showed the overhang with the petroglyphs, I thought, OK...that is cool. But then you showed you walking inside and I was blown away at the immensity of it. Wow. So, so much bigger than I first thought. I can see why that area is so popular. It takes incredible skill and patience on your part to be able t film without other people in the frame. ☺️ well done. 👍. Safe travels to your next destination.
A thing I've learned from years of desert camping is to avoid tents with mesh extending down to the level of the 'bathtub' floor. Everything gets coated in sand and grit when the wind kicks up. I've liked using the Big Agnes Copper Spur series of tents for this reason, as the lower parts of the side walls are solid fabric, and only the upper parts are mesh. Also makes them better for colder weather use. Thanks for your beautifully made videos :)
Hi Catherine😊😊, great to see the new gear and such a beautiful hike along the Escalante River. Nice campsite too. I enjoyed the video. Looking forward to the next adventure😊😊.
Once again your camera position on entering the petroglyph area was awesome. It just made me catch my breath. As a father of two daughters your daring (solo camping and hiking) seems to always come to mind. I say a quiet prayer for your continued safety. I wish no one would ever have to even think about that issue - but, sadly, these are different times. Thanks for sharing your gifts and talents. Sunday mornings are such a treat! Can't wait until next Sunday already!
If you have issues with your pack, ULA will take care of you. Let the water settle for a while then only filter the top portion......keeps your filter clean longer. The Sawyer Squeeze can be back flushed. One of the redeeming qualities of the ULA pack IS the hip belt which pulls forward to tighten as it should. Thanks for sharing.
That was definitely worth the wait, Catherine. Epic hike in such beautiful country. Your skills in catching the beauty of Escalante is amazing; and I'm positive you hiked quite a bit more than the five or ten miles in retrieving your camera. Hopefully your buckle issue has been resolved. ULA is pretty good about service to their customers. I have the ULA OHM and what issues I had the company resolved them. NEMO tents are awesome...great choice.
Great edited videos. the scenes, the music and everything else well put together. You're a good editor, keep up the good work. They are addictive to watch because they are so relaxing and the nature just magnifies everything. Thanks Katy. Stay safe and keep enjoying life:) Much love.
It's not just the heat thats rough in these areas, the deer flies are notoriously tormenting. Suggestions: 1- an air pump, 2- a water canteen on each hip 😉
Hi cat thanks for taking us along on an overnighter great views, don’t you just love new stuff 😂😂😂😎😎😎 by the way I’m not sure if it was my iPad or what but some of your videos were a little blurry just to let you know. That overhang was really cool reminded me of red wall cavern down the Grand Canyon and yeah that was a muddy water 😝 ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
Catherine... Good morning beautiful. You always make me smile. New gear is always good. I myself have used the same pack, tent and sleeping bag for nearly twenty five years now. But they are all still performing like new. Although I don't backpack like I did when I was a younger man. Especially now that I've bought myself an RV. My comfort level has certainly changed with age. Like you say. Setting up camp is so easy when all you have to do is find a spot to park and set the chairs and table out. I'm on my way to the U/P this morning. I've been driving since 3:30 this morning. Just taking a break for breakfast and coffee and to watch my favorite lady on TH-cam. I hope to do several day hikes. Plus I brought my dive gear as well. I can't be this close to Lake Superior without getting wet a couple of times. The wreck diving here is unparalleled. Yes I know the water will still be freaking cold. That's why I have a drysuit. How much longer are you going to be in Utah?? I kind of thought you would be heading farther north by now. What else do you have planned for yourself this year?? Canada?? Have a great day sweetheart. Safe travels and have fun always. Randy in Des Moines. 👍❤✌ P.S... have you thought about doing another livestream?? I certainly would enjoy that.
Thank you Randy. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be in Utah. Still waiting for it to warm up further north before heading up. This year I am just going with the flow. I'm not sure Canada will open up. You are the second person who has mentioned a livestream in two days. Maybe it's time for another one. Enjoy your trip!! Sounds like a fun one.
that place is stunning. Thank you for taking the time to film your pleasure and sharing it with the world. I know it's not easy and is a lot of effort. I have worked on film crews in the past so l know. Those rock drawings are a reminder of man's brief time in the sun.
Very beautiful place. Shame that clear water , you showed near the end, wasn't available at the campsite, which by the way was a very cool camping spot. You have the best life.
Cat blessings to you on your new journeys with great equipment I hope things work out better for you with all your great equipment thank you again for taking the time to share with everyone again blessings to you my friend
The scenery was amazing and your camera works so good I thought I was watching a movie. Good luck with your new gear and you are an inspiration to other explorers. Stay safe and be well. I always look forward to your videos.
What a beautiful area... My brother and nephew, explored the area, and hiked Death Hollow... the slot canyon is one of the longest, and took some effort. They warned me of the many stagnant pools, and how utterly filthy and gross they felt having gone the distance. They had a shuttle on the other end as a thru hike. You have the heart of a true adventurer Catherine. And your attitude, from where I sit, is intrepid and indomitable. My hat is off to you. Have fun, and thank you for your spirit and creative talents. Your videos are awesome.
