You guys need to watch Spaced, short run series with Simon Pegg, it's the series that pretty much started the idea of the Cornetto trilogy, especially Shawn of the Dead. It's also made by Edgar Wright.
It's a comedy series that centers on Pegg and Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) two strangers who move in together in a flat having to pretend that they're married, and they share these blocks of flats with other slightly weird tenants, then there's Nick Frost, who plays Pegg's best mate as always. It's quirky, funny and brilliant.

Just a bit of context for non-Brits regarding the pubs all looking the same - until about the late 90's, pubs were all quite unique and set in their ways. You had regulars who stuck to their local pubs and never really went anywhere new. Each pub has its own thing going on and had been like that for decades or even centuries. They were owned by a "landlord" who was just a guy running a private business. Come the last couple of decades, things have become highly gentrified and uniform, especially as you have large companies buying up pubs and making them homogenous - franchises essentially, which was never really done before on a large scale. The old wallpaper was replaced with a specific colour of paint, the nasty old carpets were replaced with wooden floors. That's where the joke about identical pubs in the movie come in - once they become franchised, the decor, drinks etc would have been mandated to be a certain way to match the company's specs. Pubs in the early 90's when these guys did their pub crawl would have most definitely been updated in this way by the time the movie is set. More welcoming to a wider variety of clientele but with a cost to its individuality.

Keep a lookout for the final scene of the film, a Cornetto wrapper blows past in a breeze, briefly catching on a wire fence...
If you have NOT seen the film - Please DON'T READ FURTHER - SPOILERS !!!
Each film in the trilogy is connected to a specific Cornetto Ice Cream flavour and appear in each film. 'Shaun of the Dead' features a STRAWBERRY flavoured Cornetto, which signifies the film's bloody and gory elements. 'Hot Fuzz' includes the BLUE 'original' Cornetto, to signify the police element to the film and 'The World's End' features the GREEN MINT chocolate chip flavour (though shown only by a wrapper caught in the wind) representing "little green men" and science fiction.

The Lord Chamberlain, perhaps? The 'LC of the Household' is the most senior officer of the Royal Household of the United Kingdom. 'They' (the LC) is appointed by agreement between the sovereign and the prime minister. They are in charge of supervising the departments which support and provide advice to the UK Sovereign, while also acting as the main communication channel between the Sovereign and the House of Lords. The 'office' organises all ceremonial activity such as garden parties, state visits, royal weddings, and the State Opening of Parliament. They'also handle the Royal Mews and Royal Travel, as well as the ceremony around the awarding of honours. The LC is also chairman of the committee that recommends for the sovereign’s consideration applications for the grant of the royal warrants of appointment for the supply of goods. One of the duties for which the LC was best known was the licensing of London theatres and the censorship of stage plays throughout the UK. This position dates back to the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, when the lord chamberlain was in charge of all court entertainments and took the players under his personal protection.

Gary talking about bottling up past trauma leading to inadequate coping strategies it shows that he really has taken what he learning in therapy to heart, he said what he'd learning unironicly. He really had tried to get better in the program and it didn't work for him so he had to find his own way. The Golden Mile was Gary's own 12 steps, his Hail Mary attempt to save himself.

    • @ChocolatierRob

It was his Hail Mary attempt to _kill_ himself. Get into his dress uniform, have one last wild night, go out on a high. He had no intention of leaving that town alive, he didn’t even bring any luggage, because he wouldn’t have needed any. Getting that last pint would have been the last thing he intended to do. Andy stopped him because he understood that Gary was destroying himself even if it wasn’t until he saw Gary’s bandaged wrists that he realised just what he fully intended.