Wow what a stunning place Catherine.. would love to go there someday. Excellent job on the video and yes wind always makes tough in terms of camping but also in editing. You did a fabulous job on this one!
Catherine, I really enjoy the music you pair with the footage. I used to be an avid hiker, however, because of a serious motorcycle accident I can no longer hike in the Pacific Northwest. Because of your channel I can almost imagine being there. I appreciate that you have this channel. Thank you
Another great hike with the California dream. Catherine you do a wonderful presentations. As I work on my horse farm. All I see are trees. So your video is an escape for me. I live in a world of constant unrelenting pain. Your video helps me immensely
This video brought back some great memories Catherine! You certainly captured some fantastic shots on this trip. Glad you were able to get some new equipment and substantially reduce your base weight. Don't think you'll miss those three pounds. Really enjoyed this video.
Great attitude dealing with problems when enjoying raw nature, and not being annoyed and complaining. Reminds me of my 1st Mt. Whitney hike when I ran out of fuel for my stove after the 1st warm coffee! So I “tried” to enjoy cold cups of tea and cold soaked rehydrated food for couple days😋. Keep up with your positivity in life.

Happy Sunday Miss Cat!!! Good luck with new gear!!! Be safe!!!

P.S... have you thought about doing another livestream?? I certainly would enjoy that.
Thank you Randy. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be in Utah. Still waiting for it to warm up further north before heading up. This year I am just going with the flow. I'm not sure Canada will open up. You are the second person who has mentioned a livestream in two days. Maybe it's time for another one. Enjoy your trip!! Sounds like a fun one.
Good morning Rocks look beautiful on your walk hope you enjoy new tent
that place is stunning. Thank you for taking the time to film your pleasure and sharing it with the world. I know it's not easy and is a lot of effort. I have worked on film crews in the past so l know. Those rock drawings are a reminder of man's brief time in the sun.
Thank you so much Arthur!
A beautiful place !!! You are blessed with an eye for detail that even this novice can see. Thanks again for the journey.
Beautiful views! Wow love it ,thank u!
I enjoyed the rock art...thanks for sharing.
Beautiful journey!
As always stunning scenery and filming, it is amazing where sand will find its way into thank you for sharing stay safe cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
I had a ULA pack (P2) for years....did all of my big trips (NZ and Yosemite) with it, good pack.
Thank you for sharing nature and your life with me. I walk along with you in my mind and have a wonderful time.
Just beautiful, Catherine, Thank you for this snippet of calm & serenity. Have safe travels ! Jill, Nashville TN
Beautiful scenery, I'll be adventuring through the Escalante in June, very excited.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for the videos. You provide views that most cannot either afford to go to or cannot do because of health.
Beautiful rock formation and stunning scenery in the early spring. Your new Nemo tent is definitely better. Thanks Catherine.
The photography just gets better and better!
Thank you so much Evelyn!
Another Sunday morning with Cat. My daughter and I watched this video together. We both commented on your amazing talent for making great videos. 😀
Thank you Matt and please thank your daughter for me! :)
The scenery was amazing and your camera works so good I thought I was watching a movie. Good luck with your new gear and you are an inspiration to other explorers. Stay safe and be well. I always look forward to your videos.
Thanks so much!
Love this landscape. Dipped our toe in the water here last summer. Much more hiking to experience on a return trip.
Good Morning. It's Sunday and New video to watch. Amazing views beautiful canyons. 😁
Thank you so much Rand!
Cat your soul becoming one with nature. You and your video beautiful as always.
Wow what a stunning place Catherine.. would love to go there someday. Excellent job on the video and yes wind always makes tough in terms of camping but also in editing. You did a fabulous job on this one!
Thanks so much Mike! 😊
Catherine, I really enjoy the music you pair with the footage. I used to be an avid hiker, however, because of a serious motorcycle accident I can no longer hike in the Pacific Northwest. Because of your channel I can almost imagine being there. I appreciate that you have this channel. Thank you
there you are c: wonderful Sundays!! much clearer weather, u have a gift for finding the hidden gems, and a gift for the perfect views,
Your videos always showcase the raw beauty and peacefulness of wherever you happen to be. Thank you.
Another great hike with the California dream.
Catherine you do a wonderful presentations.
As I work on my horse farm. All I see are trees. So your video is an escape for me.
I live in a world of constant unrelenting pain.
Your video helps me immensely
🙏🙏🙏
This video brought back some great memories Catherine! You certainly captured some fantastic shots on this trip. Glad you were able to get some new equipment and substantially reduce your base weight. Don't think you'll miss those three pounds. Really enjoyed this video.
Thank you Bryan. No...I won’t miss the extra weight.
What a beautiful hike. Thanks, Catherine.
That Sony 6400 and your eye take great vivid photography and video. Love the throwback leg stripes. Happy trails.