Also known as ONE of Shakespeare's "problem plays" - very much like THIS film; Thus the first three acts in the 'play' are filled with intense psychological drama (build-up, getting the 'gang' together and then visiting the 'pubs'), while the last two acts are comic and supply a happy ending (NO spoilers here!). I love this so much & I really hope you enjoyed this trio & i have loved watching it with you so far. Now reason i say this. Is because i am from United kingdom & love this movie. Really touched my soul & i know it by heart. Still always finding new things out about it, 3 years later, But this video of a first time reaction sheds light & i have 26 mins to go still. Wish me luck everyone :) Again Thank You so much for cheering a Yorkshire lass up boys, so far a total belter. Ps Should review & Give us your great wisdom of Run Fat Boy Run! That would truly brighten up my new year & id never ask for Anything again. Personally if you loved Shaun Of The Dead, You are going to love this one :) Peace out & Stay safe.

Really enjoyed watching this movie with you and hearing your comments. Oh, and it was Timothy Dalton in Hot Fuzz. But Pierce Brosnan in the world's end, just thought you'd like to know.😊😂❤ Of course, both actors share having played James Bond in the past.

I've watched all of them, incl PAUL. However, I was today old when I realised the Cornetto trilogy comprised of Conspiracy theories. ZOMBIES, CULTS, ALIENS. Sure PAUL..was definately about aliens But also its about the Government lying/keeping secrets/Area51.
I just enjoyed them so much so that I didn't see it. But when you break it down... yeah.

Specially this one, with the way the worlds been going the last 3/4 years, governments over the world making nonsense laws for nonsense reasons, when you question it, it’s either “that is irrelevant” or “it’s for the greater good”. And people say the simpsons predicted a lot

So the Trilogy has 2 James Bond’s in. Pierce in this and Tim ‘slasher of prices’ Dalton.
Would have been great to have had Connery in Shaun of the dead. Maybe as John the Landlord. 😉

Man, I envy you two. I had a best friend. We were like you. For 9 years we had a blast. Then he fell in love and married a girl from a VERY religious family, and I was history. LOL -- and I wasn't even the wild one. I didn't see my friend for 2 years. Then, out of the blue, he called and wanted me to come to their house. When I got there, he invited me in as far as his garage. He had a shoebox of stuff saved from his former life to give me -- paperbacks, a couple of crystal paperweights, a ring and a bolo tie with Kokopelli on it -- all things that his wife wouldn't have in their house because they were "Devil worship." I was really knocked-back by the whole thing. It really pissed me off. I tossed that box in the garbage at a Circle-K. On the way home, I wondered if their minister was over, exorcising their garage about then. Funny thing -- even though I'm "persona augratin"

For anyone who's seen "Day of the Triffids" (1962 version is all I know), certain parts of this movie remind of that. (Around 1 hour and 2 minutes is what I'm talking about). Ugh, wrong movie.. lol.. not day of the triffids, but "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" :D oopsie!

This film is the weakest of the 3 but its still enjoyable, as has already been explained the three cornetto's
    Strawberry- Zombie
    Original-Police
    Mint-Alien
There are a couple of other films that Frost and Pegg did together. If you havent seen it you need to watch 'Paul'.
Always love your reactions and how you have learnt british humour.
    Thankyou for all your content

One of my fav films of all time. Unfortunately I can relate.
12 pints isn’t anything that bad. Maybe be an English thing. Or a me thing? Lol
I once asked Simon Pegg jokingly on a live chat that I would like to do the golden mile. I think he took it as an insult and said to me that the whole idea of the film is bascially addiction is bad for you and it shouldn’t be glorified as so. I was just wanted to see where they shot the scenes. Albeit not a lot of it in the actual town it was shot in. I live in Northeast England every 15/20 mins away by car you will hear a totally different accent. Words and cultures. Going to see where they filmed this is one my bucket list and I’ll go one day. It’s around 7 hours drive. Very long for the UK unlike the US
Anyway. I just came across your channel today and watched you react to the the greats raid of all time.
I love watching Americans watching English stuff. Always seem to laugh at different things! Interesting really.
Sorry for waffling on (English term) love the channel and I will be subscribing and binging. Thanks guys!
